Naomi sat rigidly behind her mahogany desk, the plush leather chair offering little comfort. Fury simmered beneath her composed exterior as fragmented memories of the intrusion flooded her thoughts—the violation of privacy, the humiliation of being bare, the lingering feel of his invasive stare. Who was this audacious stranger who dared invade her sanctuary? And more troubling still, whose interests did he represent? Questions swirled relentlessly in her mind, each one sharpening her resolve to uncover the truth behind this brazen assault on her dignity.

As she exited her office, Naomi passed James’ glass-walled workspace. Through the transparent partition, she observed him engrossed in his monitor. A flicker of suspicion crossed her mind—could he have orchestrated the intrusion? Yet dismissing him outright proved difficult; his incompetence seemed too glaring for such a calculated act, though she refused to rule him out entirely.

As Naomi strode past her mother’s office, her gaze narrowed into a glare. Through the glass partition, she caught sight of Evelyn engaged in conversation on the phone. Curiosity gnawed at her—whose voice was on the other end of that call?

She resolved to confront Evelyn. With purposeful strides, Naomi pushed through the door. Startled by the sudden intrusion, Evelyn quickly ended her phone conversation. “I’ll call you back,” she murmured before turning to face her daughter with surprise. “Naomi?” she said as Naomi entered and settled into a seat directly opposite her. Naomi’s gaze locked onto Evelyn’s eyes, searching intently for any hint of deception or unease. Taken aback by her daughter’s intense scrutiny, Evelyn could only manage a stunned, “What?”

“It was you, wasn’t it?” Naomi charged, her accusation hanging heavy in the air. Evelyn’s eyebrows knitted together as she demanded, “What are you talking about?” With a venomous edge, Naomi retorted, “Oh, you’re so convincing, Mother—you ought to win an award.” Dismissive and curt, Evelyn replied, “I don’t have time for your theatrics, Naomi. I’m busy.”

Naomi spat back with venom, “You work for me, you make time.” Evelyn’s lips tightened in silent anger before she replied mockingly, “Okay, dear. What is it that I have done now?”

“If I discover your involvement,” Naomi hissed, her voice trembling with barely contained fury, “you will curse the day you brought me into this world—for I will fucking rip you to shreds.” Evelyn’s retort came swift and cold. “That sentiment took root long before today,” she replied, her words laced with bitter finality.

As Naomi stormed out of Evelyn’s office, she collided with Daryl. “Hey baby,” he greeted her warmly, though his expression faltered as he registered her furious glare. “Where were you last night?” she demanded, each word sharp and accusatory. Confusion flickered across Daryl’s face as he stammered an explanation. “I worked a little late last night and spent time at a friend’s after having some drinks—I’m sorry I didn’t mention it to you.”

Naomi held back from mentioning the intruder, right now she felt she couldn’t trust anyone.

Raw Couture: Naomi’s Office 10:00 AM

Naomi’s voice carried a dangerous edge as she recounted the events over the phone. “Someone was in my house last night—a figure cloaked in a balaclava, clutching a gun in their left hand.” On the other end, a male voice responded with cool professionalism. “How did they get past security?” Naomi paused, her mind racing. “Exactly,” she replied tersely. A flood of questions surged within her: her property was gated, monitored by round-the-clock guards—someone should have noticed an intrusion. Yet there had been no warning, no alarm raised against the shadow that had slipped unseen into her sanctuary.

“I need to determine what James and my mother are hiding...” she hesitated, her thoughts momentarily drifting to her husband. “Even Daryl—he wasn’t home last night, that he went out drinking and stayed with a friend,” she added, suspicion tingeing her voice.

“What about Damien?” he asked. Naomi scoffed dismissively, “My father? I seriously doubt he had anything to do with this.” After a brief pause, he countered, “Still—it never hurts to check all angles.” Naomi mulled over the suggestion before reluctantly agreeing, “Fine, but be discreet; I don’t want anyone catching on.” He assured her he would handle it carefully.

After ending the call, a soft knock echoed at the door. “Come in,” Naomi called out, her tone measured despite the turmoil beneath. Thomas stepped inside, his expression polite yet professional as he asked, “Is now a good time?” Naomi offered a hesitant smile before nodding assent. With practiced composure, Thomas settled into the chair opposite her desk, his posture reflecting his usual meticulous demeanor.

