Atlanta Church Confessional: Sunday 8:00 AM

The priest stood at the head of the altar addressing a packed congregation, his voice resonating through the hushed sanctuary. “Brothers and Sisters,” he proclaimed solemnly, “there is a poison among us, creeping into our midst and drawing us away from our Lord and Savior.”

“We are instructed to love our neighbor, even should they prove our adversary,” he declared gravely, “yet this does not compel us to intertwine our lives—to bear children together nor forge intimate bonds. For in time,” he warned as his voice grew heavy, “it shall be you, my brothers and sisters of color, who face destruction—a slow decay born from the moral decay of those outside our community.”

Damien glanced at his watch with a weary sigh, then turned to Evelyn seated beside him. “Same old shit, every damn week,” he muttered dismissively. Evelyn shot back sharply, “Be quiet, Damien. Just because you’ve lost your way doesn’t mean I want to join you in that hellhole.” He scoffed incredulously, “Me?”

“I’ve lost my way? Have you even looked in the mirror?” he challenged, turning to face her fully. “What are you talking about?” Evelyn hissed under her breath, barely audible above the priest’s drone. “You despise your daughter,” he pressed, his tone unyielding. With a bitter laugh, she shot back, “It’s not my fault I gave birth to the devil herself.” He shook his head in disbelief. “You are truly something, Evelyn,” he declared, raising his voice enough to draw glances from nearby worshippers.

Evelyn turned to Damien, her voice tight with bitterness. “Ever since she was small, everyone whispered that Naomi was a little demon,” she said. “It took me years to finally accept it. And now? She doesn’t even set foot in this church. What do you think that says?”

Damien let out a weary sigh, shaking his head slowly. “Sounds like you’re more interested in listening to other people’s opinions than trusting your own damn judgment about your flesh and blood,” he replied quietly, though the weight of his disapproval hung heavy in the air between them.

The priest, oblivious to whom he addressed, interjected sternly, “Excuse me! Is there somewhere else you’d rather be besides the Lord’s house?” Startled by the rebuke, Damien rose to his feet. “My apologies, reverend,” he offered politely before gesturing for the service to resume. Only then did recognition flash across the priest’s face. “Oh, Mr. Sinclair—it’s quite alright,” he stammered nervously as he fumbled through his remaining words. Settling back into his seat, Damien noticed curious glances from those around him.

Evelyn uttered with venom, “I was wrong—you’re the devil.” Her voice dropped to a bitter murmur. “And Naomi is my child.” Damien met her accusation with a knowing smirk, the tension between them crackling like dry tinder.

James’ house: 10:00 AM

James stirred awake as an arm draped itself across his bare chest. “Good morning,” a male voice murmured beside him. Turning his head, James found himself staring at Darius, who propped himself up on one elbow. “Breakfast?” Darius suggested casually. But James’ response was a venomous snarl. “Get the fuck out!” he spat, shocking Darius into silence. The escort could only manage a bewildered “What?” as James threw back the covers and stormed naked toward the bathroom. Pausing at the threshold, he flung one last warning over his shoulder. “You better be gone, n****, by the time I’m done with my shit.” With that, he slammed the bathroom door shut behind him.

James strode into his kitchen, intent on brewing coffee, when he began rummaging through a drawer. As he searched, his frustration mounted. “What the fuck?” he muttered, slamming drawers shut one after another. “Motherfucker,” he growled under his breath before snatching up his phone and dialing a number. Impatiently tapping his foot, he urged, “Come on, come on.” When someone finally answered, James demanded in a hushed tone, “Yo, I need to meet up with y’all tonight—I’m completely dry.” The voice on the other end assured him simply, “Just come down to the club; I’ll be there.” With that, James ended the call.

10:10 AM

Naomi awakened slowly, her bare body hidden beneath the sheets. A subtle movement from a form atop her brought a soft smile to her lips. “Mmm, that feels nice,” she murmured, sliding her hand under the covers to caress the head now working between her thighs. Her breath grew ragged as she whispered urgently, “Yes, lick my pussy just like that.” A low moan escaped her parted lips as she tilted her head back, eyes fluttering closed in pleasure until a shudder of release pulsed through her body.

Thomas lifted his head from between her thighs, his lips glistening as he leaned in to kiss her deeply. Pulling back slightly, he murmured against her mouth, “You’re fucking amazing.” She smiled lazily in response, replying with a confident purr, “I know.”

