I think you are attractive too. But as long as we work together, we can’t very well do anything about that. For one thing, I wouldn’t dare put you in a position where people would think that there was any favoritism coming from you. I don’t want any. I think you know that. You probably will catch flak over this incident anyway.” Suzy said.
“I can handle that just fine. And I agree with you that we can’t be involved as long as we work together. Let’s hope that’s a long time, because you’re a good worker. I’d hate to lose you.
Don’t take it so hard about Jane. Now that she won’t be around you, she’ll get over it. Maybe she’ll learn something from it, but I doubt it. She strikes me as one of those people who never learn. “ he said.
“I hope she does learn. I feel kind of sorry for her.” Suzy said.
“You’re a good person, Suzy. I’m half tempted to fire you anyway so I could go out with you.” he said, grinning.
“I’m glad you’re only half-tempted. That matches my half-temptation to quit for the same reason. But I need the job, and you need the work done.” Suzy chuckled.
He took her hand and squeezed it gently as they held each other’s gaze. Then he let go and returned to work. That was the only personal contact that they shared at work, and nothing was ever said again about the incident or what they felt at that moment.
Suzy continued to do her work efficiently. She saved her money until she had enough to start college. Mr. Withers talked her into going part-time while she went to school.
At night, she returned home to her sister’s loving arms and lips. Their relationship showed no indication of waning. If anything, it was stronger than ever. The incident with Jane had reigned in Suzy’s inclination for outside relationships for the time being. Jenny felt no such compulsion either at the time. She was doing well at work herself, having graduated college. She helped Suzy with her studies whenever she could. Then there was loving.
Mr. Withers was still pleased with Suzy’s work. Even as a part-time employee, she was a good worker. She came in three times a week in the afternoons. In those three afternoons, she did more than most secretaries did all week. Sometimes he’d ask how school was going and if she was involved in any new relationships.
“Not much time for that between school and here.” Suzy chuckled.
“I know. I just hate to see someone as nice as you miss out on love.” he said.
“I have no intention of missing out on it. I’ve had very rewarding relationships in the past. I fully intend to have the same in the future. Just not now.” she said.
“Well, if the company was bigger and I could afford you when you graduated ... But I don’t really have a place to put you.” he said.
“I know. I appreciate the thought anyway. I’ve still got a couple of years of school, so if you don’t mind my working part-time, we’ll still see each other until then.” Suzy said, sharing a look with him.
“You’re welcome to continue as you are until then. You’d be welcome afterwards, but I just couldn’t afford to pay you what you’ll be worth.” he said. Suzy smiled at him and went back to work.
The next two years passed like lightning. Suzy got her degree in architecture and got a good job offer from a firm in town. She accepted the offer. On her last day with Mr. Withers, she stopped by his office for her final check.
“I hate to lose you. But I wish you the best of luck. You’ve been a good worker, but more than that ... a pretty good friend over the years.” he said.
“I’ve fully enjoyed working here. You’ve been a good boss and a good friend. But I’m not really sorry to be leaving ... here.” she said, handing him a slip of paper.
“What’s this?” he asked.
“My number. We won’t be working together from now on ... so give me a call, okay?” she said, grinning.
“Count on it.” he said, grinning back.
She hugged him and then kissed his cheek and left.
The phone was ringing when she walked in the door.
“Did I wait too long?” he asked.
“No, just perfect.” Suzy chuckled.
“Dinner tonight?” he asked.
“I’d be delighted.” she said.
“Eight o’clock too early?” he asked.
“Let’s make it seven-thirty. We’ve waited long enough.” she said.
“I’ll pick you up then.” he said.
“You don’t have my address yet.” she said.
“Employee records, silly.” he said, chuckling.
“Oh yeah, see you then.” she chuckled.
Jenny got home a short while later. Suzy was in the shower.
Jenny slipped off her clothes and joined her sister, who welcomed her with a deep searching kiss and a giant hug.
“My, I’ll have to stay away all day more often if that’s the welcome I get.” Jenny said, swaying a bit.
“I’m just so happy. Bob asked me out for dinner tonight.” Suzy bubbled.
“Bob?” Jenny asked.
