Far off, the sound of gulls shrieking from the balcony rail, wakes me to sunlight frying my eyelids. For a second, I don’t know where I am. The bed shifts under my hip, I remember, all at once, the tequila, the laughter. Skyler’s hands pinning my waist, the raw noise he made when he came.

Last night sticks to my skin, salty, warm, the ghost of a fever dream.

The suite’s already full of light, gold in the cracks of the blackout curtains, white-hot where it ricochets off the sea. I squint at the clock—6:17—and groan. My head feels okay, but my thighs ache in a way I haven’t felt in years. Propping myself on an elbow, sheet tangled around my legs, I stare at the boy sleeping next to me.

Skyler sprawls flat, one arm flung over his face, the other knotted in the sheet. He’s out cold, mouth open, hair a mess of salt and sweat. The sun has painted a stripe across his chest, shadowing the line between shoulder and pec. Less like my child-man, he looks older in sleep, more of the man he’s becoming.

A hot, dumb pride swells in my chest, followed by the kind of guilt that rots your bones. Smothering it with giggling. After all, a mother is the best kind of lover for her son.

When I slide out of bed, feet hitting cold tile, and my towel lies balled up on the floor, pink with old lipstick. Skipping it, I head to the bathroom naked. The glass in the mirror reflects a wild animal: hair everywhere, lips swollen, bite marks starting to purple along my collarbone. I might’ve I survived a tornado, having loved every minute.

Rinsing my mouth with hotel Listerine, I scrub my face, and finger-brush my hair into submission. Fishing a white cover-up from my suitcase—gauzy, sheer, with deep V’s in front and back. Dragging a blue bikini bottom up my legs, tie it tight, tug the cover-up on over everything. The combo’s innocent from a distance, X-rated up close. Admiring the effect in the mirror, I twist left, right, and spritz my neck with perfume.

All better.

When I pad back to the bedroom, I throw the curtains wide. Light explodes in, filling the suite with the pure, reckless energy of a new day. Skyler grunts, rolls onto his side, his arm shielding his face. The sheet’s slipped down to his hips. The outline of his morning wood tents the thin fabric, impressive, impossible to ignore. Enjoying the show, I cross my arms watch, tapping a toe.

At last, Skyler awakes, groggy, cute, hair in his eyes.

“What time is it?” he says, voice full of gravel.

“Early,” I say, dropping onto the bed beside him. The mattress dips, rolling us together. Resting a hand on his chest, my palm splayed over his heart. He tenses, but doesn’t pull away.

“Hey, you missed sunrise. It was a good one.”

While trying to process the universe, he squints at me. “Oh, you’re up,” he says, as though it’s a crime.

“Kiddo, I’m always up. You know that.” Tapping his sternum, once, twice. “Especially when there’s fun to be had.”

He shifts, uncomfortable. The tent in the sheet doesn’t budge. If anything, it gets bigger. Staring at it, at him, back again.

A laugh bubbles out of me. “What da ya think, should I make breakfast. Or are you still full from last night?”

Skyler’s jaw tightens. He stares at the ceiling, blood rushing to his cheeks. “We should forget about last night,” he mumbles.

Loudly, I snort.

“Sure, babe. I’ll wipe it from my mind. Total memory erasure. Already forgot.” I trace lazy circles on his chest, nails catching the hair there. “Um, you want me to get dressed, or should I wander the halls in this?” I pluck at the cover-up, let it slide off one shoulder.

He glances at me, away. “Well, Mom, you look fantastick,” he says, voice caught between anger and awe.

Leaning closer, my lips almost at his ear. “Well, sweetie pie, you don’t,” I say, pinching his nipple. He yelps, tries to squirm away, but I climb over him, straddling his thighs, hands pinning him to the mattress. He fights, half-hearted, but I win. Yeah, I always win.

“We’re not supposed to do this,” he says. Giving in, he chuckles, runs his hands up my thighs, fingers light, cautious.

