Prologue

Nuri walked along the main hall of the long abandoned Aepluszara Temple. The sound of her heels echoed among the massive stone columns and worn frescoes. She approached the ancient altar carefully, her hips swaying. She placed a large bowl upon the altar.

The red-skinned priestess filled the bowl with the materials needed for the craft of vision: moonbrass, dazzling bark, and fazhite. She took a deep breath and lit the concoction. The bowl flared with fire for a moment and then began to smoke, the area around the worn altar filling with orange smoke.

In the billowing vapor Nuri focused her mind and stretched her arms out, dropping to her knees. She inhaled the smoke deeply and felt it’s influence flow through her shapely body. She pushed back her mane of thick black hair and began to chant.

As the thick surrounded her and relaxed her body she ended her incantation with the words: “I call upon the Desire, that which surrounds and binds all of life together. I call upon the male and the female, the brother and the sister, the husband and the wife, and the lovers. Come to me!”

Energy seemed to crystallize around the priestess. Nuri swayed as she continued to chant: “Desire, the greatest of powers in the galaxy. Desire, the feminine and masculine, Desire, the might that can shatter planets, Come to me!”

Nuri felt a presence, and then a second. She paused.

“We are here child,” said a female voice that seemed to echo in the crumbling halls of the temple.

“Both of us are here,” said a male voice. It was deep and no less powerful than the first voice.

“I call upon you for aid. Please hear my plea! The Vorluuk plagues this world. It destroys our livelihoods, terrorizes the people, and seals us to this world. Please help me!”

“Know child that we have seen your struggles,” said the female voice.

“We share your pain,” said the male voice.

“Then help us please!” responded Nuri. “We lack the strength to defeat the Vorluuk. It is a force of the pulsar – we cannot stop it.”

“Child, you say you lack the strength,” began the female voice.

“Perhaps you lack the faith,” finished the male voice.

“I beseech you ... please. It is true that perhaps I alone still recognize the might of the Desire but others should not suffer –”

“For their lack of faith?” asked the male voice.

“Yes,” said Nuri weakly.

“You would question the will of Desire?” asked the female voice.

“I this case ... yes,” said Nuri, with more conviction.

“We can sense your courage, child,” said the male voice.

“The Vorluuk cannot be destroyed by our hand,” continued the female voice.

“Then we are lost,” said Nuri, softly.

“No child,” said the female voice. “When your need is greatest heroes will appear. Perhaps they are upon your world already.”

“You are not alone,” said the male voice.

The power of Desire faded then, leaving Nuri alone. The thick smoke began to fade. The consumables in the bowl were gone. She pushed her hair behind an ear and looked around as the energy left her. She spotted light and shadows playing off the ancient walls of the Temple. Someone was coming.

Nuri ran to the entry of the temple as quickly as she could. A small knot of men bearing torches were approaching. They were lead by a tall man in armor with a rifle strapped to his back. Nuri recognized Revard, the settlement’s Guardian. There were several other warrior types with him.

“Priestess Nuri –”

“What news Revard? Did the Vorluuk appear? There ... there are so few of you.”

“Yes Nuri,” continued the warrior. “The beast came out of the darkness. We attempted to fight it but we failed.”

“It took five men!” said one of the other fighters.

“Brave men,” continued Revard. “We tried to save the AG Station south of the spaceport but it was destroyed.”

“There is only one AG Station left,” said Nuri.

“Yes,” said Revard. “One left, and without them –”

“No more food processing, no more power, we will starve,” said Nuri grimly.

The priestess looked back at the ancient temple. Help is coming, she thought to herself.

Part 1: Planetfall

Oozmara stifled a giggle as I lead her into the refresher of the Solar Temptress. We were both naked. OG-91 and PIPER were in the cockpit and Zayna was sleeping soundly in the crew area, still recovering from her injuries.

“I feel like we’re being naughty,” said Oozmara.

“We’re not, girl,” I said. “I just don’t want to wake up Zayna.”

We kissed as I closed the door behind us. I felt Oozmara visibly relax in my arms. “I need to really thank you personally for saving me from Princess Cosmica, Oozmara.”

“It wasn’t anything, Ace,” she responded.

“I really think you are going to enjoy this.” I started the shower going.

The purple slimewisp held her hand out into the warm water. “Oh! That feels nice.”

