Kwame stepped off the elevator onto the fifth floor and hurried into his office. Without wasting a moment, he snatched up the receiver. “Priya,” he demanded urgently, “are those legal documents properly processed?” Priya’s reply came swiftly. “Yes, Kwame, I sent them out—we should have confirmation within the hour.”

Kwame hurried out from his office to Naomi’s, rapping sharply on her door. When no answer came, he turned the knob and entered, already anticipating her absence. His brief scan confirmed it—she was not there.

Just before he was about to walk out, Naomi’s desk phone rang. His eyes furrowed as he went to pick it up. “Naomi’s office, Kwame speaking!” he answered briskly. “Sir this is security,” came the urgent reply, “James has arrived and we’ve stopped him from entering but he’s being difficult.” Kwame acknowledged with a curt nod. “I’ll be right down.”

Raw Couture - Lobby

James slouched against the polished reception counter, ignoring the two security guards flanking him. With a roguish grin, he leaned toward Tiffany and drawled, “Come girl—let’s ditch this shithole and head to my place.” Tiffany paused mid-nail file, arching an eyebrow as a faint blush crept across her cheeks.

“Mr. Sinclair, I’m working,” Tiffany countered, her tone laced with coy challenge. Before she could fully recover, he pressed on. “Where’s that bitch Chanelle anyway?” Tiffany hesitated for a moment. “Don’t you know? She was kidnapped right here a few days ago.” James jerked back slightly, his expression twisting. “What?!”

The elevator doors slid open and Kwame emerged, his face etched with barely concealed fury as he marched toward James. Catching sight of him, James flashed a mocking smirk. “Well, well,” he jeered, “looks like Naomi’s attack dog has arrived.”

Kwame seized James by his collar, bunching the fabric tightly in his fists. James recoiled, snarling, “What the fuck! Get your hands off me, n****” With a forceful shove, Kwame drove him backward into the nearby wall.

“Now motherfucker,” Kwame snarled, his voice low and menacing as he leaned in until his face hovered mere inches from James’, “I’m only asking once—where the fuck is Naomi?” James glared back defiantly, spitting out, “Fuck you, motherfucker—who the fuck do you think you’re talking to?”

Kwame tightened his grip, his knuckles whitening as he pressed closer. One of the security guards interjected nervously, “Sir, please—we need to handle this professionally.” Ignoring the plea, Kwame leaned in further, his voice dropping to a threatening growl. “I know you fucking know something, so cut the shit and tell me where the hell she is.”

“Fuck you man, I don’t know shit about what you’re talking about,” James spat back, his glare locked with Kwame’s unwavering stare. Kwame shoved him away with a finality that left no room for argument. “Get your black ass out of here—you don’t belong anywhere near this place anymore.”

Southern Pines Golf Retreat

Damien slouched in a leather armchair inside the golf club’s country house, swirling amber whiskey in his crystal tumbler. His phone vibrated sharply on the polished oak table beside him. He snatched it up, irritation flashing across his face as he barked into the receiver, “Where the hell have you been, Jacob? I had to call some other damn driver to get me here.”

“I’m sorry sir, I had business to attend to,” Jacob replied over the line. Damien’s brow creased with suspicion as he demanded, “And what sort of business would that be?”

A tense silence crackled through the line as Damien lifted a skeptical eyebrow. “It’s not anything you should be concerned about sir,” Jacob finally responded, his voice carefully neutral. Damien drew a slow breath, suspicion hardening his tone as he commanded, “Come to the club—I want my driver.” Without hesitation, Jacob replied crisply, “On my way, sir.”

Jacob had collected Damien, noticing the bandage stretched across his employer’s cheekbone. “What happened to your face?” Damien queried as he settled into the backseat. Jacob offered a wry smile. “Had an altercation with my cat, sir,” he replied smoothly. “Suffice to say, he got what he wanted in the end.” A low chuckle escaped him as the car pulled onto the road.

“Where to, sir?” Jacob asked, his gaze flickering to the rearview mirror. Damien released a heavy sigh. “To the company—I need to speak with Naomi.” Jacob hesitated, studying Damien’s expression in the mirror. “Are you certain that’s advisable, sir?” he ventured cautiously.

Damien narrowed his eyes, questioning, “Why not?” Jacob shifted in his seat, choosing his words carefully. “Sir,” he began, “I believe she may be operating against your best interests...” He paused, glancing at Damien’s reflection in the rearview mirror. “ ... She is clearly important to you, but do you truly think she shares those same sentiments?”

