Then next morning there was a commotion as several of the unmated males were arguing over mates. The arguing brought Gogon, Wenok, and their mates along with me and my mates around those who were arguing. Most of the village was also outside their huts watching and listening to the arguments.
Gogon called a halt to the arguing and had all the single males move to a line to his left and take a seat on the ground. Then he asked all the single female move to a line to his right and take a seat there. Once both groups were seated he called Eble forward to confirm that all the single females were indeed old enough to be mated.
Basically where they mature enough to get pregnant and safely birth a child. Some females mature much faster than others and some females are not grown enough to safely birth a child even if they have reached womanhood.
The males were much easier to determine if they were mature enough. If a male could prove he was capable of supporting a family as in being able to provide food, shelter, and most of all protection then he was deemed old enough and mature enough to take a mate. With the introduction of the bow and X-bow a male was able to provide food and protection at a much younger age and even a smaller build than what used to be required. They still had to be mature enough to be interested in a mate.
There were eight single males mature enough and more than ready to take a mate. Sobel the oldest at 22 years and Limla the youngest at 17 years.
For the females there were nine mature and grown enough to safely birth a child. There was one 17 year old Gala who Eble said was still too small to mate much to her dismay and embarrassment. The three 14 year olds were also to small and in my opinion too young yet to be mated. What shocked me was the two 15 year olds were both mature and grown enough to be mated. Razna was not so much a shock as she looked more like a 20 year old than 15, Hitla did in fact look like a 15 year old but carried herself like a true adult. Ayalla, Rooka, and Viola were all in their 20s and more than ready to mate.
