Aurora Hayes stood in front of the towering glass building, her fingers tightening around the strap of her handbag. The company logo gleamed under the morning sun, making her heart pound even faster.

Aurora swallowed nervously.
She knocked gently.
“Come in.”
The deep voice from inside made her stomach flutter.
She slowly opened the door.
The office was spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city.
Standing beside the window was a tall man in a charcoal-gray suit.
His broad shoulders, neatly styled black hair, and sharp jawline made him look like he’d stepped straight out of a magazine.
He turned around.
For a brief second, time seemed to stop.
His dark eyes met hers.
Aurora lowered her gaze almost immediately.
“Good morning, sir.”
There was no reply.
The silence stretched.
She looked up again.
The man was still staring at her.
Not rudely.
Not angrily.
Just ... staring.
Aurora shifted uncomfortably.
“Sir?”
Damien Carter blinked, as though snapping out of a trance.