“I found some discrepancies in the company’s expenditure,” he announced as Naomi scrutinized his gaze, searching for any sign of duplicity. Thomas paused, his brow furrowing slightly with genuine concern. “Are you alright?” he asked, causing Naomi to recoil inwardly.

At that moment, Naomi’s composure shattered. She clapped a trembling hand over her mouth and nose as choked sobs wracked her body. Thomas stared in shock, his eyes widening as he leaned forward. “Naomi?” he whispered urgently, “What’s wrong?”

As she fought to regain control, her voice quivered with raw vulnerability. “Are you against me, Tom?” The question hung heavy in the air. He tilted his head, confusion etched on his face. “What do you mean?” Naomi pressed further, her words barely above a whisper. “Are you conspiring against me?” Tom swiftly shook his head, his tone firm and reassuring. “Absolutely not.” Sensing her distress, he leaned in, concern softening his features. “Did something happen?”

Naomi recounted the harrowing events of the previous night—how an intruder had invaded her home while she was undressed and defenseless, holding her at gunpoint. Thomas’s reaction was immediate; his eyes widened in disbelief as his jaw dropped. “What!” he exclaimed, his voice strained with incredulity.

Thomas’s concern was unmistakable as he leaned forward, his voice tight with worry. “Did he harm you?” he pressed urgently. Naomi gave a slight shake of her head, her gaze distant as she added, “I believe he only meant to frighten me. And Daryl wasn’t even home last night.”

“I don’t know who to trust, Tom,” she murmured, her body trembling uncontrollably. With a sudden edge in his tone, Thomas demanded, “You think I was capable of doing this?” Naomi immediately shook her head in protest. “No!” she insisted, her voice wavering as she clarified, “I’m just trying to figure it out.”

“I’m so sorry, Naomi. Is there anything I can do?” Thomas asked gently, his brow furrowed with concern. Naomi nodded, her voice steadying slightly as she replied, “I’m handling it right now—I’ve got someone looking into it.” Thomas leaned in, his curiosity piqued. “Who?” he pressed. Naomi hesitated before offering a vague response: “Someone who works for me.”

Naomi’s lips trembled faintly as she gathered the courage to ask, “Can I stay with you tonight?” Thomas inclined his head in agreement. “Of course,” he said, though his expression clouded with unease. “But wouldn’t Daryl suspect something?” he questioned carefully.

“He wasn’t there for me last night when I needed him,” Naomi spat, her voice dripping with venom. “I don’t even want to look at him,” she finished resolutely.

Just then, the shrill ring of the landline pierced the tense silence. Naomi snatched up the receiver. “Yes, what is it?” she demanded sharply. The receptionist’s voice crackled through the line apologetically. “I’m sorry ma’am,” she said, “but I have a Kiara Washington here asking to see you.” Naomi’s eyes flew wide with surprise. “Send her up,” she ordered abruptly, before slamming down the phone without waiting for confirmation.

“We’ll talk later Tom, I have that activist here,” Naomi stated briskly, watching Thomas’ eyebrows knit together in confusion. “Kiara?” he questioned. Naomi’s voice dripped with accusation as she snapped, “Oh, you just want to fuck her so bad don’t you.” Thomas raised his hands defensively and replied, “I’ll leave you to it.”

Naomi rose from her desk and exited her office just as Kiara emerged from the elevator. A polite smile graced Naomi’s lips as they exchanged a brief embrace. “It’s wonderful to see you, Kiara,” Naomi remarked warmly as Kiara returned the gesture with genuine affection. “I hope I haven’t intruded on anything important,” Kiara added considerately. Naomi brushed off the concern with a casual flick of her wrist, guiding her guest back toward the office with an air of practiced nonchalance.

Naomi and Kiara settled together on the plush office sofa, their bodies leaning in with comfortable familiarity. With genuine warmth, Naomi inquired about Kiara’s growing baby bump. “How’s little Nathan?” she asked softly. Kiara gently rested a hand on her swollen belly, smiling as she felt the restless kicks from within. “He’s doing wonderfully,” she shared, adding playfully, “He’s already trying to break free, kicking me constantly.” Naomi’s eyes crinkled with amusement as a low chuckle escaped her lips at the lively description.