Kissing his forehead, the tip of his nose. “Nobody’s watching.”

Slow and sly, he grins. “Just you.”

Winking.

“Lucky you.”

Sliding down his body, I peel the sheet away, stare at the tent pole poking up through his pajama shorts. Running my nails along his stomach, feeling his muscles flex. “Oh, good, Lord,” he gasps, almost silent, but I hear it.

Hooking a finger under the waistband I pull. That magnificent cock springs free, thick, flushed, leaking at the tip. I wrap my hand around it, stroke slow, watch his face. He bites his lip, eyes glued to my hand.

“You want this?” I ask, voice wicked.

Nodding, but I want to hear it.

“Say it,” I demand.

Clearing his throat, nervous but so hungry.

“Oh, God, yeah,” he says, almost a whisper.

“Yeah, what?”

He flushes deep, but meets my eyes. “Yes, Mommy, I want it.”

“What a good boy.”

Dropping my mouth to the head, I taste the salty heat. Sucking him deep, working my hand in rhythm with my mouth. Hissing, he grips the sheets, arching his back off the mattress. Bobbing up and down, tongue swirling, lips tight, sucking him.

Guttural, desperate, he moans.

“Oh, Mom, this is so fucking good.”

When he tries to hold back, I know the signs. So, I squeeze the base, suck hard, and Sky falls apart. Then he comes in hot pulses, thick salty, I swallow all, to the last drop. Licking him clean, pop off it with a wet smack. Wiping my mouth with the back of my hand, I crawl back up the bed and stretch out next to him.

His chest heaves, skin flushed, eyes glassy.

“We should forget about this,” I say, mimicking his voice. Giggling, I nuzzle his shoulder, and rest my hand on his chest again.

“You’re batshit-crazy.” He laughs, breathless.

“Sure am, and you love it.” Kissing his collarbone. Turning to face me, his blue eyes locked on mine.

“Perhaps.”

Proping up on my elbow, I’m all business.

“Okay. Here’s the plan for today.” For emphasis, I tap his chest. “We get dressed, we hit the lobby for coffee, we take a cab to the marina. There’s a boat waiting for us. A real one, not the rowbot kind. I pulled strings.”

“You rented a yacht?”

Proud, I grin.

“Damn right. All-day charter. No tour groups, no rules. You, me, the Mediterranean.”

Shrugging, as he processes this.

“Sounds fun.”

“It’ll be marvelous,” I say. “And when we get back, we’ll act as if last night never happened. That’s the deal, okay?”

He nods, but his eyes flick to my lips, my chest, back to my eyes. He wants to believe it, but we both know the truth.

Rolling off the bed, I head for the closet. I pick out a white linen dress, a little see-through, and wriggle into it over the bikini. Pulling my hair up, I let a few strands fall around my face, and check the mirror. Yes, sirree, I look better than any man’s vacation fantasy. I add a pop of pink lip gloss for fun.

Skyler dresses gradual, almost as if he’s underwater. Picking khaki shorts, a button-up, and he slides his feet into leather sandals. Missing his underwear. Amused, I watch.

“Ready?” Grabbing my tote bag.

Bob’s his head once, but I can see the tension in his jaw, the way his hands shake when he zips up the bag.

When we head for the door, at the last second, I double back to the dresser. Grabing a bottle of sunscreen, the heavy-duty kind, and I “accidentally” drop it on the floor. It rolls under the bed. Sighing, dramaticly, I bend down to retrieve it, ass in the air, dress riding up high.

It works, his gazing at my ass, I realizse this, when his breath caught. While fishing the bottle out, I take my time and turn to catch him staring. Winking, I toss him the bottle.

“Thinking you’ll need this. The sun here is brutal.”

When he blushes, he tucks the bottle into the bag.

We step out into the hallway, light salt promise waiting on the other side.

I feel alive, electric, ready for anything.

