"Happy birthday!" Violet declared when we woke on Saturday morning.

"Thanks."

"Lie back!"

I wasn't about to object as Violet moved so she could give me a very sexy birthday blowjob, after which we shared a searing French kiss.

"Me swallowing was your birthday present!" Violet teased as we got out of bed.

I chuckled, "Not the blowjob?"

"You know I'm teasing! I also know you won't object if I don't swallow, even if you don't like it."

"At this point, it's meh," I replied.

"Good to know!" Violet teased as we got into the shower.

"I'm curious about that, actually," I said. "Does it turn you on?"

"I can't speak for other girls, but for me, it shows me how much you love me," Violet said. "That's way more important than anything else."

"Are you happy?" I asked as we washed individually while sharing the shower.

"Absolutely! Did you think I wasn't for some reason?"

"No, but as I see it, it makes sense to ask now and again to make sure we stay on track in our relationship."

"You don't think I'd tell you?"

"I do, but sometimes there are little things people don't mention, and those can balloon into bigger things if they aren't resolved."

"I honestly can't think of anything," Violet said. "You know my only real concern is not wanting anyone at Spurgeon to know about us; well, besides Bianca and Jack, obviously."

"And Ellie, when she starts," I said, "though she's not a concern any more than Jack or Bianca are."

"Let it be until our conversation in January, please," Violet said. "We're going to have a baby together, and I'm very happy with how things are going. Did you ask because you're unhappy?"

"No. I'm very happy with how things are going, both with you and with work, not to mention how successful Deanna, CeCi, and Erin are."

"Will you be able to help CeCi get a full-time job in Hollywood when she graduates?"

"I have the right contacts, so I think so, but as with all things, you never know."

We got out of the shower, dried off, and dressed. We went downstairs, where Bianca and Nicole were making breakfast, and Chelsea was watching Sofía. I picked up Sofía from the rug by the sectional sofa, and she smiled, cooed, and gurgled. I held her and talked to her until it was time for breakfast, when I put her in her high chair.

"Chelsea and I will do the grocery shopping," Deanna said after we started eating. "We'll also take your suits and shirts to the dry cleaner."

"What am I permitted to do on my birthday?" I asked with a grin.

"Well..." Bianca smirked, causing Violet, Nicole, and Deanna to laugh.

"You can play with Sofía," Chelsea said innocently.

All the girls laughed again.

"I believe Bianca was implying playing with the other girls here!" Violet exclaimed.

"Pin the tails?" Bianca smirked.

Chelsea blushed, and I debated my response. I had discussed it with Bianca, but I also didn't want to push Chelsea too hard, too fast.

"That might be a bit over the top," I said with a grin. "Not that it wouldn't be fun!"

"I'm pretty sure sex is NOT a spectator sport!" Violet declared.

"Pretty sure?" Bianca asked with a smirk. "So it's possible that it is?"

"That's a question I'd expect from Jonathan!" Violet declared. "I'm certain!"

"Me, too," Chelsea said. "I would never."

"You know my story," Bianca replied.

"My first time with a guy was a threesome with a girl," Nicole said.

"In this condo," I said, "even if nobody else in the world does so, we don't impose our values on each other. A corollary to that is that we accept each other, and we tolerate things that might be outside our comfort zone. That said, we also don't give intentional offense."

"Can I get a concrete example?" Nicole asked. "I'm not trying to stir up trouble; I'm simply curious."

I nodded, "CeCi has made no secret of wanting to re-enact the pool table scene from Insatiable. Doing that when nobody was here, or when Bianca, Deanna, or Nicole were here, would be OK. Doing that when Violet or Chelsea were here would not. That would be intentional offense; unintentional offense would be doing it and having one of them walk in unexpectedly."

Violet rolled her eyes, "Of course CeCi would!"

"Violet, don't you think watching might be exciting?" Nicole asked.

"I'm going to give a Jonathan answer — I wouldn't want anyone watching me, so I wouldn't feel right watching someone else, either live or on videotape."

"Not the question I asked!" Nicole declared mirthfully.

Violet shrugged, "I have no idea; it might be, but I'm not going to find out."

"That's a perfectly valid response," I said.

"Jonathan can tell me to shut up," Nicole said, "but Violet, would you engage in a threesome?"

Violet shook her head, "No. It's also a two-person sport. I'm not judging, and I know Jonathan has done that, and that's his choice. I'm not bothered by it; just don't ask me to do it."

"I agree with Violet," Chelsea said. "I also think you have to be careful about conversations like this in front of Sofía."

"It's a delicate balance," I said. "I'm not going to shelter her to the point of being ignorant, but I'm also positive she will be singularly uninterested in her dad's sex life!"

All the girls laughed.

"I'd say that's true of every kid," Deanna observed. "But there's nothing wrong with discussing it in a general way, and at an appropriate age, she'll need complete information about sex, birth control, and everything else that goes along with it. It'll be up to Jonathan and Bianca, but in my mind, that's no later than about age ten."

