A thin film of tears coated April’s eyes as she watched Evan leave the apartment. Her heart longed to drag him back while her mind knew she couldn’t. Letting out a long breath, April blinked away her tears and quickly pulled on her dark blazer. That stupid update wouldn’t finish itself.

She made herself a cup of coffee to go and turned to leave. Her eyes landed on the book, resting on the kitchen table. The book she had left in the bedroom. It failed to surprise her in the slightest. Secrets of the Passionate Arts opened easily, the pages settling near the middle, as if the book had already chosen the place.

“There are those who confine their fire to the spaces the world permits.

Measured in hours. Hidden in routine. Contained in expectation.”

Her brow furrowed as she ran her finger along the page.

“Passion does not belong to the world.

It belongs to those who dare to step outside it.”

The warmth stirred in April’s chest, low and steady.

“To take a name not your own, to meet in a place untouched by expectation is not deception. It is freedom.”

April tilted her head slightly to the side, trying to understand.

“Names are garments. Desire wears none.”

She stared at the words for several moments, trying to figure out the strange book. It had rekindled her relationship, brought her more happiness than she thought she could have. Then it warned them. The last few things they read hadn’t been warnings. The book acknowledged their Hunger. It showed them out to feed it. A smile crossed April’s face. They were going to be just fine.

“Feeling better today?” Lena asked, inviting herself into April’s cubicle and leaning against her desk.

“I felt fine yesterday,” April looked over at her friend with an eye roll.

“Right. Whatever you say,” Lena smirked, arms crossed beneath her breasts. The brunette leaned forward, a frown appearing on her face. “You have something on your lip. April! Is that cum?”

“What? No!” April gasped, taking her compact mirror out of her purse.

“Yeah, that’s definitely cum,” Lena observed while April cleaned her face. “Care to explain yourself, young lady?”

“I, ah, I, well,” the little nerd stammered pathetically, her face bright red, “We were ready for work and I didn’t want him to go, and um, yeah...”

“I approve,” Lena grinned. “Just wash your face next time.”

“I figured with the coffee and everything,” April looked away in embarrassment. “I couldn’t taste it anymore.”

Lena just laughed as she walked back to her own cubicle.

April tried. She really did. The first hour at her desk was mostly normal. Her fingers flew across the keyboard, eyes scanning lines of code, tracing logic, and catching inefficiencies. It was familiar. For most of that hour, she felt relaxed. She felt like her old self again.

Then the warmth started coming back. It was a steady presence that built beneath everything else. Almost like a second heartbeat she couldn’t ignore, spreading heat through her veins. April shifted in her chair, pushing her glasses up her nose before absently flicking her Planet Trek Wars bobblehead.

She fixed a few bugs, refactored a function, and pushed a small update through testing. Progress. It was real progress. Her lips pressed into a thin line of determination as she struggled to focus. Her phone buzzed, a quick glance showing her it was a text from Evan. She told herself she didn’t have to answer right away. Then a second buzz.

Evan: I’m already distracted.

Evan: This is worse than yesterday.

Evan: I can’t focus when I’m not with you.

The warmth in her chest pulsed in response. It wasn’t sympathy or concern; it was recognition. She felt it, too. April swallowed, her thumbs hovering over the screen. She knew she should tell him to focus, that they would see each other later.

April: You’re at work.

She stared at the message after sending it. It felt weak. Like she didn’t even believe it.

Evan: I know.

Evan: I don’t know how to shut it off.

Her hands shook slightly as she tried to remember the book’s warning. The words wouldn’t come back clearly. “Once joined, the flame will seek itself.” That she remembered, but there was more. Something about burning, about being consumed. It slipped away the moment she reached for it.

April: Neither do I. I just want to be with you.

Evan: I miss your face, your laugh, your touch.

The noise from the office no longer mattered. The chatter, the clicking of keys, the sound of someone laughing; all ignored. She told herself she had to work, she had a deadline. She couldn’t keep dwelling. The answer was to focus on her work and see Evan later. The thoughts felt distant somehow. Muted. Like they weren’t really hers.

April: I love you. I want to feel you touching me. I want you on me. In me.

Evan: This is getting bad, April.

The warmth shifted again, growing stronger. It wasn’t just in her chest. Fire flowed through her veins, pulling lower and lower. Her gaze shifted, not to her monitors, but to the edge of the desk. Empty. Of course the book wasn’t there. That didn’t stop its words from reaching out to her, overwriting her thoughts. She could only remember fragments, the lines from the book replacing the rest.

“It belongs to those who dare to step outside it.”

Passion. April’s hands were shaking.

“To take a name not your own.”

She ran her fingers through her hair as she told herself she wasn’t being rational. That one thought was sharp and real. April held onto it, feeling some of her strength returning. It didn’t last. The heat pulsed; in her heart, between her legs. She could feel herself sweating.

“To take a name not your own.”

Everything suddenly clicked. The fantasy Evan had told her about. She had fulfilled it with the schoolgirl outfit, and he wanted to try other scenarios. April understood the book’s words, the exact scenario it was telling her about. Was that it? Was the book telling her what to do next?