“I know my daughter,” Damien asserted firmly, his gaze fixed on the passing cityscape. Jacob’s jaw clenched as his grip tightened on the steering wheel, the leather creaking beneath his knuckles. His eyes flickered to the rearview mirror, reflecting quiet frustration as he guided the car through bustling downtown traffic.

Kwame attempted to reach the number that had called him yesterday, but no one answered. Annoyed, he slammed his phone down on his desk and cradled his head in his hands, elbows pressing into the polished surface.

A sharp rap echoed against Kwame’s door. “Enter,” he called out, rising instinctively as Damien stepped inside. Kwame adjusted his suit with practiced ease, his eyes widening slightly at the unexpected visitor. “Mr. Sinclair,” he greeted, attempting to mask his surprise. Damien gave a knowing nod. “The name’s Kwame, isn’t it?” he asked casually. Kwame managed a brief nod in reply, still gathering his composure.

Damien extended a hand and Kwame accepted the firm handshake. “Have you seen my daughter?” Damien asked, his tone casual yet probing. Kwame’s lips pressed into a thin line as he shook his head. “She hasn’t been in today,” he replied, watching as Damien paced slowly around the room. A moment passed before Kwame added quietly, “I’m not certain, but I suspect she might be in some kind of danger.”

Damien whirled to face Kwame, his eyes narrowing. “Danger?” he repeated sharply, resuming his measured pacing. With a low mutter of irritation, he added, “James—” Kwame quickly interjected, “I don’t believe it’s James, Mr. Sinclair. He was here earlier; I questioned him thoroughly and he seemed genuinely unaware.”

Unknown Location

A sudden knock at the door startled Naomi. Her head jerked toward the sound as Chanelle offered, “They’re bringing us groceries.” The distinct clink of a key turning in the lock followed, and the door creaked open. Two men stood framed in the doorway—one holding a weapon at the ready. Naomi’s gaze locked onto them, her body tensing with apprehension.

One of the men deposited two plastic grocery bags near the threshold. Naomi’s eyes narrowed as the door clicked shut and the deadbolt slid into place.

Chanelle rummaged through the grocery bags with practiced efficiency. “These will do nicely,” she murmured, already turning toward the kitchen. Naomi arched an eyebrow at Chanelle’s unsettlingly calm demeanor. “You’re acting like this is all normal, Chanelle,” Naomi observed with a note of disbelief. Chanelle paused mid-step, her expression momentarily faltering as she met Naomi’s gaze. “I ... I am?” she responded softly, the question lingering in the tense silence.

Naomi stormed to the front door, hammering her fists against the wood and screaming, “Open this fucking door!” She launched a furious kick at the barrier, snarling, “Ma’am, it’s no use.” As she heard the lock click open, Naomi stepped back just as the door swung wide. One of the armed men stood silhouetted in the doorway, glaring at her. “Shut your damn mouth,” he commanded harshly. Naomi glared defiantly. “Make me,” she challenged.

The man’s hand shot to his waistband. Metal gleamed as he drew the gun, aiming its barrel squarely at Naomi’s chest. She didn’t flinch. Instead, she squared her shoulders and stepped forward, eyes blazing with defiance. “Go ahead and try it,” she spat, voice dripping with contempt. “Hurt us? And you’re fucked.”

The guard holstered his weapon with a sneer. “Once we get the green light from Jacob, then you’ll see,” he snarled before slamming the door shut, sealing Naomi and Chanelle back inside their prison.

Naomi lingered in place, her pulse still racing from the confrontation. Chanelle’s soft voice broke the heavy silence. “Would you like me to make some pasta?” she offered, attempting to dispel the lingering tension. Naomi shifted her weight, hands resting on her hips as she regarded Chanelle with a mixture of disbelief and reluctant amusement. “Do we have wine?” she queried dryly. Chanelle nodded eagerly, already turning toward the kitchen.

Tyler cruised along the deserted street, his gaze drifting between the apartment buildings outside his window and the road ahead. His phone buzzed insistently; he glanced at it and answered in a low tone. “Report,” he demanded. His operative’s voice crackled through the line. “Nothing yet,” came the terse reply. Tyler nodded silently, eyes scanning the quiet surroundings. “I’m sweeping this area now—too silent for a typical neighborhood, ideal for holding hostages. Move to Ford Avenue.” Just as he finished speaking, his rearview mirror flashed with pulsating blue lights—a police cruiser closing in rapidly behind him.