“I wasn’t sure what name I would choose,” Kiara explained, resting a gentle hand on her round belly, “but I’ve decided on Nathan.” Naomi’s head bobbed in agreement as she offered an approving smile. “It’s a lovely name,” she affirmed warmly.

“When are you due?” Naomi asked, her tone softening with maternal interest. “A couple of months,” Kiara replied, shifting her weight to ease the pressure on her lower back. Naomi studied her friend’s glowing complexion and offered a playful smirk. “So what mischief keeps you busy aside from stirring up trouble?” she teased lightly. Kiara laughed, the sound warm and melodic. “I work as an accountant at a small law firm,” she explained, smoothing a hand over her bump. “The pay is good, and my boss is quite accommodating—especially since Nathan also worked there before.”

“Enough about me,” Kiara said, shifting her gaze to Naomi with playful curiosity. “What has the legendary Naomi Sinclair, CEO of Raw Couture, been up to lately?”

“Well, we have introduced some innovative designs set to debut,” Naomi remarked with a knowing smirk. “And rest assured, no animals suffered this time around.” She paused briefly before adding, “It truly is rather thrilling.” Kiara responded dryly, “Oh certainly, I can practically feel the exhilaration radiating from you.”

“What do you mean?” Naomi asked sharply. “How’s Thomas?” Kiara countered as Naomi regarded her with a puzzled expression. “How should I know?” Naomi retorted defensively. “You mean you two aren’t...?” Kiara trailed off suggestively, but Naomi cut in briskly, “There’s nothing going on between us, if that’s what you’re implying.”

Kiara smirked, “He’s kind of cute, if he’s not seeing someone then perhaps...” Naomi snapped, “Don’t you fucking dare, now that you’re single it doesn’t mean...” Naomi stopped short as Kiara’s eyes dipped with sudden sorrow. “I ... I didn’t mean it like that,” Naomi murmured softly.

A solitary tear escaped Kiara’s eye as she whispered, “I know what you meant.” She hesitated briefly before adding, “Words just flow from you without much thought doesn’t it?”

Kiara met Naomi’s gaze and declared, “You’re a spiteful person, Naomi; you possess so much power yet remain utterly clueless about wielding it properly.”

“Who helped you?” Naomi demanded sharply. “You did,” Kiara shot back, her voice laced with defiance, “after fighting me and causing me pain.” Naomi’s retort came swiftly, her words biting. “You slapped me first.” Undeterred, Kiara countered, “You hit the megaphone out of my hands.”

Naomi turned away abruptly, her lips pressed into a thin line as anger churned within her. She wheeled back toward Kiara, her voice sharp with accusation. “You put your baby in harm’s way,” she hissed, before adding with bitter finality, “It wasn’t my fault you got hurt.”

Kiara scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain. “No wonder your family conspires against you—you’re a vindictive bitch,” she spat out venomously. Naomi shot to her feet, finger jabbing toward the exit as fury contorted her features. “Get the fuck out of my building before I call security to drag your pregnant ass out of here,” she seethed.

Kiara rose to her feet, her voice sharp and accusatory. “You don’t deserve Thomas—he’s kind.” Naomi advanced menacingly, her eyes blazing as she snarled, “Don’t test me.” Kiara held her ground, defiantly shouting back, “Or what?”

That evening, as Thomas steered the car along the winding roads toward his apartment, he broke the heavy silence. “So you and Kiara are enemies again?” Naomi kept her gaze fixed on the passing streetlights outside the window, her voice flat with irritation. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

Thomas peered into the rearview mirror, his brow furrowing as he studied the vehicle trailing behind them. “What’s wrong?” Naomi asked, turning slightly in her seat. Thomas shook his head slowly. “Not sure—there’s a car that’s been following us for several blocks now.” Alarmed, Naomi twisted around to look back.