Her first thought was she couldn’t do it.

“Names are garments.”

April’s heart beat faster when she realized it wouldn’t really be her. It would be her character. The thought stuck with her, holding her attention. It was a solution. One that might work. The idea of a way forward helped her focus, cooling the sweltering inferno.

“Names are garments.

Desire wears none.”

April: What if we did something different today?

Evan: What do you mean?

Anticipation ran through her, making her smile. Her hands stopped shaking.

“To meet in a place untouched by expectation.”

April: Let’s take a long lunch. Meet at The Noble Star Motel.

The response took a little longer, the typing bubble appearing and disappearing. Rational thoughts in the back of her mind were telling her to put a stop to the plan. She knew it was best for them both to just work. They loved each other and could see each other later. Grown adults didn’t behave the way they were. A few hours apart was no big deal.

Evan: That’s perfect.

Her next message was sent too easily.

April: Bring cash. Go to the ATM and take out at least a few hundred. Trust me.

April: Meet me at the bar by the lobby.

Evan: Okay. Weird, but sure.

Lifting a glass of wine, April took a long sip to relax herself. She had made it to the Noble Star Motel first and was waiting for Evan. She was wearing a black business skirt and a black blazer over a crisp white shirt. A pair of stylish heels let her break five-feet in height. Her wavy blonde hair cascaded down her shoulders, and her black purse was resting on the bar.

An average guy with brown hair staggered over to April, sitting on the stool beside hers. “Hey gorgeous, can I buy you a drink?”

“No, thank you,” April shook her head, smiling politely. “I’m waiting on someone.”

“His loss for leaving you alone,” the guy slurred. He was probably about thirty and was clearly drunk, with stains on his casual clothes. “I’ll keep you company. My name’s Ted.”

“I appreciate the offer, but he’ll be here soon,” April scooted back slightly to avoid the smell of his breath.

“No need to act all polite,” Ted grunted, his eyes red. “He’s wasting your valuable time. I already have a room. How much’ll it take for you to come join me for an hour or two?”

April’s face turned red when she realized he thought she really was a prostitute. The Noble Star Motel lived up to its reputation. It did rent rooms by the hour, so she couldn’t be surprised. For a moment, she considered slapping Ted, but then remembered she was roleplaying. During this long lunch, she was an escort. One who already had a date.

“He already paid for a date in advance,” she batted her eyelashes. “Otherwise, I’d love to. I’m sorry.”

“Lucky bastard,” Ted grunted, struggling to get to his feet while staring at April. “Come back tomorrow, I’d love a few rounds with you. Damn. Fucking hot.”

Before April could say anything, Ted staggered off to find someone else. There was a young lady sitting at a table whose tits were practically falling out of her dress. Ted sat beside her and the woman smiled at him in recognition. A few words were all it took for her to stand and accompany him out of the bar.

“There you are,” Evan sighed with relief, taking the stool Ted vacated. “Okay, I got a room for two hours to be safe.”

“Oh, hi cutie,” April purred, placing her elbow on the bar and resting her cheek on her hand. “You looking for a date?”

“Uh, sorry?” he frowned in confusion.

“Play along, idiot,” she hissed quietly. “You are hot, but I’m not a cheap date.”

“Wha- oh!” Evan’s eyes widened in understanding before a happy grin split his face. “So, ah, what would it take for you to come back to my room with me?”

“Depends what you’re looking for, honey,” April’s green eyes sparkled mischievously from behind her black-frame glasses. “It’s one-fifty for a quick lay. Another hundred if you wanna slap me around. I’ll go down for fifty. Extra twenty to swallow. Anal’s two hundred. For four hundred I’ll do anything and everything.”

“Hm, my wife will get suspicious if I take too long,” he frowned, really getting into the roleplay. “But, you’re just too fucking sexy. Four hundred it is. Let’s go, slut.”

“Nuh-uh,” April shook her finger at him. “Show me the money first.”

“Right, okay,” Evan nodded, taking out his wallet and showing her the bills.

“You just bought yourself a date,” the little blonde declared, downing the last of her wine.

They started making out in the elevator, with Evan shamelessly squeezing her boobs and grabbing her ass. As soon as the doors opened, they rushed down the hall to the right room. Evan opened it and led them inside. April was about to pounce again, but Evan started counting out the money. She blushed slightly when she took it and put it in her purse.

Thirty seconds later April was on her knees on the dirty carpet of the sleazy motel. Evan’s cock was buried in her throat as her eyes watered and drool ran from her lips. She was still fully-dressed in her business attire as Evan held her head and roughly fucked her face.

April could tell how hot the roleplay was making Evan, and she was more than happy to play the part of the cheap whore. He pulled his cock from her mouth and slapped her face with it while she moaned and tried to suck on it. Then he jammed the whole thing straight down her throat and held it there.

The glasses stayed on as Evan pulled April to her feet and dragged her over to the bed by the hair. The blazer was removed, and Evan quickly worked the buttons of her white shirt. With a quick yank, April’s bra was pulled beneath her tits so he could suck on her nipples while she cooed.

