Chapter 7: The Epilogue
All of those exposed were sent to facilities for assessment and treatment for the radiation received. While these assessments altered some of the values of radiation received, it was still imprecise, as everyone is different. Regardless, everyone who had served aboard COCHISE was given a minimum two years dirt side appointment.
The fleet ordered COCHISE to be recognized for destroying 102 enemy ships. It startled a lot of people used to seeing one and maybe two digits on the black enemy ships killed award. Both Commander Colla and Lieutenant Commander Colla were awarded the Federation Star for saving Snow Dance and the fleet.
Lieutenant Commander Colla was assigned to the Test Labs for Sensors and Weapons. Commander Colla was assigned to teach classes at Mauna Loa, but within months she requested to be allowed to go into reserve status, citing acute pregnancy as a reason. Her request was granted as Pumr actions had significantly decreased and the fleet had gone on the offensive. The fleet began to eradicate enemy bases in multiple locations that the scout ships identified and they were obviously on the defense now. It was not a very active defense either and eventually when fleet ships showed up at a once major base where the enemy had been jumping across the gap between galaxy arms they received a message repeated multiple times.
The admiral held the attack back while a translation was made with the best software version they had. It was an obvious plea for peace, although all of what was transmitted was not clear, but it seemed to suggest that no military forces were present. It took quite a bit of time to establish reasonable communications which established that these were all females of the species who were support but not combat forces. They had been used for support, ship crew morale and most anything else they could be used for and were not at all inclined to support their old masters. They in fact gave warning of when any of the enemy’s ships were closing, so that Federation forces could deal with them.
