Sarah woke up the next morning, she felt the collar around her neck and felt the embarrassment turn her face red. She couldn’t get the collar off fast enough. Thinking about the fact that she had promised the internet stranger, that she would update him, she decided to wait. She felt unsure about what she wanted.
The day at the office was busy and it went by quickly. Back at home she circled her laptop, but didn’t dare opening it.
Daniel checked the website frequently for new messages from her during the day. He was a bit disappointed, that she hadn’t sent him a message first thing in the morning. But at 6:45pm a message arrived from her. She only wrote that her day had been busy and that she would write later. He was relieved to hear from her. So he pushed hard, but not too hard.
Sarah bought herself some time by sending a short message, telling him, that she would write later.
She was thinking back and forth on what to do next. She had liked what had happened, but she still feels embarrassed too. Daniel felt he had to try. So he wrote and suggested to use snapchat during the day to stay in contact. He even mentioned, that she should change her username in case it gave away anything about her, that she didn’t want to reveal just yet. He waited - all he got was a very short «let me think about that. good night»
Sarah starred at her laptop, at his message and at her last reply. Why did giving him her snapchat username feel like a big thing. As he said, if she changed it to not contain anything personal, it wouldn’t harm.
She opened snap on her phone, went to settings and changed her username to something generic. She took her laptop again and send him a message with only her username «chardonnay123».
Daniel had to laugh out loud. He could image a woman sitting on her couch thinking of a generic username, looking around the room and ending up with the wine in her hand. He added her and wrote «Are you only a wine girl or also a beer drinker?» She replied shortly with only a laughing emoji.
He was a bit disappointed with this evening, but also knew to have the possibility to reach her during daytime was a big step forward. He decided to give her one day with just «how is you day going» messages, before challenging her to a task at the office.
Sarah closed her laptop, looked at his message on snap. He also had a generic username, could be initials or something like that. His little avatar had brown hair and glasses. She felt a bit nervous but also very excited.
The following day at work, she received a message from him on snap asking how her day was going. Her stomach jumped when she first saw his name. A few friendly messages went back and forth. Sarah liked, that they were in contact. She realised, that she was waiting to hear from him.
Later that evening, they also continued to write via the website. Here the conversation was again about their likings, boundaries, experiences.
