13 February

The office was dead quiet, just the low hum of the fridge and the fluorescents buzzing overhead. It was past eleven.

Kara and Jessica sat on the scuffed linoleum floor of the dark break room, their backs against the cool metal of the vending machines. Their shoulders were pressed together. Their phones lay between them, screens black.

They’d been crying for what felt like forever - the drained, hollow kind. The kind that comes after a month of loving the same man so hard it felt like a war, and watching the truest friendship of your life crack right down the middle. For two hours, they’d gone in circles about tomorrow.

“I can’t,” Kara whispered, her voice scraped raw. “I can’t keep doing this.”

Jessica didn’t speak. She just reached over, her fingers finding Kara’s, and held on.

They sat like that. Best friends. The two people who knew what the other ordered at every restaurant, who held each other’s hair back in college, who knew the stories behind every scar.

The two women hopelessly in love with Alex.

“He chooses tomorrow,” Jessica said finally. The words tasted like ash. “Valentine’s Day. And one of us ... one of us loses.”

“We both lose.” A wet, choked sound escaped Kara. “Even if he picks me, I lose you. If he picks you, you lose me. However this ends ... our friendship is just ... it’s done.”

“No.” Jessica’s grip tightened until their knuckles were white. “No, it’s not. We promised. We swore. Our friendship survives this. It has to.”

“HOW?” Kara twisted to look at her, her face a mess of tears and smudged mascara. “How, Jess? HOW does it survive? Do we go for margaritas and you tell me about your date with him? Do I show you a picture of us together and watch you try to smile? How do we sit at lunch every day and pretend it’s okay that one of us has him and the other one has to just ... just watch?”

Jessica had no words. The question hung there, impossible.

Kara dragged the heel of her hand across her eyes. “I saw him today. In the copy room. He looked ... God, he looked wrecked, Jess. Like he’s being torn right down the middle.”

“I know.” Jessica’s voice was tiny. “I saw it too. He loves us. He really, really loves us both. And tomorrow we’re making him ... we’re making him kill one of those loves.”

“What if he can’t?” Kara’s breath hitched. “What if he just ... walks away? From both of us?”

“Then we both lose him,” Jessica whispered, “and we blew up our friendship for absolutely nothing.”

The silence that followed was thick and suffocating.

Kara shifted, turning her whole body, her knees bumping Jessica’s. “I need ... I need to say something.”

“Okay.”

“This whole month.” Kara’s voice was steadier now, but it was the steadiness of pure exhaustion. “I’ve been watching you. With him. And I see it. He needs you, Jess. More than he needs me.”

Jessica’s eyes flooded. “Kara, don’t...”

“No. Let me. Just let me get this out.” Kara took a shuddering breath that was more sob than air. “He needs to heal. From all his crap. And you ... you have that quiet way. You can give him that peace. I can’t. I don’t ... I don’t have that in me.”

“That’s not TRUE!” Jessica cried, the words bursting out. “You give him so much! You make him laugh, you make him feel alive, you...!”

“I KNOW!” Kara shouted back, her composure shattering. “I KNOW WHAT I GIVE HIM! But it’s not what he needs MOST right now! And we BOTH know it!” She was sobbing now, the words gulped between cries. “I’ve known for weeks. I just didn’t ... I didn’t want to say it. I didn’t want to let him go.”

Jessica pulled her into a clumsy hug, both of them crying into each other’s shoulders. “But he needs you,” Jessica blubbered. “He DOES.”

“I know,” Kara wept. “But right now ... right now the healing matters more than the adventure. You know it does.”

They clung to each other for a long minute, two hearts breaking in rhythm.

Then Kara pushed back, scrambling to her feet. She started pacing the small, dark room. “This is crazy. We’re insane. We agreed to this ... this month-long trial like it was a business deal! Like love is something you can put on a spreadsheet and decide by a deadline!”

“We were trying to be fair to everyone...”

“FAIR?” Kara whirled, her eyes wild in the dim light. “Is this FAIR to HIM? We’re shredding him! Is it fair to US? Look at us! We’re a mess on a break room floor! Is it fair to our FRIENDSHIP?” Her voice dropped to a devastated whisper. “Because this month has almost killed it, Jess.”

Jessica stood up too, her legs unsteady. “So what are you saying? We both just ... let him go? We both lose?”