We continued to kiss as I let the refresher heat up. Oozmara was always a bit cool to folks like me; her body temperature was slightly lower than that of a human. I knew she didn’t like dry heat but a nice warm shower...

My hands meandered across the smooth soft curves of her back, waist, and rounded ass. Oozmara’s hands were around my neck. I felt her grab the back of my head. Her tongue was especially aggressive as it swirled around mine. I could feel her substantial tits against my chest.

Suddenly I lifted her up and placed her in the shower. She made a small feminine yelp and smiled. I joined her a moment later. There was enough room in the shower to hold both of us and allow some movement but not enough for a lot of sexual acrobatics. I activated the weak force screen that served as a shower curtain a moment later.

“Ace,” said Oozmara, “This does feel great!” She spun slowly in place as the tumbling water flowed over her. “I’ve only had it set on cold before.”

“I thought you would like it girl,” I said. Plenty of water was splashing on me and it was comfortably warm. “Do you want it warmer?”

“Uh huh,” responded Oozmara. She had switched her attention to my dick, which was rapidly getting hard. She was massaging it with both hands. I pulled myself closer to Oozmara and slightly upped the temperature of the water.

Oozmara smiled and looked up at me. The shower spray was now striking both of us now, caressing our skin. “I like this, Ace. It’s really comfy.”

I wrapped an arm around Oozmara and sent my other hand across her tits, massaging, squeezing, and playing with her nipples. We kissed deeply as the warmth and steam surrounded us. I heard Oozmara moan slightly and she moved her head back slightly, closing her eyes. Her body shuddered slightly. I felt her sexual energy increase.

“Ace,” she moaned. “I want to suck your cock.”

I drew away a bit and smiled, placing a hand on Oozmara’s shoulder as she lowered herself to a squat, spreading her own legs and opening her pussy. I placed my other hand on the wall. The feeling of the warm water was luxurious as Oozmara’s mouth engulfed my dick.

The slimewisp could easily accommodate my length and girth when she wanted to instead she worked slowly, sucking and licking the first three inches as she held it’s base and cupped my balls. She paused and then continued, twice inhaling the first half of my cock.

“Oh ... Oozmara!” I groaned, slightly buckling.

A moment later Oozmara changed it up, opening her mouth and engaging my balls. She managed to get both gonads into her jaws and she sucked hard. I felt myself shake and my own pleasure centers responded with explosive energy. I tried to ease Oozmara away.

She responded, rising as the water continued to splash around us. She smiled and I kissed her gently. “You’re so sweet Ace,” she said softly between smooches. By then I had maneuvered a hand into the warm space between her legs and found her pussy. I dragged a finger along her slit, slightly penetrating her, feeling her clit, and then the juices that came from within.

Oozmara moaned and quivered in my arms. She suddenly spun around and bent over, placing her hands upon the wall and presenting her exquisite ass to me. The warm water tumbled off her smooth purple body. I took the opportunity to kneel and embrace her pussy. It was wet, soft, and warm as I licked it, parting the delicate folds, and getting my tongue in as deep as I could. Her juices were delicious.

“Ace! Ohhh ... ohhh ... god!”

I felt Oozmara shake as an orgasm ratcheted through her body. I rose and she arched her back hard, twisting to meet me in a kiss. Her face was hovering in the afterglow of her orgasm. As I kissed her I eased my rod into her soft opening. It slid into her alluring private opening easily.

She shook again and pulled away. I grabbed Oozmara’s hips and started to pump her interior. The purple slimewisp responded by tightening her pussy, it’s smooth interior adding pleasurable pressure to my cock and increasing Oozmara’s internal sensations. Her reaction was dramatic. He back arched again and she involuntarily slammed a fist against the wall and clenched her teeth.

I moderated the strength and speed of my penetrations, trying to hold my own orgasm in while focusing on tipping Oozmara over the edge of her own orgasm. Suddenly she came again. I felt her shake and her hips pushed back on my thrusts hard. She cried out, almost immediately stifling the sound.

I couldn’t hold back either. I felt rich semen gurgle up from my balls and pulled out of Oozmara just in time to spray seed across her back, the first blast reaching the edge of her hair. The whitish goo vanished under the onslaught of shower water almost instantly. I pulled the purple girl to me and felt her soft smooth flesh against mine for a long moment in the misty warmth of the shower. We kissed several times and then I nuzzled her neck.