"It has to be before puberty," I agreed. "I know first-hand the effects of hormones and how that can lead to risky behavior! Bev and I were very lucky."

"You, uhm, didn't use birth control?" Chelsea asked, blushing slightly.

"No. Bev surprised me with our first kiss, and five minutes later, we were no longer virgins. We made sure by doing it several more times that night. I didn't even think about it until afterwards."

"Five minutes?!" Chelsea asked.

"Five minutes. On her sixteenth birthday, she kissed me, ran her hand over the front of my jeans, and the rest was, as they say, history."

"That's just ... I'm not even sure what that is!"

"Hormones!" I declared. "A pretty girl kissed me, stuck her tongue in my mouth, rubbed my dick through my jeans, and nature took over. I challenge you to show me a seventeen-year-old boy with a pulse who would have done anything different."

"The very definition of the empty set!" Bianca declared. "Well, making allowances for gay guys, but for them it would be the same, just a partner of the same sex."

"Now that's just gro ... uhm, sorry," Chelsea said.

"Another thing that's true about this condo," I said, "is that we don't judge, except with regard to hypocrisy or stupidity. It's OK to discriminate or look down on hypocrites and idiots, and those two sets seriously overlap."

"But isn't there right and wrong?" Chelsea inquired.

"Yes," I replied, "but there are very few absolute truths. Nearly everything has nuance or shades of grey."

"Murder?" Chelsea asked.

"Murder is a very specific legal definition of unauthorized killing. Killing someone has all manner of shades of grey, which is why there are various charges from involuntary manslaughter to first-degree murder, not to mention self-defense or war. The same goes for pretty much any crime — the same act can be legal or illegal depending on a host of circumstances. I'm fairly certain that any act you can think of has grey areas."

"But you redefined it!" Chelsea objected.

"Not at all! Even if we limit it to murder, there are nuances, which is what I said — nuance or shades of grey."

"Adultery?" she asked.

"If someone is legally separated from their husband and in the process of divorce, is that the same as cheating on their spouse? I don't mean technically, I mean ethically?"

"Yes, because you're still violating your vows."

"Vows which you've repudiated and are simply waiting for the government to acknowledge," I countered. "In my mind, the marriage ended once the divorce papers were filed. Or, let's take a different example. Let's say a husband and wife agree, before they married, that they could have sex with other people. That's technically adultery, but it's not cheating, so is it really adultery?"

"Nobody would do that!" Chelsea protested.

"One of my mom's friends is in an open marriage," I countered. "That friend and her husband have sex with anyone they want, and neither of them is cheating."

"That's SO wrong!" Chelsea protested.

"Then you should stop fucking Jonathan," Deanna said firmly. "I mean, if you think it's wrong to have sex with other people when you're in a relationship."

"But he's not!" Chelsea protested.

"Really?" Deanna asked. "What's different between him and his mom's friend, except for the piece of paper from the government? He's absolutely in relationships of varying degrees with Violet, Bianca, CeCi, and me, and Nicole through Bianca. If Jonathan's mom's friend and her husband didn't have the piece of paper, how would that be different?"

"Because they're married!" Chelsea protested.

"They absolutely did not vow to 'forsake all others' according to my mom, who was at their wedding," I said. "So what, exactly, are they violating?"

"But marriage is one man and one woman!" Chelsea protested.

"Yes, and they are married to each other, one man and one woman. They just agreed, before they married, they could fuck anyone they wanted."

"You're OK with that?" Chelsea asked incredulously.

"Does it matter?" I asked. "I'm not in that relationship, and I have zero interest in having sex with my mom's friend, so it has exactly zero effect on my life, and does me no harm in any way, shape, or form. I am the last person to judge in that regard, given Keiko and I had agreed to marry when Sofía was conceived, and I certainly wasn't married to Bianca! My mom was never married to my dad, and I'm actually a product of events very similar to mine with Bev, though I'm fairly certain my dad was aware of what my mom wanted! I was clueless about what Bev wanted until she kissed me!"

All the girls except Chelsea laughed.

"That's Jonathan's entire point about not judging," Nicole observed. "It's why Bianca and I can be together, and nobody says anything, and why the Boys all feel comfortable hanging out with us."

"I do need to add one modification," I said. "It is absolutely OK to condemn evil acts and to judge the perpetrators. I won't name names, historical or otherwise, because I don't want to get too deep into the discussion. Hypocrisy, stupidity, and evil are all fair game. Sex outside of marriage, or sex with an audience, or an open marriage, or choice of sex partners, or whatever, are not. So long as there is consent on both sides, it's nobody's business except the people involved.

"You can extend that to just about everything in life. So long as everyone involved in the activity consents, it's, generally speaking, none of anyone else's business. It's only when what you do interferes with someone else's right to be left alone and to do as they please that they have the right to concern themselves with your actions. Fundamentally, everyone just needs to butt out of other people's business."

"AMEN!" Deanna exclaimed.

"Don't you have all kinds of rules you have to follow, no matter what?" Chelsea asked.