He lay beside her, their faces turned toward each other as they shared tender, lingering kisses. Thomas murmured softly, “Who would have thought you and Kiara would become friends?” A smirk played on his lips. Naomi let out a low chuckle, replying with amusement, “Well, she’s certainly an interesting person—she’s got that same fire as me. Even being pregnant, she fought me.”

Naomi propped herself up on her elbows, turning to face Thomas with a curious glint in her eye. “Do you find her attractive?” she questioned bluntly. Thomas paused, his chest rising as he drew in a cautious breath. Choosing his words deliberately, he replied, “She’s a striking woman.” Naomi’s gaze sharpened as she studied him, her tone teasing yet probing. “I think you like her—it seems you have a thing for us black women. What is it? A fetish?”

He leaned into her, his lips brushing hers as he spoke with unwavering resolve. “Absolutely not,” he declared firmly, the assertion carrying both finality and sincerity.

“Come, I’ll make us some breakfast,” Thomas said before Naomi could even fully settle in. She mumbled her reply, “You do that, let me sleep another ten minutes,” and shut her eyes. But Thomas was already moving—rising from the bed completely naked. He strode to her side, gently tugged the covers away in one fluid motion, and scooped her up into his arms before she could react. Naomi’s eyes flew open as she let out a startled yelp at his playful surprise.

Cradling her against his muscular frame, Thomas grinned playfully. “Time for breakfast, darling,” he announced lightheartedly. Naomi draped an arm around his neck, her eyes locking onto his with mischievous intensity. With a coy smile playing on her lips, she teased, “You’re fired.” As he dipped his head to capture her mouth in a fervent kiss, their passion flared anew.

The Velvet Den: 10:00 PM

James parked his Ferrari along the curb, then handed the keys to the valet who emerged from the shadows. “Don’t you fuckin’ scratch it,” he warned sharply as he relinquished control. The attendant gave a curt nod before sliding behind the wheel and disappearing around back to park it safely. James approached the entrance where two imposing bouncers stood guard; they parted without hesitation, granting him passage into the pulsating heart of The Velvet Den.

As he entered, the club’s thumping bass reverberated through his chest while scantily clad dancers swayed under pulsing lights. Yet James remained focused solely on his true objective, scanning the crowd until his gaze locked onto the person he’d come to find.

Tyrone approached James, extending a hand for a firm handshake. With a subtle tilt of his head, Tyrone gestured toward the rear of the club. Together they navigated through the dimly lit hallway, emerging into a secluded outdoor space where the noise of the pulsating music faded into distant echoes.

Tyrone raised an eyebrow. “How much this time?”

James smirked. “Twenty grams.”

Tyrone shook his head, voice tight with annoyance. “Fuck that—I told you I cap it at ten. I got a business to run here, can’t just dump everything on you whenever you snap your fingers.”

James stepped closer, his tone dripping with contempt. “I’ve got the cash to take whatever the fuck I want—stop being such a fucking pussy about it.”

Tyrone pressed his lips together briefly as he weighed the proposition. “Alright, but this is the final time,” he stated firmly. He strode casually toward a nearby dumpster, shifted its heavy weight aside, and retrieved several small plastic bags filled with cocaine that had been stashed beneath. Returning to James, he exchanged the drugs for a thick wad of hundreds.

James held one of the plastic bags up to his face, shaking it with a chuckle. “That’s what I’m talkin’ bout,” he said.

James shook Tyrone’s hand, smirking as he drawled, “See you next time n****, I’m about to—” His words cut off abruptly. A deafening crack shattered the night air. Tyrone’s head jerked violently to the side before his body crumpled to the ground. James stumbled backward, crashing hard onto the pavement. His jaw hung slack in disbelief as a shadowy figure clad entirely in black loomed over Tyrone’s motionless form. The assailant leveled a pistol at point-blank range and fired again, the gun bucking with each shot. James flinched with every thunderous report, his ears ringing as reality fractured around him.

The shadowy figure vanished into the darkness as James froze, terror seizing his muscles. His chest heaved with panicked breaths, eyes locked on Tyrone’s lifeless body sprawled on the pavement, blood pooling beneath his head. Scattered around him lay the small plastic bags filled with cocaine.

With trembling hands, James snatched up the packets, stuffing them into his pockets. He staggered backward toward the building’s entrance and burst through the front door.

