Chapter 12

We remained inside the hidden room, the deep crimson light casting intimate shadows across the padded walls. The rich scent of leather and warm wood surrounded us. I sat beside Nick on the padded bench, my hands clasped tightly in my lap as my heart continued to race.

Nick kept his arm wrapped securely around my shoulders. His voice was low and intimate as he opened up further.

“There was one relationship that mattered the most before you,” he said. “Her name was Kim.”

The name sent an uncomfortable twist through my chest. I immediately imagined her — graceful, experienced, completely at ease in this world.

“We were together for almost two years,” Nick continued, gently stroking my arm. “She was already deeply immersed in the lifestyle when we met. She taught me how to be a responsible Dominant — how to read subtle signals, how to push limits safely, and how to care for a submissive after taking her to her edges.”

He paused, his gaze distant for a moment.

“Kim wanted a much deeper level of commitment than I was ready to give back then. She wanted to surrender almost everything — her daily decisions, her freedom, her entire life — and live completely under my control. I wasn’t ready for that kind of total power exchange. I still wanted balance. A life outside these walls that felt somewhat normal. Eventually, we grew apart. She found someone who could give her the full-time dynamic she craved. We ended things cleanly about a year before I met you.”