She retrieved her cell phone from her purse, fingers trembling slightly as she scrolled through her contacts. After selecting a number, she pressed the device to her ear and spoke urgently into the receiver. “Someone’s following us,” she reported, her voice tight with apprehension. A moment later, a male voice responded calmly from the other end. “I know,” he acknowledged. “I’m right behind them—they seem to be trying to figure out where you’re headed.”

“How are we going to lose them?” Naomi demanded, her voice edged with urgency. From the phone, the man’s calm suggestion cut through the tension. “Pull over.” Naomi frowned, uncertainty flickering across her face. Before she could question further, his firm command followed. “Do it!” Reluctantly conceding, Naomi turned to Thomas and ordered sharply, “Tom, pull over.” With a tense nod, Thomas steered the car toward the roadside.

The pursuing car halted behind them as the tension in Thomas’s vehicle escalated. Through the rear windshield, both he and Naomi watched warily, their eyes locked on the motionless silhouette of the trailing automobile.

Footsteps approached from behind, drawing nearer to the halted car. A shadowy figure materialized beside the vehicle’s window, tapping firmly against the glass before leaning forward to peer inside. Naomi and Thomas remained motionless, their gazes fixed intently on the unfolding scene.

Then the shadowy figure swiftly drew his weapon and fired three shots at point-blank range into the driver. Naomi and Thomas recoiled in shock, their bodies tensing as the attacker motioned for them to move. “Drive, Tom!” Naomi urged desperately. Thomas stared in stunned disbelief before snapping into action at her frantic cry of “Now!”

He jammed the gearshift into drive and sped off, his jaw slack with shock as his wide-eyed stare remained glued to the road ahead, knuckles white where his grip tightened on the steering wheel.

Naomi felt every muscle in her body tighten, yet the sight of Thomas’s stricken expression spurred her to speak. “Whatever you witnessed,” she insisted firmly, “it never happened.” Her words hung heavy in the air as Thomas kept his gaze locked on the road ahead. Voice laced with disbelief, he retorted, “Are you suggesting I didn’t just see a man murdered right before us?”

“I understand how it appears, Tom,” Naomi asserted, her voice edged with urgency, “but a great deal is unfolding right now.” She paused, her gaze unwavering as she added, “You need to regain your composure.” Thomas let out a strained laugh, his hands trembling on the wheel. “What the hell is going on, Naomi? Are you involved with criminals?” he demanded.

Naomi looked ahead, her voice taut with uncertainty. “I don’t know right now,” she admitted before adding hesitantly, “That man works for me.” Thomas let out a bitter laugh. “Great, just great,” he muttered, shaking his head as the irony of the situation sank in. “Ha ha ha ha,” he repeated with hollow amusement. His voice dropped to a grim murmur as he added, “I know too much now, don’t I? I’m going to get a bullet in my head soon.” The exaggerated remark underscored the gravity of their predicament.

“Stop it, Tom—you’re going to be fine,” Naomi said sharply, her voice cutting through the tension. But Thomas shook his head wildly, repeating, “I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m more than fine—see?” His wide, unfocused eyes darted toward hers as he spoke. With a fierce edge to her tone, Naomi snapped back, “Keep your eyes on the road!”

“I can’t believe it,” Thomas exclaimed, his voice cracking with incredulity as he added, “Imagine this—I’m chauffeuring home Griselda herself. Did you know she murdered her own husband and lover?” Naomi’s eyes rolled skyward in exasperation as she countered sharply, “I am not some drug lord.”

“Of course, the company is merely a facade for laundering drug profits, and what about me?” Thomas spat bitterly, his voice rising as he continued, “Damn it all—I’ve been complicit in this criminal operation without even realizing it. You’ve had me assisting you every step of the way, haven’t you? Christ, Tom, you’re a fucking idiot,” he muttered under his breath.

Naomi exhaled slowly, her gaze steady as she insisted, “Let’s just get to your place—we’ll discuss everything there. It isn’t what you’re assuming.”

Once inside Thomas’ apartment, he moved swiftly to the window, his gaze darting nervously across the street as he scanned every shadowed corner. “What are you doing?” Naomi demanded, her voice edged with impatience. “Checking the perimeter,” he replied tersely, still fixated on the view outside. With a firm grip, Naomi pulled him away from the glass and seized his face between her hands. “Just sit down,” she ordered sharply, forcing him to meet her intense stare.