“Ace, that was wonderful,” Oozmara sighed. I murmured in agreement.

“Do you like the warm shower?”

“Absolutely Ace but now it’s time to cool off.” She turned off the water flow and we felt a cool wave of air as we enjoyed each other’s presence.

Then, suddenly, the whole ship shook. The feeling pulled Oozmara and I out of our momentary bliss. There was another shake and the sound of a thud. Oozmara and I looked at each other. A third, violent shake knocked both of us over.

“Ace! Ace! Report to the cockpit immediately!” I heard the flat sound of PIPER’s voice over the public system of the ship.

I clambered out of the refresher, followed by Oozmara as another, minor shake ran through the Solar Temptress. I yanked on my clothes and my jacket and headed past the crew lounge, almost running into the hobbling form of Zayna, her arm still in a sling. The three of us wobbled as another tremor rocked through the ship.

“Oozmara, get her back to bed!” I ordered.

The purple girl grabbed Zayna who protested: “Ace, I’m okay!” Zayna said.

“No you’re not baby-girl! You need rest. I got this.”

Zayna’s protest faltered as quickly as it began. She knew I was telling the truth. I stumbled to the cockpit as Oozmara and Zayna returned to the crew lounge. PIPER was in the co-pilot chair and OG-91 was plugged into the Solar Temptress. His probe was spinning. The whirling swirl of trans-luminal flight, which should have been visible had been replaced by the multi-colored layers of a nebula.

I got into the pilot’s chair. “What’s going on?”

“We were knocked out of trans-luminal flight,” reported PIPER.

“Yeah got that, position?”

“We are in the Kinyion Nebula. Position is correct, sort of,” said PIPER.

“What?”

“We were on our way to Station K-331, a free port at the edge of the Nebula but were knocked out of flight. We are where we should be but we shouldn’t have dropped out of trans-luminal flight.”

“OG, talk to me buddy!”

“TL engines are off-line. Looks like the motherfuckers are stuck in a spooling cycle. Ion engines are about half capacity and that’s iffy. We’ve got the thrusters and that’s about it.”

“The shaking?”

“Gravimetric waves inside the nebula. We should not be in here,” commented PIPER.

“Recommendations guys?”

“If the TL engines keep spooling the bad boys will burn right the hell out. I’m shutting the fuckers down,” said OG.

“Good plan OG,” I said.

“We cannot stay in the Nebula; the gravity forces will tear us apart,” said PIPER. “We have to find a place to land.”

“Okay. What do I have to maneuver with OG?”

“Not much my man,” said the repair robot. “I’m powering down the ion engines. It looks like the quantum controller is damaged.”

“I hope you know what that means,” I said.

“Damn right I do!”

I had the thrusters. They weren’t much but I could land with them. They powered up easily.

“Scanners are at fifty percent,” said PIPER. “I am waiting for results. Try to hit the gravity waves at an angle; it will minimize the damage we take.”

“Good tip girl,” I said. “Warn me-”

“Incoming now!” said PIPER.

I twisted the control yoke hard to the port. The Solar Temptress responded. The ship shook under the gravity blast but not as much. I looked out the view port. “PIPER, is that-”

“A pulsar, yes,” answered PIPER. “It is a binary system with an orange main sequence companion. It has recently released a wave of Theta radiation.”

“Okay...” I responded dubiously.

“Well shit, that would knock us out of trans-luminal flight,” commented OG.

“And that means we can’t re-enter trans-luminal flight until it clears,” said PIPER.

“All good info-”

“Port Ace!” commanded PIPER. I cranked the ship over as another wave hit us.

“I need a place to land!” I said.

“Firming up Ace,” responded PIPER. “We are detecting a planetary body at the edge of the bio-zone ... atmosphere within acceptable limits ... barely. I am detecting a high level of argon and traces of neon gas. There are high levels of radiation and some technology on the surface.”

“Can we survive?” I asked. I knew that where I came from finding a habitable world anywhere near a pulsar was virtually impossible but here might be different.

“Looks like it – at least for a while. Feeding you the coordinates. Can you make that Ace?”

