I was probably being an idiot by not joining the girls in the hot tub. Actually, I knew I was an idiot, which was why it was smarter for me to be right here, in the basement, and not out on the deck, further proving how big of a dumbass I really was.

I kept having that internal argument with myself as I turned on the lights in the basement and grabbed my controller and sat down on the couch. I hit the button on the controller to fire up my PlayStation when I heard a pair of feet coming down the stairs. I turned expecting to see Mom or maybe even Dad wanting to talk about our tee time in the morning, but it wasn’t my parents, it was my sister. My face scrunched up in confusion as Leah appeared at the bottom of the steps. She was all smiles though when she saw me looking in her direction.

“I thought you were getting in the hot tub?” I said, turning back to the television and starting Call of Duty.

“Oh, I am,” Leah replied, falling on the couch cushion next to me hard enough for me to bounce up at her impact. I gave her a startled look, and she just smirked nefariously. “I wanted to talk to you first.”

“Oh, really?” I questioned. “About what?”

“You and Jordyn.” Leah’s smirk widened into a knowing smile that bordered on evil.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I replied, doing my best to play dumb and drive Leah nuts. The crazy look on her face in reaction almost broke me, but I doubled down, saying, “There is no me and Jordyn.”

“Lucas, I swear to God!” Leah hissed, her eyes narrowed as she glared at me. I tried to ignore her, knowing that if I looked at her, I wouldn’t be able to maintain the ruse. “You better look at me or I will ... I don’t know yet, but you’re going to hate it.”

I looked at her, the heat in my cheeks rising, and I started laughing. Her eyes went wide at the realization I was just messing with her.

“You asshole!” Leah smacked me, but she was smiling as brightly as I was.

“Stop trying to hit me already,” I said, leaning away from her, using my arms to try to deflect her swings.

“I actually believed you for a second,” Leah growled.

“I’m sorry.” I laughed. “Come on, stop it.”

“Don’t ever do that to me again!” Leah swung one last time, hitting me solidly on the leg before crossing her arms in front of her chest, pouting.

Seeing her attack had finally stopped, I sat up and looked at Leah as she tucked her chin, hiding behind her wet hair that had fallen across her face.

“Oh, jeez, come here.” I reached and wrapped my arms around her, pulling her into my side. She still refused to look at me. “What did you really want to talk about?”

Leah didn’t speak, so I reached out and lifted her head gently, my finger under her chin, forcing her eyes up. She looked mad, but this was typical Leah. She hated it when I was able to pull one over on her. She would pout, like she was right now, and there was only one way I found over the years to get her to stop.

“I love you, Leah,” I said softly, gently, and she blinked, the corners of her lips twitching.

“Damnit,” she snapped, her cheeks heating. “It’s not fair you can do that to me!” Then she was the one to surprise me by leaning in and giving me a short, yet deep kiss before pulling back and looking around to make sure no one had seen us.

“You don’t love me, too?” I asked, giving her a sad look right back.

“Really, that doesn’t work on me,” she huffed. “But you know I love you too.”

I grinned, and she giggled, shifting in my arms and turning so her back was against me, my arms around her as she settled into them.

“Seriously, you wanted to talk about Jordyn?” I spoke into her ear.

“Yeah, she’s going to come down here,” Leah said. “As soon as I go back upstairs, she’s going to make some sort of excuse and slip down here and see you.”

“Okay?”

“She can’t stop talking about you, and she’s really nervous, so don’t push her.”

“Why would I do that?”

“Because you want in her panties!” She chuckled.

“I’m not going to argue with you there.”

“Good, because you’d be a liar if you tried.”

“True.”

“I’m serious, Lucas.” Leah twisted enough so that she could look at me. “You have to trust me on this.”

Leah was all about helping me out with the girl situation. She was all for it, as long as she got to pick the girl, or at minimum, approve of her. Jordyn was the first one she’d wanted me to go after. The way she said it, girls weren’t just seeing me, they were seeing me and my sister, even if they didn’t realize it.

“Oh, I know.” I smiled. “I listened when you told me I had to ignore her if I wanted to get her before.”

“Exactly.” Leah nodded. “And it worked, didn’t it?’

I nodded and sighed, agreeing with my sister. “For reasons I’ll never understand, yup, it did.”

“So, listen to me again, and everything will work out fine.”

“And what is it I’m supposed to do?” I asked. “Pretend like I don’t care?”