“Where’s my keys?” he demanded frantically to the valet standing nearby. The attendant blinked in confusion and replied, “I’ll bring out your car, sir—” But James cut him off with a desperate growl: “Just give me the fuckin’ keys!”

James threw himself behind the wheel of his Ferrari, slamming the door shut. His hands trembled as they gripped the steering wheel. He revved the engine to a furious roar, tires screaming against asphalt as he tore away from the curb in a cloud of acrid smoke.

Raw Couture: Conference Room - Monday 10 AM

Naomi settled into her seat in the conference room, glancing around at the assembled faces. Everyone required for the meeting had arrived—except for James. “Where the fuck is James?” she snapped impatiently. Turning to Isabella, she barked, “Go check if that asshole is up to something he shouldn’t be in his office.” Without hesitation, Isabella rose and replied crisply, “Certainly, ma’am,” before exiting the room.

Evelyn sneered, her lips curling into a disdainful twist. “Perhaps that whole chair through his window finally rattled him,” she remarked with biting sarcasm. Naomi’s gaze snapped toward her mother, irritation flashing in her eyes. “Oh really?” she shot back, venom dripping from her words. “The only thing that would shake him is if he ran out of fucking coke to snort.”

Isabella returned to the room, her brow furrowed. “He’s not in his office, ma’am?” she reported with a hint of concern. Naomi’s head snapped toward her mother as she spat, “What the fuck?” before turning a demanding glare at Evelyn. “Get him here,” she commanded sharply, rising from her seat and storming out of the conference room. Thomas watched from across the desk, his expression weary; he had witnessed both sides of Naomi’s temperament countless times, and everyone knew better than to provoke this particular facet of her personality.

James’ house: 10:10 AM

James clutched a tumbler of whiskey in one trembling hand while the other held a cigarette, perched on his sofa with lines of cocaine laid out across the coffee table before him. As he drank deeply, his knee bounced incessantly and his buzzing phone punctuated the tense silence of the room.

His phone buzzed yet again, the screen flashing Evelyn’s name. James glanced at the caller ID before quickly averting his gaze as tears blurred his vision.

11: 00 AM

James froze as the crunch of tires on gravel signaled a car approaching his secluded property. “Fuck,” he cursed under his breath, hastily retreating to his bedroom where he yanked open the nightstand drawer and retrieved a pistol.

The insistent pounding on the front door jolted him upright, his chest pressing hard against the bedroom door as ragged breaths escaped his lungs. “JAMES!” Evelyn’s voice shattered the quiet, sharp and desperate. His forehead creased with confusion as he murmured, “Ma?”

James cautiously opened the door just wide enough to peer out. “What are you doing here, Ma?” he asked warily. Evelyn’s voice sharpened with urgency as she responded, “What’s wrong with you? You should be at the office—Naomi is furious you missed that meeting. Son, this is not good. You need to show your face at least.”

“I can’t do this right now ma,” he said, his voice strained as Evelyn’s brow furrowed with concern. “What’s the matter?” she pressed, her tone laced with apprehension. James gestured for her to enter, momentarily forgetting the pistol still gripped tightly in his hand.

As soon as Evelyn saw the gun, her eyes widened in alarm. “What the fuck James, why do you have a gun in your hand?” she demanded, her voice sharp with shock as he glanced down at the weapon, setting it on the table beside the door.

James gasped for breath, his hands flying up to cover his face as wrenching sobs erupted from his chest. Evelyn stared in stunned disbelief, her whisper trembling with dread. “What’s wrong?” she murmured urgently, moving closer. James choked out between ragged cries, “I might be in trouble, ma.”

Raw Couture: Naomi’s office 12:00 PM

Naomi’s fingers flew across the keyboard as she focused intently on her screen. A sharp knock interrupted her concentration, and without looking up from her work, she called out, “Come in.” Thomas cautiously poked his head through the doorway. “Is it a good time?” he asked politely. Naomi waved him inside with a brief flick of her wrist, signaling for him to take a seat opposite her desk.

Naomi continued typing with unwavering focus, her gaze locked on the screen as Thomas spoke. “I heard James is on his way here,” he mentioned, though Naomi remained absorbed in her work, not shifting her attention from the monitor.