Marina life always turns me on. The heat, the stink of diesel salt, the throb of engines starting up, everything vibrating on a frequency I can’t ignore. We walk side by side down the dock, both in white, both with shades on. A pair of girls in bikinis stare Skyler up and down, giggle, whisper, but he keeps his eyes on the planks underfoot. He’s locked in, ignoring the world, trying to act invisible. I don’t let him.

Our boat waits at the end of the finger, gleaming like a spaceship.

“Azimut,” the man at the helm says when we check in. “You’re Gloria?” His accent thickens the vowels, stretches my name into something soft, dangerous. He eyes Skyler, me, the way our bodies lean together. Chin up, I meet his gaze, smile. He flinches, turns away first. I always win.

A woman in a navy dress ushers us aboard. Deck shoes, not heels, and her calves are roped with muscle. Offering us juice, soda, coffee—I say champagne, she raises an eyebrow, but pops a bottle anyway. It’s not even nine. The sound of the cork ricochets off the water, loud enough that the captain turns to stare.

Stretching out on cushions, we sit bow-side, and suck up the sun the way memory foam does. I shed the linen dress, careful to drag it over my head, letting the bikini underneath do the talking. Skyler watches, mouth tight, but I see the flash of hunger before he can hide it. I toss the dress onto a seat, drape my legs over his lap, and tilt my glass for a refill.

The yacht glides away from the dock, crawling at first, building speed. The city recedes, the shore falls behind, the water flips from navy to turquoise in a single mile. Wind knifes my hair around my face, the sun blazes my thighs, and the sound is doubled by the slap of waves on the hull. I let my head tip back, savor the burn, the little beads of sweat forming at my cleavage.

Skyler keeps his hands on my ankles, but I can tell he wants to move them up, an inch. Never more than two fingers at a time, he sips his champagne. I poke his ribs with my toes.

“You ever think you’d be doing this?” I ask.

Shrugging, he tries to play it cool.

“I guess not.”

Squeezing his thigh with my foot. “You need to learn how to enjoy yourself, babe.”

“I am,” he says, but it comes out coyish. Scooting next to him, I sit up, so our bare shoulders touch.

“Um, we can swim as soon as the anchor drops. And there’s a cave tour this afternoon. You know what that means,” I say.

Unsure if he wants to, Skyler shakes his head.

Leaning in, my lips at his ear. “Swimsuits optional,” I whisper, seeing his body go rigid with hope or terror.

The woman brings more champagne, on a tray with mango, cheese, and a pile of nuts. I pop a grape in my mouth, chase it with bubbly, stretch out again, long and loose. The city vanishes behind us. The only people for miles: two silent crew, Skyler, and me.

Testing the limit, I slide my hand over his knee. He grabs my wrist, but not hard. Wanting this, but the showman in him needs to act surprised. With my fingers brushing his lips, I feed him a slice of mango. He bites it, but also sucks the juice off my knuckles, eyes on mine.

“You’re getting bolder,” I say.

“You’re a bad influence.”

I pat his leg. “You’ll thank me one day.”

The boat slows, engine winding down. We glide into a bay ringed by cliffs, limestone striped with golden streaks. The anchor drops with a clank. Water goes glassy, only the hum of cicadas, the distant ring of a bell buoy.

I grab the sunscreen and hold it up. “Want to do my back?” Sing-songing, I roll over on my stomach. The bikini straps cut deep into my skin, the blue bright against all that white.

He hesitates. “There’s people here,” he whispers.

While staring at the cliffs, I prop my chin on my hands. “Nobody who cares. Trust me.”

He uncaps the bottle, squirts a cold line down my spine. Real this time, I gasp, but let him work it in. His hands get braver, kneading my shoulders, sliding down my ribs, glancing off the sides of my breasts. I don’t stop him. Making the stretch as long and slow as I can, I arch my back.

He lingers at the small of my back, above my ass. His thumbs hook the straps, tease, almost pull them down. I wiggle, playful.

“Think you missed a spot,” I say.