Picking April up by the waist, Evan tossed the petite woman onto the bed. He was immediately behind her, rolling her onto her hands and knees. April moaned her encouragement as he lifted her skirt and yanked her underwear down to her thighs. He was so overwhelmed by desire, it took a couple attempts to find the hole and press inside.

“Yes!” April wailed, fingers clenching the disgusting sheets. “Fuck me! Fuck my pussy!”

“Are you my little slut, babe?” Evan asked, spanking her hard before pounding her roughly.

“Yes! Oh God, yes!” the small nerd gasped. “Fuck my slutty cunt! I’m a whore! Your whore! Fuck my holes! Give me your cum! Oh God, I’m cumming! Ah! Ah! Ah!”

He put a hand on her upper back, shoving her face-first onto the bed and hovering over her as he pumped her tight tunnel. Then he pulled out and pulled her face to him by the hair so he could shove his dick in her mouth. A minute later she was on her back with her legs in the air, her little boobs jiggling.

Finally, they went back to doggystyle. April couldn’t stop cumming. Her entire body was on fire as electricity shot from her clit and consumed her entire being. The entire world consisted of her pleasure. Nothing else existed. Nothing else was needed.

“You like that, slut?” Evan hissed, holding her head back by the hair. “You like being used?”

“I love being your slut! I’m a dirty bitch for your cock!” April screeched, her eyes rolling back. “Fuck me, use me, take me! OWN ME!”

“I’m gonna cum in you,” he grunted, his thrusts growing erratic. “I’m gonna fill you ‘till it’s leaking out.”

“Cum! Cum in me!” April squealed, losing all sense of reality as she felt the first warm spurts fill her. “I’m your little whore, I’m your little whore, I’m your little whore!”

Her world went black.

April barely remembered the drive back to Helios. One moment she was with Evan, the next she was back at the office. It felt wrong. She grabbed her bag and stepped out of the car, forcing herself to behave normal as she walked. The cool breeze between her legs didn’t help. Evan had kept her underwear, and April realized she might have missed a few drops of semen when cleaning up.

Adjusting her blazer, April returned to her cubicle. A few people glanced up, but no one acted any different then normal. Still, April felt like they knew. She told herself she was being ridiculous as she sat down and turned on her monitors. It was time to get back to work.

“April?”

Her stomach dropped as she turned and faced her manager. “Yes?”

“Can you come by my office for a minute?” he asked, his expression neutral.

“Yes, of course,” she nodded.

He sat behind his desk, facing April who felt even smaller than usual. “I’ll keep this quick, April. You were gone quite a bit longer than your allotted break.”

April opened her mouth and closed it without saying anything.

“I’ve also noticed your usual meticulousness has been absent this week,” he continued. “Missed follow-ups. Delays in reporting issues. It’s not like you.”

“I know, I’m sorry,” she mumbled quietly. “I’ve been, well, I haven’t felt like myself lately.”

He studied her for a moment, not angry or yelling. That was almost worse. “I’m not trying to be a hard-ass, but we do have a deadline. We’re on schedule, but that could change. I need to know I can rely on you.”

“You can,” April responded quickly. “You can count on me. I’ve got it under control.”

“You’ve never let me down,” he smiled. “Look, I know deadlines can be stressful. We’re all human, so I’ll make you a deal.”

“A deal?” she frowned slightly.

“Hassan can handle the final testing just fine on his own,” her manager explained. “Finish your part by tomorrow, and how about you take Friday off? A long weekend to recharge. Come back fresh on Monday.”

A three-day weekend with Evan? April immediately perked up. “Yes! Thank you. That would be great. I’ll stay late tomorrow. Whatever it takes. And I’m sorry again about this week.”

“No need to apologize,” he shook his head. “I know you’re a hard worker. I just like to bring up any potential issues early. If you ever need any support, my door is always open.”

“Thank you,” she smiled softly.

April sincerely hoped her boss didn’t notice the white fluid running down her leg. She made a quick trip to the bathroom to properly clean herself before returning to her desk. Her expression was neutral as she sat and listened to the office noise: keyboards, whispered conversations, ringing phones. It was normal.

She looked at her monitors. The code was still there. Waiting. Unfinished. Important. Her fingers rested on the keys as she started typing. April knew she needed to fix things. She was falling behind. Her thoughts were logical and reasonable, but they still felt like they weren’t fully a part of her. Something was keeping them distant.

“Rough meeting?” Lena asked from behind her.

April spun her chair and saw Lena leaning against the edge of the cubicle, arms crossed. “It wasn’t bad.”

“That’s not a no,” Lena raised an eyebrow.

“I was gone too long,” April shrugged. “It’s fine, I’m not in trouble.”

Lena pushed off the cubicle and stepped closer, lowering her voice. “Okay, what’s going on? You were glowing Monday. Yesterday you looked like you were using caffeine to get over a hangover. Today?” Lena gestured. “You look like you got kicked in the cooch.”

April opened her mouth to answer and paused. What was she supposed to say? That she couldn’t think straight without Evan near her? That her body felt like it had something inside that she couldn’t shut off? That an old book she didn’t understand was somehow controlling her?
