Elliot stepped out of the shower just as the announcement that the missiles had been intercepted, and dead bodies were not to be touched; the military would take care of it. He breathed a sigh of relief, the wet clothes still clinging to his skin like a second layer of flesh.
The rain fell hard outside, a relentless drumming on the sides of the apartment walls and windows, each drop sharp and insistent. The sky was a bruised gray, thick with storm clouds that hung low and heavy, pressing down. He rushed to the balcony, bare feet slipping slightly on the wet wooden floor, his shirt still damp, clinging to his chest. He could see, a body here and there, but nothing dramatic. The phone buzzed once. It was Elizabeth. The name stirred more anger than confusion.
“Hey,” he said, voice low, wary. “You’re at the hotel?”
“I’m at the hotel,” she replied, her tone clipped, guarded. “I need a ride.”
“Is everything ... okay?” he asked carefully.
“I was on the lower floor.” and she stopped herself and added “I Just ... needed a ride,” she said flatly. There was no explanation, only flatness in her tone, like she’d already told him everything that he deserved to know. Elliot clenched his fists. On the day America got bombed and people dead he was paying cabby for Elizabeth.
“yeah, I will be there in 5.”
Elizabeth stood in the pouring rain, her long dark hair plastered to her face as raindrops streamed down her back. Water dripped from her clothing she looked at Elliot’s car and got in, her wet body created tiny puddles on the car’s leather seats as she settled into the warmth inside. She took off her glasses, wiped them with a handkerchief, Despite being soaked through, she was undeniably hot, her skin flushed with a mix of exertion and excitement, her breath coming fast and shallow. Elliot ran his eyes over body discreetly for a second, he was 23 fresh out of law school and she was 32ish but her body is lean but with curves she probably had a six pack.fit but curvy is that even a word.
“drive me to the home,” she says and winces, holding her hand. He looks at her and back at her hand—she has green veins bobbing on her hand like a jack hammer, her neck and the forehead.
“it’s the gas is it not, I need to call the army or the police,” he says, taking in her condition. “Why aren’t you dead?”
“Wait, wait,” she pleads. “Just take me to my home. We can discuss this.” Her words were rushed and labored managing both her body and him. He pauses for a second and thinks he could use the money, he is in debt with the law school and he had always been doubtful about the army and the government.