Thomas leaned forward, his voice edged with impatience. “Did you hear me?” he pressed as Naomi muttered “Aha” without breaking her focus on the screen. Thomas continued, “Hey, you were furious in the conference room about him not being present—I thought you’d...” Before he could finish, Naomi cut him off sharply. “I couldn’t give two fucks if he was here or not, Tom,” she snapped, causing his brow to furrow in bewilderment.

“I don’t understand,” Thomas remarked, his brow knitting together. Naomi paused her typing, swiveling her chair to meet his gaze directly. “Let me make this clear,” she stated with icy precision, “when I schedule a meeting, every person involved better be present. If James shows up now? It means absolutely nothing. That man is deliberately trying to undermine me—again—and I refuse to tolerate it any longer. I’m drafting an email outlining my intent to dock pay for anyone absent from mandatory meetings, and I’ll need your legal authorization before sending it out.”

Naomi glanced at her phone, checking the time. “There’s a catwalk exhibition on the third floor in an hour,” she said sharply. “I want this resolved by then—check your email.”

Raw Couture: Elevator 12:30 PM

James and Evelyn stepped into the elevator heading to the fifth floor. Evelyn fixed her son with a stern look. “Whatever you do,” she warned, “you don’t breathe a word of this—especially not to Naomi.” James seethed inwardly, his jaw tightening. “I know that, Ma,” he shot back defensively. “You really think I’d hand her any ammunition? She’d tear me apart given half a chance.”

Raw Couture: 3rd Floor Catwalk 1:00 PM

Naomi settled into her reserved seat at the front of the catwalk, positioning herself beside Emily, the lead designer. “This is so exciting,” Naomi exclaimed, her body humming with palpable energy as she gestured expressively. Emily turned to her with a warm smile and replied, “I hope you enjoy it.”

As the music played, Naomi watched with rapt attention as models emerged one after another, each adorned in Emily’s freshly designed garments. She marveled at the intricate craftsmanship of the exquisite dresses, noting how the diverse racial backgrounds of the models lent a dynamic vibrancy to the show. Behind the curtain, a flurry of activity unfolded as stylists swiftly helped them change outfits between appearances.

The particular gown that captured Naomi’s attention—the daring high slit design that extended provocatively past the waistline, deliberately leaving nothing concealed beneath. As the striking Black model paused mid-stride, her pose accentuated the bold cut, leaving little to imagination. Naomi found herself captivated, her gaze locked on the display of audacious elegance. Leaning closer, Emily murmured, “Satisfactory?” to which Naomi replied without hesitation, “Fucking amazing.”

Naomi sprang to her feet, her hands crashing together in thunderous applause as she gestured emphatically toward Emily. Amid the roaring approval of the crowd, she continued clapping with unrestrained enthusiasm.

As they stepped into the elevator together, Naomi and Emily dissolved into shared laughter. Naomi pressed a hand lightly to her chest, her voice filled with genuine admiration. “Ah, you’re a genius, Emily,” she declared. Emily blushed modestly, replying, “I appreciate it, but it would be nothing without your keen eye for design.”

Thomas’ office: 3:00 PM

A firm knock echoed at Thomas’ office door. At his call to enter, Daryl cautiously peered inside before stepping across the threshold. Thomas glanced up sharply from his desk, then greeted him with a polite, “Can I help you with something, Daryl?” Daryl settled into a chair opposite him and posed his question plainly, “Can I ask you something, Tom?” Thomas nodded assent, replying simply, “Of course.”

Daryl paused briefly, his gaze unwavering, as Thomas regarded him with a trace of concern. “You’ve been spending considerable time with Naomi,” Daryl stated matter-of-factly. Thomas shifted slightly in his seat, offering a measured reply. “She relies on my legal counsel for many matters.”

Daryl continued, his voice heavy with regret, “Since she saw me in that picture with the stripper in Miami, I feel like I’m losing her.” Thomas shifted uncomfortably, uncertain how to respond to such a personal admission. Clearing his throat, he offered gently, “Daryl, I’m not a counselor.” But Daryl persisted, leaning forward slightly as he interjected, “Hear me out.”

Daryl leaned forward earnestly, his voice edged with quiet desperation. “You two seem to connect well, and Naomi values your opinion—perhaps you could discover the reason behind her growing distance from me.” Thomas hesitated, shifting uneasily in his chair. He exhaled slowly, his response measured yet laced with sympathy. “She’s facing immense pressures right now; taking over as CEO was no minor transition—it transformed every aspect of her life.”