“No.” Kara’s voice went quiet, final. She walked back, took both of Jessica’s hands in her own cold ones. “I’m saying we stop making him choose.”

“How?”

“I step back.”

The world seemed to tilt.

“Kara, you can’t just...”

“I CAN.” The words were firm, even as her chin quivered. “I love him. God, Jess, I love him so much it feels like my ribs are cracking. But he needs you more. And you...” A fresh tear tracked through the mascara. “You’re my best friend. You’re my sister. And I am not letting a man ... not even him ... destroy that. So I’m choosing you. I’m choosing us. Our friendship. And I’m choosing to let him be happy. With you.”

Jessica fell apart. Great, heaving sobs shook her whole body. “I can’t ... I can’t let you do that ... I can’t take that from you...”

“It’s not a sacrifice! It’s a CHOICE!” Kara was crying too, but she was smiling, a broken, beautiful thing. “It hurts ... oh God, it hurts ... but it’s the right choice. Right now, it’s what has to happen.”

“I don’t want to lose you,” Jessica wept, barely coherent.

“You’re NOT losing me! We’re sisters! Nothing breaks that! NOTHING!” Kara pulled her into a crushing hug, their tears mixing. “We just ... we make this easier on him. Instead of forcing him to break a heart, we give him a gift. One last, perfect day. The three of us. Together. And then ... then I step back. With grace.”

They held each other up.

“Are you sure?” Jessica whispered into her friend’s hair.

Kara’s whole body shuddered. “No. I’m not sure. I love him. I LOVE HIM. But I’m doing it anyway.” She pulled back, using her thumbs to wipe clumsily at Jessica’s cheeks, then her own. “Tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day. Let’s give him one perfect day with both of us. Let’s end this ... this competition ... on a high.”

“And then?”

“And then I let him go.” Kara’s smile was a miracle of pain and love. “And you take care of him. For both of us.”

Jessica bent down, picked up Kara’s phone from the floor. It felt heavy. “What do we tell him?”

“Nothing. Not yet.” Kara took the phone. Her thumbs hovered, trembling, over the screen. “We just tell him to meet us.”

She typed, then turned the screen to Jessica.

To Alex: Meet us at Riverside Park tomorrow. 8 AM. Dress warm. We have plans. No questions. Just come. - K & J

Jessica nodded, a fresh wave of tears spilling over. “Send it.”

Kara’s thumb pressed down. The soft whoosh sounded final.

They sank back down to the floor, sliding against the vending machines until their shoulders touched again. Their phones, dark once more, lay between them like fallen soldiers.

“We’re really doing this,” Jessica whispered.

Kara found her hand again, lacing their fingers tight. “We’re really doing this.”

In the humming dark, they held on and cried until there was nothing left.

The couch swallowed him in the dark. A dull bar of streetlight cut across the floor from the window, but it didn’t reach the mantle. He didn’t need light to see it. He knew the shape of the silver frame by heart.

Elena’s picture. A candids shot from a picnic, her head thrown back, laughing at something he’d said. He couldn’t remember what.

Tomorrow. Valentine’s Day. The word sat in his mind like a stone. Choose.

A low, painful pressure built behind his breastbone. It was hard to take a full breath. He let his head fall back against the cushions, eyes burning.

“Ah, god, E,” he muttered to the ceiling, his voice gravelly with disuse. “What am I supposed to do?” He looked toward the mantle again, a silent outline in the shadows. “I can’t. I can’t pick. I love them. I love them both so much it’s killing me.”

The smile in the photo was permanent. A trick of the light and chemistry. Thirty-three. That was all she got. He got the endless after.

A vibration shuddered through the couch cushion. His phone. He fumbled for it, the screen blinding him.

A text. From Kara.

His heart did a stupid, hopeful leap before the rest of the message registered.

The air left his lungs in a rush, like he’d been hit. Cold prickled over his scalp, down his neck. This was it. A jolt of nauseous fear twisted in his stomach. They were expecting him to make a decision. Which one could he bear to lose?

He groaned. He didn’t want to lose either of them. They were both his soulmates.

His thumb trembled as he stabbed at the screen.