He terminated the call and stowed the phone in the glove compartment, gathering any other devices from the passenger seat. Retrieving his license and registration, he slowed and maneuvered to the curb, rolling down his window as the lights pulsed in his rearview mirror.

As the police cruiser halted behind him, Tyler saw the first officer approach through his wing mirror while the second he observed through his rearview mirror. The lead officer advanced, shining a flashlight into Tyler’s eyes. “What seems to be the problem, Officer?” Tyler asked calmly.

The officer’s gaze swept across Tyler’s vehicle, the beam of his flashlight darting over the interior before settling on the back seat. “What are you doing here?” he demanded brusquely. Tyler arched an eyebrow, replying with deliberate calm, “I was on my way home.” The officer smirked slightly, responding, “Aha—they always are,” his eyes lingering suspiciously on the empty back seat.

Tyler offered coolly, “Sir, would you care to see my license and registration?” As the second officer circled his vehicle, the first extended his hand; Tyler surrendered the documents without hesitation.

The officer directed his flashlight beam across the document, scrutinizing each detail. “Mr. David Arnold,” he stated matter-of-factly. Tyler gave a curt nod, confirming, “That’s correct.” With measured composure, he added, “May I ask why you stopped me?”

“We’ve received several reports regarding erratic driving in this vicinity,” the officer stated tersely. Tyler maintained his composure, replying smoothly, “Understood, Officer. I must confess I took a wrong turn and slowed down to read some street signs more clearly.”

Jacob’s Apartment

Maria carefully arranged the dishes on the dining table, then called out softly to Jacob. “Dinner’s ready, darling.” He emerged from the hallway just as his phone vibrated in his pocket. Maria glanced at him knowingly. “Damien again?” she asked with a slight frown. Jacob nodded apologetically as he pulled out the device. “Let me see what he needs.”

He moved to the hallway, keeping an eye on his wife as he placed the phone to his ear. “Yeah?” he answered gruffly. “This is Jenson,” the caller announced. “I’ve stopped a suspicious man driving around Ford Avenue—his name is David Arnold.” Jacob’s brows creased. “Haven’t heard of him,” he responded with a curt tone.

“Keep him detained until I get there,” Jacob instructed firmly before ending the call. He returned to the dining area where Maria waited. “I’m truly sorry, sweetheart,” he apologized, his tone sincere yet hurried. Maria sighed wearily, her frustration evident in the slight slump of her shoulders. “Just go,” she urged with a mix of resignation and understanding. Jacob leaned forward, planting a gentle kiss on her cheek before murmuring, “Bye, honey.”

Tyler observed the officer remaining inside his patrol car, the man’s attention fixed on his cell phone rather than utilizing the police radio. Tyler shifted his focus to the second officer positioned before his vehicle. Moments later, the first officer ended his call and stepped out, advancing deliberately toward Tyler.

As the officer approached Tyler’s vehicle, he barked, “Step out of the car, Mr. Arnold.” Tyler merely offered a cool smirk before exiting the sedan. His towering frame cast an imposing presence over the cop, who craned his neck upward to meet Tyler’s steely gaze.

A sleek sedan suddenly screeched to a halt beside them, its doors bursting open as two armed men sprang out, weapons drawn. Simultaneously, the officer nearest Tyler yanked out his pistol—only for Tyler to snatch it deftly from his grasp mid-draw. In one fluid motion, Tyler seized the cop by the shoulder, spun him around, and locked a muscular arm around his throat. He pressed the stolen gun against the man’s temple, using him as both shield and bargaining chip.

Turning his gaze to the second officer, Tyler commanded coldly, “Drop your weapon.” The captive policeman echoed the order in a strained voice, pleading, “Do it!” The officer instantly complied, relinquishing his firearm with a clatter against the pavement.

Tyler gave a curt nod toward the man who emerged from the sedan. Without hesitation, that accomplice seized the remaining officer and slammed him onto the cruiser’s hood, securing his wrists with his own handcuffs.

Tyler leaned in, his voice a low growl near the captive officer’s ear. “Now ... Officer Jenson, I’ve put down cops before. If I catch you lying, you’re dead. We clear?”

Tyler said, “Good. Now tell me—who were you talking to on that phone call?”

Naomi and Chanelle lounged on the sofa, Naomi carefully filling Chanelle’s glass to the brim. Their laughter mingled as they toasted with a gentle clink of crystal.