“I’m going to have to,” I responded dryly. I hit the intercom. “Oozmara, make sure you and Zayna are strapped in good. This is going to be a rough landing.” She confirmed for me.

“Okay, here we go.”

“You got this home skillet!” said OG. PIPER smiled at me after she secured her own safety belt.

“Fo’ shizzle OG,” I said. The controls of the Solar Temptress fought me as I pulled the freighter toward the dark planet. I held the ship on the course as best I could. She shook. She quaked. She rocked. At least we didn’t get hit by another gravity wave. In a few seconds we hit the upper atmosphere. “PIPER, blow the atmospheric brakes!” I commanded, with way too much confidence.

PIPER did something. I felt the ship slow and I engaged the landing thrusters. We were going too fast; I could tell from the reentry flames that flashed around the ship “We are going too fast Ace,” said PIPER. “Our velocity scale is not matching the standard landing curve.”

“Got it!” I yelled. I jammed the retro-thrusters into full. The Solar Temptress lurched backward and I felt the ship even out as I pulled back the control yoke.

“Better,” said PIPER.

The ground appeared and some thin clouds shot by. We had come down on the night side of the planet so it was hard to discern objects in the inky black of the surface. The ship approached what had to be a settlement, the lights and tiny buildings made it obvious. “There; to the left,” I said to myself. “That looks good.”

“The ship is in the top edge of the safe landing speed,” said PIPER.

“Good,” I hissed.

“We are at fifty percent thruster fuel,” added the cyborg.

“Thruster temperature is red-lining! Back ‘em down honky!” spat OG-91.

I eased off the thrusters. My eyes flashed across the control panel, searching for the manual landing gear deployment. I had gotten better over the last months but I still didn’t fully understand piloting this ship. I took my best guess and flipped a switch. The landing struts deployed but the Solar Temptress didn’t like it. The ship lurched backward and I almost lost control.

We were near the tree tops. I had to jink the ship back and forth three times to avoid alien looking trees. The Solar Temptress was still going a bit too fast but we didn’t have a choice now. The wide field I had selected as a landing site came into view.

I cranked up the power on the retros as high as it would go and yanked the yoke back. The ship hit hard. We could all hear it’s interior structure groan in protest. The Temptress literally bounced upward for a few feet at least and finally came to a stop, it’s landing gear digging furrows in the ground.

I sat in the pilot’s chair for a long moment, breathing. I glanced over at PIPER. The cyborg pushed her long red hair back and looked back. She smiled weakly and squeezed my hand. “Equalizing pressure,” she said, manipulating some controls.

“Status OG?”

“Everything looks damn good for that landing,” said the robot. “TL engines off-line, ion engines off-line, thruster fuel down to 42%, scanners on-line, ship systems nominal. Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.”

“Oozmara! Zayna! How you guys doing back there!”

Momentarily, Oozmara popped her head into the cockpit. “We’re fine,” she said. “I had to sedate Zayna. She kept on trying to get up here.”

“I will check her,” said PIPER.

“Fresh water supplies are way down,” commented OG as he ran through the systems of the Solar Temptress. “That’s damn odd. Maybe we have a leak. I’ll turn on the evaporaters and replenish the supply.”

Oozmara and I glanced at each other.

“Yeah,” I said. “Good idea OG. PIPER, after you check on Zayna start a complete check on internal systems. OG, when you are done you, me, and Oozmara will check out the surface. Oozmara, put on your clothes.”

“Fine!” said Oozmara a bit angrily.

Part 2: Nuri

This had to be one of the strangest worlds I had seen so far, and I was as much an expert on ‘strange new worlds’ as anybody else. Our small group walked down the landing plank of the Solar Temptress and saw a strange wonderland in front of us. The air was cool and the smell was crisp and earthy.

The sky was dark yet strange. The stars were visible but it seemed cloudy, not from the atmosphere but from the nebula that dominated the space around the world. In fact, it seemed like the sky itself had a strange orange-purple tint. I could see the binary system that the world orbited; a dim, orange orb and it’s companion, a sharp sphere of intense white light. I realized that were were not on the night side of this planet, we were on a world shrouded with twilight or near twilight all the time.

The grassy field we had landed on was different as well. It was hard to tell but by my best guess the grass itself was a deep purple color. The trees and plants were alien looking things to me, Many of them didn’t have leaves as such, instead they seemed to have strange looking plump pseudo-pod branches.