I’ll be there

He tossed the phone aside like it was hot. It thudded on the carpet. He pressed the heels of his hands hard into his closed eyes, seeing bursts of color. He stood up, his knees feeling unsteady.

Three steps to the fireplace. The frame was cold. He clutched it, the edges digging into his palms. He didn’t lift it high, just held it there, his head bowed over it.

“What do I do?” It was a dry, cracked whisper. “Kara ... she’s all your brave. Your ‘let’s just go’.’ Jess ... she’s your core. Your ‘I’ve got you’.” A tear fell, not a dramatic streak, just a fat drop that splashed on the glass over Elena’s shoulder. “How do I choose half a soul? How do I look at one of them and say ‘you’re not it’? I can’t. I can’t.”

He didn’t know how long he stood there. The metal lost its chill. His arms ached. Finally, he set the frame back, carefully, making sure it was straight.

He trudged to bed. The sheets were cold. He lay on his back, eyes wide open, tracing the crack in the ceiling plaster he’d been meaning to fix. The tears didn’t fall anymore; they just welled up and blurred the dark shape of the room until he blinked, then pooled again. His throat was tight. The hollow in his chest had grown claws. Tomorrow was coming, and it felt less like a day and more like an amputation. He didn’t know what would be left.

14 February

The park was nearly empty that gray February morning.

Alex arrived ten minutes early, dread sitting heavy in his chest. He spotted them from across the parking lot.

Kara and Jessica stood together near the entrance, arms linked, waiting.

They were beautiful. Devastatingly beautiful.

Kara wore a deep red coat, and the red scarf from their first date (like him) wrapped around her neck. Jessica wore navy blue, elegant and understated. But as Alex got closer, his heart shattered.

Their eyes were swollen. Red. The kind of red that came from crying all night. Kara’s mascara was carefully reapplied but smudged at the corners. Jessica’s face was pale, shadows under her eyes like bruises.

They looked beautiful and broken.

Alex stopped ten feet away. He couldn’t do this. Couldn’t choose.

“Alex,” Kara said, her voice hoarse. “You came.”

“I can’t do it.” The words burst out of him before anyone could say anything. “I tried. For a month I tried. And I can’t. I can’t choose between you. I love you both and I...” His voice broke. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

“Alex, stop.” Kara stepped forward, took his hands. “You don’t have to choose.”

He blinked. “What?”

“We decided,” Jessica said softly. “Last night. We’re not making you choose.”

“I don’t understand...”

“I’m leaving,” Kara said, trembling.

The words hit like a punch to the gut. “What?”

“After today, I’m leaving. The city. Probably the state.” Kara was crying now. “You need her, Alex. To heal. To build a life. And I can’t watch you two together. I thought I could, but I can’t. So I’m leaving.”

Jessica’s head whipped toward Kara, shock written across her face. “What? Kara, we said you’d step back, not...”

“I can’t just step back, Jess.” Kara looked at her best friend, tears streaming. “I love him too much. I can’t be here watching you two, knowing what we had. I have to go.”

“No.” Alex grabbed her shoulders. “No, you can’t just leave. I need you...”

“You need her more.” Kara’s voice was firm despite the tears. “You need stability. Peace. A future. And that’s Jessica. Not me.”

“Kara...” Jessica’s voice cracked.

“It’s okay.” Kara turned to her. “I’ll be okay. Eventually. But I need distance to heal. You understand that, right?”

Jessica was crying now too. She nodded, unable to speak.

Alex was shaking his head. “I can’t lose you. Please don’t do this.”

“That’s the price of love, Alex. I love you too much to see you like this.” Kara cupped his face. “But I have to go. For me. So I can heal too.” She smiled through tears. “But we have today. Right now.”

“One day?” His voice was broken.

“One perfect Valentine’s Day. With both of us. Together.” Kara wiped his tears. “Give me this, Alex. One perfect memory before I go. Please.”

He stared at her. At the woman who’d made him feel alive again, who was walking away to save herself from watching him with someone else.

She was doing this for herself. But also for him.

The least he could do was give her this day.

He took a shaky breath. Forced the grief down. Smiled for her.

“Okay,” he said. “One perfect day.”

Kara’s face lit up despite the tears. “Yeah?”

“Yeah.” He pulled her close, then pulled Jessica in too. “Let’s make it the best Valentine’s Day any of us have ever had.”