Daryl sank deeper into the chair, hands open in appeal. “Would you at least talk to her?” he implored softly. “She barely responds when I ask—always too busy.” Thomas gave a slow, deliberate nod. “I will,” he promised gravely.

Daryl stood and offered a grateful nod. “Thanks, man, appreciate it,” he said before turning to leave. Once the door closed behind him, Thomas released a slow breath and muttered under his breath, “What the fuck.”

Raw Couture: James’ office 4:00 PM

James sat hunched over his computer, fingers flying across the keyboard as he scoured news sites for any mention of last night’s shooting. But his search yielded nothing—no police reports, no headlines screaming of a murder, not even a whisper about the incident. The club itself seemed to have resumed business as usual, as though the violence had never occurred.

Tyrone had been his sole reliable contact, someone James trusted implicitly after years of consistent dealings. There was truth in the old adage about drug dealers: once you found one worth trusting, loyalty became paramount. Yet now, that vital connection was destroyed.

He jumped at the abrupt pounding on his door. “What?” he called out, his voice edged with nerves as Naomi strode in. “Where were you this morning?” she demanded sharply. “Not now Naomi, I can’t deal with this,” he pleaded. She stepped closer, her tone dripping with irritation. “I don’t give a fuck—I don’t like being stood up on a meeting. Are you trying to tell me something?”

“Not everything is about you,” he snapped, his voice laced with irritation. “I just had a lot on my mind.” Naomi’s eyes narrowed as she pressed further. “What? Apart from paranoia?” His brow creased in confusion before he looked up at her. “With all that shit you keep snorting,” she accused, her tone dripping with disdain. He shifted his gaze back to the monitor, jaw tightening as he refused to engage further.

James uttered the words with uncharacteristic pleading, “Please, just leave me alone.” Naomi paused, taken aback; her brother rarely appealed to her in such a manner. With genuine curiosity replacing her earlier irritation, she asked softly, “What’s going on?”

Raw Couture: Naomi’s office 6:00 PM

Naomi pondered James’ peculiar actions before reaching for her phone. She launched a specialized application that masked her voice and scrambled the connection, then dialed a number she knew only too well. After several rings, a terse “Yeah” greeted her on the other end. “What happened last night?” Naomi demanded, her tone laced with urgency.

“Exactly what you wanted,” the voice replied with icy detachment. The moment those words registered, Naomi severed the connection. She placed the phone deliberately on her desk, her gaze fixed upon it. A heavy weight settled over her features before gradually transforming into a knowing smirk.

Velvet Vine Restaurant: 9:00 PM

Naomi and Thomas stepped into the opulent restaurant, the maître d’ guiding them to a secluded table by the window. As they settled into their seats, Thomas leaned forward, his voice hushed. “Is it prudent for us to be seen together here?” Naomi met his gaze, her tone steady and composed. “We’re simply discussing business matters, Tom.” Though he gave a curt nod in response, his lingering unease was palpable.

Across the street, a sleek black sedan idled in the shadows. At the wheel sat an African American man whose watchful eyes never strayed from the restaurant. Reaching for his phone, he tapped in a number and waited. When the call connected, he spoke with quiet professionalism, “Ma’am, I’m positioned outside the Velvet Vine Restaurant. Naomi has just arrived with the attorney.” A pause followed as Evelyn’s voice came through the line. “And what are they doing?” she asked.

The driver glanced back toward the window where Naomi and Thomas were now seated. “They appear to be talking,” he reported matter-of-factly. Evelyn considered this information before responding thoughtfully, “Hmm, it could simply be a business discussion. Continue monitoring them and inform me immediately if anything unusual occurs.” The driver affirmed with a crisp “Will do, ma’am” before ending the call and refocusing his attention on the couple inside.

“Daryl came to my office today,” Thomas disclosed, his tone measured. Naomi arched an eyebrow. “What for?” Thomas shifted uncomfortably. “It was about you, naturally. He seemed quite distressed.” Naomi took a deliberate sip of wine, her expression unyielding. “He’s perpetually distraught these days—becoming rather clingy, constantly attempting to insinuate himself into my affairs.” Thomas let out a weary sigh. “Nevertheless,” he reminded her quietly, “he remains your husband.”

“Don’t remind me,” she retorted sharply, taking another slow sip of wine. “I’ll handle Daryl—I’ll ensure he doesn’t feel sidelined. I might even assign him more responsibilities; frankly, he’d perform far better than James ever could.”