Many of those branches and what leaves I saw glowed in the never-ending evening. I had seen it before, not in person, but on screen and in classrooms. It was bio-luminescence and it was everywhere. The biological glimmer added a level of incredible beauty to the place.

It took a moment for all of us to understand the sheer majesty of the place we were observing as we stood at the edge of the walkway. “Damn,” said OG quietly.

“That’s an understatement,” I stammered.

“Wow,” was the only thing Oozmara could say. There was a flash of movement near the slimewisp. A massive moth emerged from some undergrowth. It was grayish in the twilight, it’s delicate gossamer wings rippling with soft dots of yellow and bluish lights. “It’s beautiful,” continued Oozmara.

The insect bolted away a moment later as the Solar Temptress angrily vented hot steam from her abused engines. The sound summoned all of us back to reality. It seemed to echo in the beauty we were seeing.

“Okay,” I said. “Lets get to work. We need to do a visual survey of the ship for damage. OG, you focus on the ship. Oozmara, we have weapons. We should check out this clearing. I know there is a settlement nearby and we need repairs.”

“Got it,” responded OG. He started to roll around the ship. Oozmara and I stayed together and started to look around.

A half-hour later we all gathered in the crew lounge to come up with a plan. I started off: “The area seems secure and I know there is a settlement close by. What do we need? This place is gorgeous but I don’t want to stay here forever.”

Zayna was there. She was groggy from being sedated. “Sorry everybody,” she said. “I’m getting better.” He arm was still in a sling.

PIPER rubbed her back. “You received a full particle beam blast that got past your armor. When you fell you strained your arm badly. The burns are better but your arm still needs time to heal. Just be patient.”

Zayna smiled weakly and nodded.

“Ship is in a pretty sad state but she can be repaired,” said OG. “The trans-luminal drive needs to be reset and re-calibrated but there isn’t any permanent damage. The ion engines lost their quantum controller so they won’t fire in tandem. It’ll need to be replaced so we need a part. Good news is that the thrusters will work for planetary flight.”

“We cannot form a trans-luminal field inside the nebula anyway because of the Theta radiation,” added PIPER.

“Yeah,” I said. “How long will that last?”

“Based upon the scans before we crash landed-”

“Hey!” I interrupted PIPER.

“Before we made a challenging landing ... seven to ten cycles.”

“Thank you,” I said.

“That’s not too long,” said Oozmara rather happily. “I checked the fresh water supply. There isn’t a leak and the evaporator is working fine so we should be good.”

“Excellent,” I commented.

“Coolant level is good as well,” added PIPER.

Zayna got up and sheathed her sword. “I’ll do a patrol around the ship, provide some overwatch. I might have a minor injury but I can still defend us!” she said, before heading outside. It was quite obvious nobody was going to stop her.

“Okee-dookey,” I said, watching her leave. “OG and I will head to the settlement. We need some intel and OG, you can look for a quantum thing for the engines. We have money so it should be okay.”

“We can always steal one!” responded OG.

“Always an option,” I added.

“I will perform some deeper scans,” said PIPER. “I will analyze the local environment and the nebula through the atmosphere to cover any contingencies.”

“Good,” I said. “Oozmara, join Zayna. Even hurt I’m sure she can take care of herself but we should keep an eye on her.”

“Okay!” said Oozmara. “Do I have to wear clothes?”

PIPER rolled her eyes.

“Yes Oozmara!” I said. “Just like earlier; remember what we decided: when you are outside the ship you wear clothes, no discussion!”

“But Ace!” she whined.

“I don’t care if they’re uncomfortable,” I said flatly.

“Okay,” sighed Oozmara.

A few moments later OG-91 and I were on our way to the settlement. It was about a thirty minute walk by my reckoning – I still didn’t understand the time units people used in this place. We came upon a wide bridge across a babbling waterway and could see the lights of buildings on the other side.

The landscape was still stunning: an eternal twilight that seemed to shade between the colors of purple and orange. The plant life had a dozen different types of bio-luminescence. Some tall slender trees had bulbous branches that were flecked with light that seemed to be white. There were other ground hugging plants with large leaves that seemed to be bathed with their own purple glow.