“Fuck no!” Leah shook her head jerkily. “If you do that, she’s going to come running back upstairs crying.”

“Jeez, okay,” I said. “What am I supposed to do?”

“Just be yourself and take things slow.” She smiled. “Let her take the lead. I’ll give her a little push.”

“I can do that.”

“I know you can.” Leah grinned. “Just remember, she doesn’t have our experience.”

“I get it, let her take the lead, don’t push, and don’t be disappointed if we don’t immediately start fucking on the couch.”

“Yup, perfect.”

“Anything else?”

“Nope, have fun, and don’t you dare hurt my friend.” That last bit about hurting Jordyn, there was an edge to her voice as she said it.

“I would never,” I said, offended at the mere idea.

“I know you wouldn’t.” Leah smiled, turning her head and kissing my cheek. “Okay, let me up so the little princess can sneak down here to see her prince.”

Leah gave me one last smile and a wink before I watched her hurry back up the stairs. It was almost twenty minutes later when I heard footsteps on the stairs again. I turned and saw Jordyn walking towards me, wrapped up in one of our huge white fluffy towels Mom loved, one end tucked into her cleavage, or where her cleavage would be, if it weren’t hidden behind the folded material.

“Hey!” I waved, smiling. “What are you doing down here? Is there something wrong with the hot tub?”

“Um, no...” Jordyn smiled shyly, her hands kneading together in front of her nervously. “The hot tub’s fine, great actually. It’s nice and hot.”

“Okay...” I replied, sounding more like a question than an answer.

“Would it be okay if I sit with you for a bit?” Jordyn asked, pointing at the couch next to me.

“Free country,” I replied, making a show of brushing off the cushion for her. “But then you gotta tell me what’s going on. Are my sister and Nik going to come looking for you?”

Jordyn moved in close, holding onto the bottom edge of the towel that looked like it barely covered her ass, and she sat down next to me.

“Nope, they have no idea I’m down here.” Jordyn giggled, her eyes only meeting mine for a moment before she looked away.

“Where do they think you are?”

“I told them I needed to use the bathroom and then had to call my mom,” she replied casually, like that was the best excuse ever, and there was no way they would come looking for her. I really wanted to point out the potential and obvious flaws in her logic, but I let it go. Right now, the sure-fire benefits far outweigh the potential costs.

“Good thinking.” I grinned, nodding along.

That’s when I noticed the towel wrapped around her. Not the towel itself, but what was missing under the towel. Jordyn’s shoulders were bare, which meant she wasn’t wearing the white bra she wore when we went swimming.

Jordyn saw where I was looking, and she flushed. “I had to take it off so it could dry.”

“Oh.” I smiled. “That makes sense.”

If there was ever a time I wished for the makeshift tie in the towel to come loose, now was freaking it!

“I’m sure you already know...” Jordyn smiled at me nervously. “I mean, Leah probably told you ... God, I can’t talk when you’re looking at me like that.”

“Looking at you, how?” I asked, smirking only a little, basking in how uncomfortable she was at that moment. I know it wasn’t nice, but there are some habits or instincts you just can’t ignore, and being a fourteen-year-old guy, watching a girl squirm because she likes you and you’re enjoying it is definitely one of them.

“Like that!” Jordyn giggled.

“I’m just looking at you,” I replied. “Because you’re talking to me. I can look at the television if you want.”

“What, no, I need your eyes all over me!” Jordyn replied quickly, her hands shooting out to grab mine.

“All over you?” I chuckled, and her face went absolutely crimson.

“That um, came out ... uh, wrong.”

“I fucking hope not!” I chuckled, and Jordyn giggled nervously again.

I needed to give Jordyn a little lifeline. As much fun as it was to see her tripping over herself to talk to me, I knew that if I teased her too much, she’d end up chickening out and head up to the hot tub. That, and we didn’t have a whole lot of time because her, “I needed to call my mom and use the bathroom,” excuse wasn’t going to last much longer. Leah knew what was going on, but I wasn’t so sure about Nik. Even if she knew, I wouldn’t put it past her to try to sneak down here and catch Jordyn and me in a compromising position.

“I really like looking at you.” I let my eyes slowly, deliberately scan her body. “All of you.”

“You do?” Jordyn asked.

“Okay, look...” I said, shifting my position so I was facing Jordyn head-on. “Let’s not do the whole, ‘you like me?’ routine.” Jordyn looked stunned at my sudden statement, and not in a way that benefited me. This was the type of look she’d given me before when I was chasing after her; the look that screamed, “Why are you talking to me?”

