She wakes with a gasp, her breath ragged the scent clings to the back of her throat, each inhale a blade slicing through her lungs, in the morning and green fog is gone there are dead bodies of her collogues all around her the stench of blood and dead bodies in the air, she limps and walks out to see fully expectant to see rubble of buildings all around but nothing everything is still standing, the city is pristine and untouched.No crumpled steel, no shattered glass, no smoke rising from rooftops.
Her heart hammers against her ribs. This can’t be real.why is everyone else dead but she is alive?.Then she thinks of Matthew.
She then remembers her husband who was in their country home, she rings her husband. “Matthew ... Matthew? are you there? are you alright?” Her voice cracks
“Yeah. I was in a meeting,” he says. “Just about to wrap up when I heard the news—Iran bombed the U.S. and Saudi targets. The reports said most were intercepted ... but a few ... a few make it through.”
Her hand tightens around the phone “Mathew i got hit, all these dead bodies around”
“call the 911, I will be there once this meeting is completes”
“call the 911?, Mathew i got hit and you want to complete the meeting, are you shitting me”
“Babe they are important clients, what do you expect me leave them and come get you?. call someone from your office to get you. i will be there when i will be there, okay bye”
