Since the military and alphabet types had explained that we were basically being treated with diplomatic immunity in regard to this mission. It had raised our concerns about how bad this mission was expected to be.
Obviously insisting on meeting in their country put the situation in a bad starting point. The only good thing about this situation was two of the five countries that bordered Sigharstan the small country we were going to be visiting, were allies and the military had bases in both that could provide emergency assistance if needed. The reality was any help would be at least three hours away if not longer.
Tia, CW3, CSM, MAJ, and the twins worked with the military to establish two or three emergency evacuation plans code named; Damn, Shit, and Fuck depending on how bad the emergency was.
Delta (damn) was basically air support for a ground vehicle evacuation, basically driving out of the country and having air cover. This was the first option and most desirable support wise.
Sierra (shit) was a pickup by helicopter as whatever grid location we could make that a pickup could be made. The situation would dictate if it would be a HOT evac or a simple evac. This was the second option and still allowed for direct support with more exposure.
Foxtrot (fuck) well everyone was hoping we did not need this one. As the code name described, our situation would probably be very bad if we needed this evacuation. This one had the military basically doing a QRF (quick response force) raid into Sigharstan to come and get us out. This could be considered an act of war by an invading country regardless of the fact it would be a rescue mission. Most would see it that way, but all the enemies of the U.S. would call it an invasion and try to make it more serious of a situation.
Pamala was not happy when she was told that her normal entourage would not be allowed to go with her this time. Cari would be her interpreter, Harmony would be her assistant, there would be one female bodyguard with her at all times, and two males as well at the minimum. Everyone else would be as close as possible.
We were hoping to have Monica or another female added to the group as the nurse once Pamala informed them she was pregnant and just wanted the nurse close by in case she was needed. But there was no guarantee they would allow the extra person. It was going to be hard enough to require the three bodyguards to be present at all times.
Pamala had requested her friend be present as well, we hoped this would limit trouble if the leader’s daughter were present. Pamala had talked directly to Hafsa, Adar Hassan’s daughter. She was very excited to know Pamala was coming to help resolve the problems her father was having and also insisted on being present at all the meetings.
Adar Hassan was reluctant to have his daughter present but relented after her continued insistence at being there for her friend.
We were escorted from the airfield where we landed and had the first of many head-butting arguments. The Sigharstan Colonel that met us tried to limit our protection detail to one handgun per member. When he made this statement Tia turned everyone around and started to load back onto the airplane.
When Adar Hassan and more importantly Hafsa heard what the Colonel had said, I could hear him yelling even with him being more than 300 feet away. The Colonel, who if my Arabic was correct, was no longer a Colonel and was also being forcefully removed from the airfield. The next ranking officer was a Major who quickly apologized and directed our group to the three vehicles we would be riding in. Hafsa wanted Pamala to ride with her and her father. Tia and Cari were allowed to ride with Pamala as one bodyguard would always be with her, and Cari was the interpreter of course. Pamala could read Arabic and had a strong speaking knowledge of Arabic, but when someone was speaking too fast she could not follow the conversation well, hence having Cari to ensure she understood and did not misspeak. Adar had a working knowledge of English but did not like to appear uneducated so he used an interpreter constantly.
Adar Hassan understood and said Pamala would be allowed however many guards she felt she needed but the limo did not have room for more than the two extras. Everyone smiled at his comment and the tension relaxed quite a bit.
We really were not expecting any serious trouble but at the same time did not want to leave ourselves exposed and vulnerable. Although Pamala said that if we showed a very strong appearance she would have more influence in the meeting, if we gave in to their demands easily it would make it harder if not impossible for her to do what she was her to do.
We drove to Adar Hassan’s estate, it was huge, it looked more like a fortress, with a kind of castle look. It had an outer wall that was ten feet high and six feet wide which allowed guards to walk on the top circling the entire estate. There were embrasures spaced along the wall providing weapon firing points all along the inter hallway the huge wall was made up of.
There were several support buildings inside the fortress walls. Barracks for the guards, a medical clinic, dining facility for all the support staff and guards, and the main house.
The main house was huge and had three floors. The top floor had six bedrooms, three across from each other with the hallway between all six, each having an ensuite. The master bedroom with a huge master bathroom was on the opposite end of the hallway with the stairwell between them.
The second floor was the main floor where the grand dining room, a great hall for entertaining guests, and a large conference room were located there was a bathroom in each corner for convenience.
The first floor or ground floor was all the support rooms, security, the kitchen, laundry room, utilities for heating, air conditioning, electrical, and hot and cold water.
When it came time to pair up for sleeping arrangements the five males took one room as only two could be resting at any time. It turned out the males preferred to sleep on the floor moving around the room not sleeping in the same spot and nobody wanted to sleep in the bed (known location in the room). This was the bedroom closest to the stairs and to the left of Angel, Kat, Bee, and Dee’s room.
Angel, Kat, Bee, and Dee took a room, again only two would be sleeping at any time. Their bedroom was on the left of Pamala’s bedroom.
Pamala had a room and either Monica or Lisha would be staying with her switching out. Pamala was hesitant at first but quickly allowed them to share her bed, sleeping only!
Tia, Cari, Raini, Harmony, with Monica and Lisha switching out. They took the bedroom to the right side of Pamala’s.
I was in the bedroom to the right of Tia, Cari, Raini, and Harmony’s, by myself but in reality two females would be staying with me, and we would be the QRF team.
Adar Hassan’s master bedroom was on the other side of the main stairwell. There were two guards stationed outside his bedroom at all times.
That first night everyone was slightly on edge, as we did not know what to expect. It turned out everything went well with no problems.
The next morning, we all went to breakfast. All the females were wearing a ballistic shirt that had form fitting Kevlar to guard against stabbing and slashing attacks and provide some protection against small caliber, low velocity rounds.
The males were wearing a similar shirt but also had level III body armor under their shirt and coat which would protect them from most small arms fire. They wore the coat to somewhat hide the SBR each was carrying along with the four magazines at the back of their belt.
Adar’s four guards probably had the same body armor on but were obviously armed since they had a pistol holstered on their belt and a compact rifle slung over their shoulder.
After breakfast Adar explained that the two other group’s representatives would be here shortly. The three groups involved were of course Adar as the current ruler, the religious leadership that was more Islamic anti-western beliefs, and ISIS the local terrorist group that wanted to take over the country.
Neither the religious group nor Adar wanted ISIS to gain power, but both feared them. They would be the wild card in these negotiations.
ISIS brought five people all armed and looking like a tactical team rather than bodyguards, not someone here to negotiate. They did not look like a typical terrorist but were closer to that than someone going to a meeting. The leader was the only one to speak or make demands would be more correct.