“That’s my knight in shining armor,” Kara whispered.

Jessica squeezed them both. “We’re going to make this perfect.”

They pulled apart and wiped their eyes. The girls went to the restroom to fix their smudged makeup.

“So,” Alex said, managing a real smile. “What’s first?”

Kara grinned, her natural brightness forcing its way through the pain. “Coffee. Then adventure. Then we make memories that last forever.”

“Sounds perfect,” Alex said.

They linked arms and walked toward the parking lot.

One perfect day.

That’s all they had left.

They were going to make every second count.

The coffee shop was warm and crowded with Valentine’s couples. They found a corner booth. Alex slid in first.

Before he could even settle, both women squeezed in next to him. Kara on his left, Jessica on his right, tucking themselves under his arms.

It was automatic. The way they’d been sitting for weeks. His arms settled around both women naturally and reflexively did what he’d done for the past month. His left hand had landed on Kara’s breast. His right on Jessica’s and squeezed possessively. Both girls moaned.

He froze ... horrified at what he’d done.

Alex reached for his coffee with his right hand.

Both women looked down, then at each other across his chest, and burst out laughing.

“Oh my god,” Jessica giggled. “We’re doing the same thing.”

“What?” Alex looked confused, still frozen.

Kara lifted the edge of the table slightly to show him: Jessica’s left hand was high on his thigh, fingers splayed possessively. Kara’s right hand mirrored it on his other thigh.

They both cracked up.

“Muscle memory,” Kara said, grinning.

“Apparently,” Jessica said, not moving her hand.

Alex grimaced. “Shit, sorry. I should...” He started to move his hands.

“Don’t,” Kara said, pressing her chest slightly into his palm. “Feels nice.”

“Besides,” Jessica said quietly, “I just saw where his other hand is and I don’t even care.”

“Right?” Kara glanced at Jessica. “I saw you grab his ass when we walked in and I was just thinking ‘Damn ... I wanted to do that first.’”

They both dissolved into giggles again.

The waitress took their orders: black coffee for Alex, caramel latte for Kara, chai tea for Jessica. She walked away smiling looking at the three of them.

When the coffees came, Alex grudgingly took his coffee.

“So what’s the plan?” Alex asked, trying to focus on his coffee as the girls hands wouldn’t stop moving.

“Adventure first,” Kara said, stealing a sip of his cup. “Then culture. Then more adventure.”

“Try mine,” Jessica offered her chai.

Alex sipped it. “That’s actually really good.”

“Because she has taste,” Kara said, reaching across to try it too.

“Get your own, bitch!” Jessica laughed.

They lingered over coffee, trading bites of the fries Alex had ordered, arguing about sci-fi versus literature, finishing each other’s sentences.

At one point, Jessica shifted and Alex’s arm adjusted automatically, his hand ending up on her hip, thumb tucking under the waistband of her jeans. Just resting there. The way he’d touched her a hundred times.

Kara’s hand had moved too, now resting on his inner thigh. No one seemed to care.

Next, they drove to a nature preserve just outside the city. Fresh snow covered the trails.

“Last one to the overlook buys lunch!” Kara took off running.

“That’s cheating!” Jessica called, laughing as she chased her.

Alex brought up the rear, watching them race ahead. Both of them laughed like teenagers.

Kara reached the overlook first. “I am the champion ... of the world!”

Jessica arrived seconds later, gasping. “You ... had a head start...”

“All’s fair in love and lunch,” Kara declared.

Alex pulled them both into a hug when he arrived. They stood pressed together, looking out over the snow-covered valley.

Without thinking, his hands settled on their lower backs. Then one slid up, fingers playing with the ends of Jessica’s ponytail. The other traced idle patterns on Kara’s coat.

Both girls noticed. But they didn’t seem to mind.

They hiked deeper. Kara started a snowball fight, nailing Alex in the chest, Jessica in the shoulder.

They ended up in a tangled heap, all three breathless and laughing.

When they stood up, brushing snow off, Alex turned and kissed Kara. Just because. His hand cupped her jaw, thumb brushing her cheek.

When they broke apart, Jessica was watching - her expression soft.

Alex turned to her next. Kissed her the same way. His hand on the back of her neck, fingers in her hair.

Kara watched, something warm unfurling in her chest.