“You know. Mr. Withers, my old boss. We were attracted to each other years ago, but we could never be involved because he was the boss.” Suzy said, soaping her sister’s breasts.
“I’m happy for you, sweetheart. I wish you the best of luck.” Jenny said, kind of sadly.
Suzy looked at her for a moment before she realized it, then she pulled her close to her and kissed her tenderly.
“It’s not like that at all, my love. This is not to replace you. I can never do that. This is in addition to you. I know how you’ve been worried I would never be able to have a normal relationship with a man. Well ... Bob and I have been friends since I first started working there. When that incident with Jane occurred, he stood behind me. He’s not like other men. I told him then that I was bi-sexual. He didn’t bat an eye over it. He’s never said a word about it. He’s the first and only man I’ve wanted to go out with for a long time. That doesn’t mean I will stop loving you. I could never do that. I expect to be making love to you long past the time we’re both wearing dentures. I expect to expire being gummed to death by you!” Suzy chuckled.
“I expect it will be the other way around as I have five years on you.” Jenny chuckled. “I really am happy for you though. I do hope it works out well. But I’m going to keep loving you as long as you let me.”
“So then that’s settled. We will be lovers all our lives. But I still want to go out with Bob.” Suzy said.
“Well, I survived before when I only got to see you once a month. I can do it again. I won’t wait up for you. If you’ve known him that long, I don’t expect there will be many preliminaries. Have a good time, and I’ll see you tomorrow sometime.” Jenny said, hugging her.
“Let’s see, it’s about six now. He’s picking me up at seven-thirty. We’ve got plenty of time.” Suzy said, pulling her into a passionate kiss.
They made love in the shower ... twice. Then Suzy got ready, putting on a sexy dress and doing her make-up.
“Promise me that you’ll dress up for me like that sometime ... you look good enough to eat.” Jenny said.
“You just did.” Suzy chuckled, “But I’ll dress up for you anytime you’d like. I’ll even let you dress me and then undress me.”
“You’re on.” Jenny said.
The doorbell rang.
Suzy pulled Jenny into a last deep kiss, then re-applied her lipstick as Jenny wiped her lips and went to answer the door.
“Hi, you must be Bob. I’m Jenny, Suzy’s sister. She’ll be out in a moment. Please, come in. Sit down if you’d like.” Jenny said, offering her hand.
“Nice to meet you, Jenny. I’ve heard a lot about you over the years from Suzy. Nice to finally meet you in person.” he said, shaking her hand. Jenny had to admit, he was good-looking. She reigned in her heart the moment she realized the thought. That wouldn’t do at all. She motioned him to a seat, but Suzy came out.
“Wow! It’s a good thing you never showed up at work like that. I would have fired you on the spot ... so I could go out with you.” Bob said.
“Thank you. You look nice too.” Suzy dimpled.
“Thank you. Shall we go?” he asked.
“Yes. Let’s do. Good night, Jenny.” Suzy said, hugging her quickly.
“Really nice to meet you, Jenny.” Bob said, shaking her hand again.
Jenny shut the door behind them ... and let out a heavy sigh. Tears were forming in her eyes. She poured herself a drink and then put in a tape of an old movie she could have a good cry to.
“Your sister is pretty too. Any more like you two at home?” Bob asked, as he drove off.
“Nope, just us two. I’m the last issue.” Suzy chuckled, nervously.
She hadn’t expected to be nervous. But Bob was being a gentleman, no longer her boss. He’d opened the car door for her and then shut it securely. She rubbed her palms a bit; they were sweaty. It wasn’t overly warm out.
“This seems kind of strange. I’ve known you for years, and suddenly I’m nervous.” Suzy said.
“Don’t tell anybody, but so am I.” He chuckled.
“I’ve never seen you nervous. Not even in the most important meetings. You always seem to be in control. Always calm, cool, and efficient.” Suzy said.
“Thank you. But I’m not. Not even then. I’m nervous as hell sometimes ... but nothing like this.” He said.
They drove about a block more.
“This is ridiculous. Pull over.” Suzy said.
“I beg your pardon?” He said.
“I said, pull over. Into that dark lot there is perfect.” She said.
Bob was extra nervous now, thinking he had offended her in some manner. He stopped the car, and Suzy jumped out and went around the back. Bob got out to see what the matter was.