"Yes, and in every single case, those regulations are about dealing honestly with my clients and my counterparties, and not lying to the government. There are always bad actors, and the regulations are there to make it clear that bad actors will lose their licenses and likely be fined or imprisoned. There are also reporting rules that are important for an orderly market. That said, nothing prevents two people from meeting at Venice Café and trading stocks in private.

"That's the basic concept behind the founding of the New York Stock Exchange. Similar to those men, I can conduct business privately, and it's perfectly legal. I've traded privately, off the exchange, to buy large blocks of stock without tipping off the market that I'm making a move. As I said, that's completely legal, provided I follow the proper procedures and refrain from trading outside my authorized accounts or making use of illegal inside information. I'm happy to comply with the rules because I have no intention of cheating my clients or the public."

"I don't know," Chelsea said. "I still think there are some things that are just wrong."

"So don't do them," Deanna said firmly. "To press a hot button, if you don't like abortion, don't have one. Problem solved."

"What?!" Chelsea exclaimed in outrage. "It's murder!"

"Actually," Nicole said, "it's not. As was said earlier, murder has a clear legal definition, and abortion does not fall under that definition, nor can it, according to the Supreme Court, because women absolutely have to have bodily autonomy. Well, unless you believe we're chattel and are property of the man who impregnated us. It would be just as wrong to allow a man to force a woman to have an abortion as it would be to force her to carry a pregnancy to term against her will."

Chelsea shook her head, "You're playing word games! Just because some judges decided it was OK to murder babies doesn't mean it's not murder!"

"Technically, it does," I countered. "You're trying to make a moral argument, which is fine, but Nicole is right about the law and the ethics of compulsion."

"I can't believe you all believe it's OK!" Chelsea protested.

"It actually doesn't matter if I think it's OK or not," I said. "I'm not the pregnant woman, and it's not up to me what she does with her body. I am in absolutely no position to make that decision. Now, if one of you were to get pregnant, I'd voice my opinion if asked, but in the end, I would have to defer to you to make the final decision."

"You said it was OK to judge evil, and murdering a baby is always evil!" Chelsea declared.

Violet touched my arm, indicating she wanted to answer.

"You don't know my history," Violet said quietly. "My dad repeatedly raped my older sister, and my mom was complicit and supported him. When he was arrested, I went into foster care, and my sister went into the hospital. They discovered she was pregnant, so they performed an abortion. Because of the rape, her psyche snapped, and she had to be committed to a mental hospital, and they're certain she won't recover. I stopped visiting her because she had no idea who I was. Should she have been forced to have my dad's baby?"

The silence was deafening, and I was reeling because I hadn't been aware of the pregnancy. Violet had no reason to tell me, and it wasn't my business, but it drove home just how evil the situation had been. I couldn't begin to fathom the idea of Violet's sister being forced to carry her father's baby to term. It was nearly a minute before anyone spoke.

"But the baby didn't do anything wrong," Chelsea said quietly.

"I don't think we're going to make any progress on this topic," I observed. "It might be best to just let it be."

"I agree," Violet said, "though I do want to add that my parents locked me in a cage while they abused my sister, and it was clear I was next when I reached puberty. It took me some time to work up the courage to tell my counselor at school what was happening, and I was in counseling for years. Jonathan met me while I was still seeing the psychiatrist, but I was mostly off all the medication. He helped me overcome what had happened."

"I'm sorry about what happened to you," Chelsea said quietly.

We finished our meal, and after the girls cleaned up, Deanna and Chelsea left to do the grocery shopping.

"Chelsea is really upset," Bianca observed.

"There isn't a middle ground from her perspective," I said. "It's a binary decision, and there is no room for any compromise."

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you that part before," Violet said.

"You had literally no reason to," I replied. "It was none of my business, though it did drive home just how evil the situation was, not that I needed any reminders."

"Violet," Bianca said, "changing topics, what's your view on being naked in front of other people? You know, like in a steam room or shower?"

"Because of what happened, I was never in that kind of situation. Except for when I was a baby and my doctors, nobody but Jonathan has ever seen me naked. I'm totally comfortable with being naked with Jonathan, and the mirrors are awesome, but otherwise, I just don't think I would. Honestly, I suspect at least part of it is because I saw my dad having sex with my sister, which is why it took years before I could even contemplate having sex with Jonathan."

"I can't even imagine," Bianca said, shaking her head.

"You don't want to," Violet replied.

"Is it OK to ask what happened?" Nicole inquired.

"My mom and dad went to prison, but my mom got out because of some kind of plea deal to give evidence about my dad. She's forbidden from having any contact with me of any kind. My dad will be eligible for parole in 1995, but I'm going to oppose it."

"And I'm going to help," I said. "If necessary, I will spend every penny I have to keep that bastard in prison for the rest of his life."

"A prisoner with a shiv would be far more cost-effective," Bianca observed.

"It would, but I oppose capital punishment, and I can't be party to a murder. Speaking of which, I was shocked that North Carolina executed a woman yesterday. She was the first since the mid-60s."

"She murdered a bunch of people, right?" Nicole asked.