They built a snow heart together, carved their initials: A + K + J.

They then posed for many photos together.

“Send that to me ... later, Jess,” Kara said solemnly.

Jess nodded, tears in her eyes.

They walked back to the car with Alex’s arms around both their waists. At some point his hand slid under Kara’s coat, settling on her hip where her shirt had ridden up slightly. Skin on skin. Warm.

She leaned into him.

His other hand was doing the same with Jessica, thumb hooked in her belt loop.

The diner was warm and smelled like burgers. They slid into a booth, Alex in the middle again.

They shared everything - onion rings, fries, three types of pie.

Under the table, both women’s hands found his thighs. High up. Comfortable. The way they always sat.

Alex’s hand rested on Jessica’s knee while he ate with the other. Then drifted higher as they talked, settling on her thigh. His fingers traced absent patterns on her jeans.

Kara’s hand on his thigh squeezed gently when she laughed at something. Alex’s free hand found hers on top of the table, fingers intertwining.

Above the table, everything looked normal. Below, hands wandered, squeezed, touched. All of it unconscious. Natural.

When Kara leaned over to kiss his neck - just a soft press of lips - Jessica watched. Her hand slid higher on his thigh.

When Jessica did the same on the other side, Kara’s breath caught slightly.

The waitress smiled at them. “You three are adorable. How long have you been together?”

“Since today,” Kara said. “First Valentine’s Day.”

“Well, aren’t you lucky,” the waitress said to Alex.

“I really am,” he said quietly after she left.

Kara insisted on going ice skating in the afternoon. Apparently she was very competent at it. The outdoor rink was decorated with lights and hearts.

Jessica immediately grabbed the rail. “I’m terrible at this.”

Kara took her hand, pulling her forward. “Just glide. Don’t think.”

Alex skated up on her other side. “I’ve got you.”

They moved together, trading positions, laughing when they bumped into each other.

When a slow song came on, they figured out how to dance together. All three. Kara and Jessica’s hands found each other behind Alex’s back while he held their waists.

It shouldn’t have worked.

But it did.

Back at the car, Alex turned and kissed Kara. His hand slid into her hair, the other resting on her lower back. She melted into him.

Jessica watched, her own hand unconsciously touching her lips.

Then Alex turned to Jessica. Same kiss. Same intensity. His hands on her hips, then sliding up her sides.

Kara watched, pressing her thighs together. They were beautiful.

In the evening, as darkness beckoned, they sat close on a park bench, watching the city lights come on.

“Favorite memory from today?” Kara asked.

“Snowball fight,” Alex said.

“Ice skating,” Jessica said. “When we all danced.”

“Coffee,” Kara said softly. “When I realized we were both touching you the exact same way and nobody cared.”

They were quiet.

“Favorite thing about each other,” Alex said.

Kara turned to Jessica. “You make me feel smart. Like my brain matters.”

Jessica’s eyes filled. “You make me feel brave. Like I can try anything.”

They looked at Alex.

“You make me feel alive,” he said to Kara.

“You make me feel understood,” he said to Jessica.

“Together, you make me whole.”

The words hung in the air.

They pulled up outside. Nobody wanted to move.

“Come up?” Alex asked. “Please.”

“Okay,” they said together.

They walked to his door, arms linked, talking excitedly about the day.

At the landing, Alex stopped and kissed Kara. His hands settled on her waist, then one slid up her side without thinking. Familiar territory.

Kara’s breath caught.

Jessica watched, heat blooming in her chest.

Alex turned to Jessica next. Kissed her the same way. His hand cupped her face, then drifted down, fingers brushing her collarbone, then lower. Unconscious.

Jessica made a small sound. Kara watched, biting her lip.

They reached his apartment door ... and stopped.

The excited chatter died.

Inside was warmth and the three of them together.

Outside was tomorrow. The end. Kara leaving.

Alex’s hand trembled, reaching for his keys.

Jessica’s grip tightened on his arm. She could feel Kara slipping away. She didn’t want her to go.

Kara looked at the door and felt her heart breaking. Everything she wanted was on the other side.

Everything she was about to walk away from.

“Alex ... let’s not do this. It’s time. Prolonging this will only make it hurt more,” murmured Kara.

Kara’s eyes filled with tears. She blinked them back, forcing herself to be brave.