“Did I offend you in some manner?” Bob asked, approaching her.
“Heaven’s no. I’m just not going to spend the whole night being this nervous.” Suzy said, moving into his arms.
She lifted her chin, and Bob got the idea. He descended and kissed her tenderly. They pulled back and looked at each other a moment and then kissed again. Suzy gave it about a number seven ... on the Richter scale.
“Mmm, that’s better. We can go now.” She chuckled.
Bob opened her door for her again and then got in and pulled off.
“You spoiled my great plan. I was going to seduce you with my wit and charm and kiss you tenderly in a special spot I had in mind.” Bob mused.
“You seduced me with your wit and charm years ago; just think of it as a delayed reaction. And please, continue on with your plan. I’d hate to mess up a good plan. I just didn’t want to spend the whole night nervously awaiting our first kiss. Now that’s out of the way, we can relax a little.” Suzy said.
“Not totally out of the way, I hope.” Bob chuckled.
“No. Just give me a little time to reset all the breakers you popped on that second one.” Suzy said, rolling her eyes.
Bob laughed. Suddenly he realized he wasn’t nervous anymore.
“You popped quite a few of mine too.” he chuckled, “But it certainly worked. I’m not nervous anymore.”
“No, neither am I.” she said, taking his hand.
They interlaced their fingers. It was a perfect fit. It was a good thing he drove an automatic. They rode the rest of the way to the restaurant in comfortable silence ... holding hands.
Bob opened her door for her again at the restaurant. They kissed again before they went in. Suzy rated that one about a nine-point-five, also on the Richter scale.
“Please don’t let that one spoil your plan either.” Suzy said, softly.
“Never give up a good plan.” Bob said, chuckling as he led her in, holding the door for her.
The restaurant was the nicest in town. They turned heads as they walked in. They made a good-looking couple.
Bob had made reservations before he ever called Suzy. So they were seated right away. The restaurant was on a knoll overlooking the city. The city lights were lovely. The restaurant was dimly lit to just the right level. Bob seated her and then moved to his own seat across the table.
Menus came and Suzy had Bob order for her.
“I trust you.” Suzy said.
“Not too much I hope.” Bob said, surveying the menu.
“Only on the trivial things ... like food.” she said, grinning at him.
He ordered dinner with an appropriate wine. They brought the wine out first. Opening the bottle and handing the cork to Bob. He examined the cork and then swirled the small splash of wine in his glass. He sniffed at it and then sipped. He smiled and nodded to the waiter who poured half a glass for each of them and set the bottle in a chiller on a stand next to the table.
Suzy looked on in admiration. This was the Bob that she knew ... and loved. She realized with a start.
“Another late reaction?” Bob asked, about the little jolt her head took.
Suzy smiled.
“No ... well, I guess so ... It’s not important right now ... I mean ... So tell me about the business. How are you getting along without me?” she stammered.
“Well, I’m afraid it’s been going downhill ever since you left ... this afternoon.” he chuckled.
Suzy blushed.
“You know what I mean. How are the new girls getting along?” she asked.
“They’re doing okay. But I’d rather talk about you. Tell me about your new job.” Bob said.
Being a recent graduate, she was enthusiastic about her new job. She found herself talking all about it. Bob listened patiently, asking just enough questions to keep her talking.
The meal came in several courses as they talked. Suzy sort of ran down about her new job, as she hadn’t started quite yet. She asked Bob why he had never married.
“I had a near miss once. I got jilted pretty hard. Then my father had his heart attack, and I had to take over the business. Since then, I’ve been pretty busy. Other than that one fling with that secretary, I just haven’t been interested much in dating.” he said.
“Seems we both had bad luck with secretaries.” Suzy mused.
“Not totally. I’m here now with you.” he said, taking her hand.
Suzy blushed, but squeezed his hand and kept hers there.
“You know what I mean ... The episode with Jane.” she chuckled.
“Yes, I remember. At first, I thought you were the problem. But you came out and honestly told me what the situation was. It made it a lot easier on me. I didn’t want to lose you ... I still don’t.” he said, softly.
“You’ve never asked me about that. Why not?” Suzy asked.