We stopped on the bridge as OG finished a cigarette, using on of his ports to smoke – I’m not sure exactly how that worked. In the distance, further down the small river where it widened I saw a smashed building. I say smashed rather than ruined as the damage looked fresh and it appeared to be some sort of factory or processing center.

“What do you make of that OG?” I asked.

“Not sure,” answered the robot. “Some sort of factory. It looks like it took a pounding.”

“Yeah, kind of scary,” I commented.

“It was one of our AG Stations,” said a voice from behind us.

I turned startled. My hand automatically fell to my sidearm but I didn’t draw. An alien man slowly walked across the bridge toward us. His skin was a deep red but other than that he was humanoid. A rifle was strapped on his back and he was wearing a long heavy jacket and what looked like a cowboy hat. “Sorry friends,” he continued. “I didn’t mean to eavesdrop but I saw you coming up toward town. We don’t want any trouble.”

I relaxed. “Sure,” I said. “You won’t get any.”

“I’m good,” added OG.

The alien nodded. “My name is Revard. I’m the Guardian of this settlement, Templeholm. You’re on the planet Xanus. My guess is you’re from that ship that flashed overhead a bit ago.”

“We are,” I said. “We’re not familiar with this world we were-”

“Going somewhere else like Station K-331 and ran into some radiation problems. Same thing happened to a mercenary ship last week. Z’hrd and his crew have been in town ever since. Try and stay out of their way – I’ve had to toss a couple of them in jail to sleep it off a couple times.”

“We will. I’m Ace by the way, this is OG-91. You wouldn’t know where we can find a quantum controller do you?”

“Someone might have something like that, I’m not sure. Just stay safe.”

“Okay,” I said.

Cautiously, OG and I left Revard on the bridge. “Let’s just get our part and get the hell out of here,” I said softly to OG.

“I agree my man,” said the repair robot. “I have a bad feeling about this place.”

We made our way into the settlement. It was far different than the other spaceports I had been to in the sense that it wasn’t really a spaceport. The town seemed small and fairly quaint, with only two landing pads. There was a large stone structure well to the north that was barely visible in the twilight. Small knots of the red-skinned aliens moved around. My guess was that they were native to this place. There were a few storefronts scattered around.

A large building seemed to dominate the center of the town. A neon sign labeled that place as the Dusty Star. It looked like a bar. “What do you think OG?”

“Good place to get info. We just need to be careful.”

“Yeah.”

We walked into the bar.

There wasn’t much of a crowd – it was hard to tell time here but my guess was that it was midday or something like it. A handful of patrons were at the bar, mostly the red aliens native to this place. Soft, tinny music came from somewhere, probably a music player. I noticed a large group of men at a table, loud, obviously drunk, and boisterous.

There was one other patron of interest off to one side. It was a human woman with long jet black hair and a sword strapped on her back. She was wearing a skin tight blue dress, qipao style and a red cloak. She glanced at me and OG as we walked in, smiling slightly and then looking away quickly. Her body was shapely and her tits were big, really big.

“Keep it in your pants honky,” hissed OG-91. “We just need to find our ship part!”

“I know, I know.”

The two of us walked up to the bar. I noticed the woman shot another glance my way but looked away quickly again. The bartender came over and I ordered a beer I turned around, smiling, leaned against the bar and looked around, only to have my vision blocked by a large man approaching from the loud table.

Shit.

“What do we have here?” said the man. He was at least a foot taller than me and built like a brick wall.

“Hi,” I said, trying to hide my nervousness. “I’m Ace. Why don’t I buy you and your buddies a drink! What would you guys like?”

The big man was obviously drunk but I didn’t think that would matter either way.

“We don’t drink with pip-squeaks,’ he said, slurring his words. “I’m Z’hrd Poundher, leader of the Ragged Blades mercenaries-”

The men at the table cheered.

“And we don’t like you pip-squeak!” Z’hrd continued.

“Sorry,” I said. “Look, I won’t drink with you. I’ll just buy you a round and me and my buddy will leave.”

“What kind of dork hangs around with a robot!” shouted one of the men from the table.

“Say what motherfucker!” said OG.

Double shit.

I glanced toward the woman. The scene had grabbed her whole attention. She was watching with a bemused smile on her face.

“And I don’t like you looking at my first mate!” grunted Z’hrd. “I wasn’t-”