Thomas’s eyes roamed her face, searching for something familiar. “I don’t recognize you, Naomi,” he murmured. She held his gaze steadily and replied, “It’s me, Tom—I’m not different.”

Thomas sank onto the sofa, leaving a careful distance between them. The gruesome scene they’d both witnessed lingered in their minds, leaving Naomi shaken—this marked the first time she’d seen her contact commit murder right before her eyes.

She understood that he had taken matters into his own hands, and though she had allowed it—fully aware of the implications—now Thomas had witnessed the act. This unforeseen development complicated things further, for Thomas was not one to easily tolerate such brutality.

Thomas kept his gaze fixed on the floor, his mind adrift in some distant realm. Naomi’s soft query broke through the silence, “What are you thinking about Tom?” He glanced up at her, shaking his head slowly. His lips tightened and his cheeks puffed out; instinctively, he clapped a hand over his mouth and bolted for the bathroom. In one violent surge, he retched into the toilet.

Naomi remained in the living room as Thomas retched violently into the toilet. She reached for her phone, dialed her contact, and as soon as he answered, Naomi’s voice cut through the silence. “What happened?” she demanded. Her contact replied coolly, “He was tailing you—it was your intruder.” His words hung in the air with a chilling finality.

Naomi drew a slow breath. “Why did you do it?” she pressed quietly, alluding to the brutal point-blank shooting. “He won’t be a problem anymore,” came the cool reply. Naomi frowned, unsatisfied. “Look,” her contact continued with gruff finality, “I handle threats my own way—he was dangerous and wouldn’t have stopped.”

Naomi’s voice sharpened as she leaned into the phone. “Tom was a witness,” she pointed out, her tone edged with urgency. A pause followed, heavy with implication, before her contact replied in a low murmur, “You want me to handle that?” Naomi froze; the suggestion hung in the air like a blade poised to strike. Her eyes widened in disbelief and alarm as she recoiled, blurting out, “What? No! That’s not what I meant—I just meant it’s a bit fucking sloppy isn’t it from your side?”

“Is he going to be a problem?” he replied, his voice steady as he referred to Thomas. Naomi’s lips tightened into a firm line as she countered, “I’ll take care of him—just ensure you’re more careful next time.” A beat of silence passed before she added with finality, “And I don’t want to see it.”

“Noted”

Naomi ended the call as Thomas reemerged into the living room, a tissue pressed to his mouth. “Urgghhh, I don’t feel too good,” he murmured weakly. Naomi rose immediately. “Why don’t you lie down,” she suggested with a note of concern. He gave a slight nod, allowing her to guide him toward the sofa. His pallid face betrayed a mixture of tension and nausea, his unease palpable in the quiet room.

Naomi settled beside him on the sofa as he reclined, his gaze wandering distractedly around the room while her fingers combed gently through his hair. Clearing her throat softly, she began, “The man following us was targeting me.” She paused briefly before continuing in a hushed tone, “He was the one who held me at gunpoint last night while I was naked in my bedroom.” At her words, Thomas slowly turned his head to meet her eyes.

Thomas remained silent, his steady gaze conveying a clear comprehension of the ordeal Naomi had endured. Tears gathered in Naomi’s eyes as she confessed in a quavering whisper, “I thought I was going to die, Tom.” He reached for her hand, pressing a tender kiss upon her palm.

“I swear to you, Tom, I never imagined my contact would kill him; I genuinely believed he would only frighten the man away,” she explained, her voice trembling with earnestness. Then, with a pained expression, she added softly, “I was just as stunned by what happened as you were.”

Thomas opened his arms in a silent gesture of solace. Naomi surrendered to the offered comfort, leaning into him until her head came to rest against his shoulder. Muffled by the fabric of his shirt, she whispered, “Someone is after me, Tom—they want to hurt me.” Thomas let out a heavy sigh as he held her close.

“I’m here for you,” he murmured softly, his voice a soothing balm in the tense silence. “Whatever it is, I’m not going anywhere.” As Naomi lifted her head, her gaze locking with his, she gently placed her palm against his cheek. A single tear traced a slow path down her face as she whispered, “The night in the Gala ... what you said...”