Thomas gazed into his wine, his voice tinged with melancholy. “Daryl is different from your family—he doesn’t harbor malice, and it’s clear he loves you.” Naomi leaned forward, her tone softening slightly. “I understand,” she conceded, “and I don’t wish for him to suffer. But he chose to join this family, and I cannot shield him from its realities. Regardless of his innocence, he did kiss that stripper—there’s no denying that lapse in judgment.”

“Yeah,” Thomas replied, his voice tinged with regret. “I only wish it had been us who married.” Naomi’s gaze drifted toward the window, her brow furrowing in confusion. “What the fuck?” she muttered abruptly. Thomas glanced outside, alarmed. “What?” he asked, turning to follow her line of sight. “There’s someone in a car watching us,” Naomi explained tersely as Thomas scanned the street. The observer, caught spying, hastily averted his eyes and drove off.

As Kendrick sped away from the scene, he cursed under his breath. “Fuck,” he muttered, realizing with a sinking feeling that his surveillance had been compromised. The knowledge that Naomi had spotted him sent a jolt of anxiety through him. “Evelyn’s going to flip,” he remarked grimly, knowing the repercussions of his carelessness would be severe.

As they watched the car vanish down the road, Naomi’s lips tightened into a cynical smirk. “Someone is watching me,” she declared, the realization dawning on her with unsettling clarity. Thomas turned to her, his expression doubtful. “You sure?” he questioned. Naomi gave a curt nod, her voice laced with irritation. “I’m fucking sure,” she confirmed, muttering under her breath as suspicion coiled around her thoughts. “This is either James’ or my mother’s doing,” she concluded bitterly.

“If that’s true, then they saw us together,” Thomas remarked, his tone laced with apprehension. “It’s only dinner—we didn’t give them a reason to suspect anything,” Naomi countered confidently, though irritation simmered beneath her words. “But if they piece this together, I’m sure they’re going to have a field day.” Her voice dripped with sarcasm as she considered the implications of being watched.

“Fuck! We’re about to release a new brand of clothing and I have to deal with this shit too?” she exclaimed, frustration seeping into every word. Naomi tossed her napkin onto the table with a sharp flick of her wrist; the half-eaten meal sat abandoned before her. “I’ve lost my appetite,” she added with a dismissive wave. Thomas, sensing her mounting agitation, interjected quickly. “Let’s get out of here then.”

James’ Apartment: 9:30 PM

“They might be having an affair,” Evelyn stated matter-of-factly over the phone to James.

“Who? Naomi and Thomas? Yeah right!” he scoffed with a derisive chuckle, adding, “I didn’t think she was interested in vanilla,” referring pointedly to Thomas being a white man.

“That’s beside the point,” Evelyn replied coolly. “If she is involved with him, we could use that information.”

“You need proof first, ma,” James countered. “Were they kissing?”

“No, just talking,” Evelyn clarified. “But Kendrick remains on watch for any further developments.”

“Shit, he’s calling me now—I’ll ring you back later,” Evelyn muttered abruptly before ending the call with James.

Evelyn’s house: 9:35 PM

“What?! You fucking idiot,” Evelyn snapped over the phone, her voice sharp with fury. Kendrick stammered an apology, his tone laced with regret. “I’m sorry ma’am, there wasn’t much space to be invisible.”

Evelyn sighed, rubbing her temple with a weary hand. Just then, Damien entered the living room as Evelyn softened her tone over the phone. “Be more careful next time,” she advised gently. Kendrick responded hesitantly, “Understood—won’t disappoint you again.” Evelyn offered a faint smile before murmuring, “Alright then, goodbye,” and disconnecting the call.

“What was that about?” Damien asked, raising an eyebrow. “Oh, just some tedious work matters,” she replied casually, though her tone did little to quell his suspicions. “Is there anything I need to be aware of?” he pressed gently. Evelyn shook her head with a dismissive smile. “You know how these things go—nothing for you to trouble yourself over.”

Damien sighed, his gaze drifting toward Evelyn as he posed the question. “How’s James holding up?” Her brow creased instantly, a flicker of unease crossing her features. “What do you mean?” she countered, her tone laced with defensiveness. He studied her reaction for a moment before elaborating gently, “I’m simply concerned about our son—with all these changes at the company, you know ... Naomi stepping into the CEO role.”