“Jordyn, you know I like you,” I explained before she could respond or run off. I reached out and gripped her hands in mine. “I’ve liked you for a long time.”

“Umm, me too,” Jordyn echoed, smiling brighter and looking far less nervous and a whole lot more excited at the possibilities.

“Good.” I grinned. “Now, there’s one thing I’ve been dying to do for a long, long time.”

“What’s that?” She sat forward, interested and genuinely curious about what I was going to say.

“This...” I let go of her hand and raised it to her cheek, gently letting my fingers brush across her skin, and leaned forward. I prayed she did the same, knowing what I wanted, and for a second, she didn’t move her eyes wide before she reached out, her lips puckered, and her eyes closed, and our lips touched for a second before I pulled back, making sure I hadn’t gone too far.

When my eyes opened, I found hers sparkling as he looked back at me. I didn’t waste time talking. I kissed her again, harder this time, more urgently. Her lips parted as our tongues danced in our mouths. This time, I wasn’t the one in control. Jordyn took hold of the reins and refused to let them go as we made out with reckless abandon. The kiss only deepened further with each passing moment.

“Alright, you two!” Nik yelled, scaring me and Jordyn half to death. “I think that’s about enough, or someone’s about to lose their V card right here on that dirty couch!”

“Nik!” Jordyn jerked back.

“Seriously?” I said, my own heart racing, but managing to cover the surprise of finding Nik and Leah standing there watching.

“What?” Nik challenged. “Jordyn said she had to call her mom, and we were worried.”

“Bullshit,” I replied, rolling my eyes at her lame excuse. This was a setup, and it had been from the get-go. I was starting to think they had followed Jordyn down here and waited for something to happen and jumped out to scare her.

“I’m going to kill you, Nik!” Jordyn snarled, moving to jump up, but I grabbed her hand and kept her where she was. There was no mistaking how pissed off she was. “You too, Leah. What the fuck?”

“It wasn’t my idea...” Leah looked truly sorry for ruining her friend’s moment.

“Hey...” I grabbed Jordyn’s attention. “Jordyn, look at me.” She did, but her eyes were still hard and she was beyond angry. “That was amazing. Don’t let them ruin it for you. For us.”

Jordyn blinked, taking in my words before a small smile spread across her face, and she gripped my hands back.

She leaned forward and kissed me again. This one was far shorter, but with no less heat than before.

Our lips parted, and both of us were all smiles.

“Gross,” Nik said, making a gagging noise.

“That’s it...” Jordyn broke out of my grip like it was nothing and got to her feet. “You’re dead!”

Nik squealed and took off for the stairs, Jordyn hot on her heels. “Oh, no you don’t, you’re not getting away from me this time, you little bitch!”

Leah gave me a pained look before chasing after her friends, yelling, “Don’t break anything!”

I heard the chorus of footfalls through the ceiling, coupled with laughing and screams. I chuckled as I listened to Jordyn chasing Nik around the house.

“Lucas, get your ass up here and come get your girlfriend!” I heard Leah yell from the top of the stairs. “Preferably before Jordyn kills Nik!”

I took off up the stairs and nearly bowled over my mom, who was standing in the middle of the kitchen, snickering as she watched Jordyn chasing Nik around the house.

“Careful!” Mom barked, barely maintaining her balance as I ran into her.

“Sorry...” I replied sheepishly.

“So, is this...” Mom nodded to where Jordyn and Nik were having a little standoff around the kitchen table. “All your fault?”

“Lucas, get over her and help me!” Leah yelled. Her voice was half pleading, half laughing at the whole situation.

“Don’t you dare, Lucas,” Jordyn snapped. She was furious, and you could see it in her eyes. She was out for blood. “The little beanpole can’t run forever.”

“Why would you think this is my fault?” I asked Mom.

“Seems pretty obvious to me,” she replied. “Girls don’t get worked up that much unless it’s over a boy.”

“Oh.” I grinned sheepishly. “I mean, it’s not all my fault exactly.”

“Mhmm, I don’t believe that for a second, Loverboy.”

“Loverboy?” I groaned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Never mind.” Mom laughed. “Go on, I think your sister could use some help.”

“Why didn’t you help her?”

“And ruin the show?” Mom grinned. “Not a chance. Now, go on, before Nik and Jordyn kill each other.”