This was the right thing. She’d known it all day. Watching Alex and Jessica together. They were perfect. They needed each other. And she needed to let them have that.

“I had the most perfect day,” Kara said, her voice steady despite the tears threatening to spill. “Thank you both for that. For giving me one perfect memory to take with me.”

“Kara...” Alex’s voice was strangled. He couldn’t speak. Couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe.

Jessica was crying openly now, silent tears streaming down her face.

Kara reached up and unwrapped the red scarf from Alex’s neck. The one they’d bought together on their first date. She held it to her face, breathing in the scent of him. Cinnamon and coffee and cold air.

“I’m taking this,” she said softly. “As a memento. Of my fairytale month with the most amazing man I’ll ever know. Thank you Alex.”

She wrapped it around her own neck. Then she turned and started walking toward the stairs.

Her legs were trembling. Each step felt like walking through concrete.

At the top of the stairs, she looked back one last time.

Alex stood frozen at his door, face pale, eyes wide. Jessica was beside him, tears streaming.

“Goodbye, Alex,” Kara whispered. “I love you. I’ll always love you.”

Then she turned and ran down the stairs, her vision blurring with tears.

Alex stared at the empty stairwell. His mind was blank.

She was leaving.

Kara was leaving.

And he was just ... standing here. Letting her go.

He looked at Jessica. She was crying, watching him, waiting.

“Do you...” His voice cracked. “Do you agree with this? You think this is right?”

Jessica’s face crumpled. She nodded, tears falling faster. “No,” she whispered. “We need her, Alex. For all of us. She needs to heal and we...” Her voice broke. “We need each other. Go ... go to her and get her back.”

Something in Alex snapped.

His mind was clear now. He needed Kara. His life was incomplete without her. She was his fire. His beating heart. He couldn’t live without her as well.

He turned and ran for the stairs. “KARA! WAIT!”

“Alex! Go! Fast! I’ll catch up” Jessica called after him, but she was already running too, following him down the stairs.

Kara was halfway across the parking lot when she heard him shouting.

She turned, tears streaming down her face.

Alex was running toward her, Jessica close behind. Snow had started to fall around them. The soft, white flakes caught in their hair, on their shoulders.

“Kara, wait! Please wait!”

She stood frozen as he reached her, as he grabbed her in a fierce bear hug, lifting her off her feet.

“Don’t go,” he said into her hair, his voice breaking. “Please don’t go. I can’t lose you. I can’t.”

“Alex...” Kara was sobbing now. “You have to let me go. You need her. You need Jessica. And I can’t watch...”

“I need you both!” The words burst out of him. “I need BOTH of you!”

Jessica caught up, breathing hard. Without thinking, she wrapped her arms around both of them, joining the embrace.

Kara was confused, tears streaming down her face. “What are you doing? You two need to be together. That’s why I’m leaving...”

“No.” Alex pulled back just enough to look at both of them. His hands were on both their faces, thumbs wiping away tears. “No. Listen to me. Please.”

Snow fell around them, soft and quiet.

“Today was perfect,” Alex said, his voice rough with emotion. “Not because I got to spend time with each of you separately. Because we were together. All three of us. Together.”

He looked at Kara. “When you kissed me, Jessica watched and smiled. She wasn’t jealous. She was happy.”

He looked at Jessica. “When I held Jessica, you weren’t hurt. You were ... turned on. You loved seeing us together.”

Both women were staring at him, tears frozen on their cheeks.

“And me?” Alex’s voice cracked. “I’ve been in hell for a month trying to choose between you. Trying to figure out who I need more. Who I love more. And today I finally realized ... I don’t have to choose. Because you complete each other. And together, you complete me.”

“Alex, that’s not how this works...” Kara started.

“Why not?” His voice was fierce now. “Why the fuck not? Today proved it works. We had coffee and you were both touching me and nobody cared. We danced on the ice ... all three of us ... and it was perfect. We fit. Like pieces of a puzzle. You can’t tell me you didn’t feel it.”

Kara was shaking her head, but tears were streaming faster. “But what if I can’t watch you with her...”

“You weren’t watching today,” Jessica said suddenly, her voice quiet but clear. “You were participating. We were sharing him. Sharing each other.”

Kara looked at her best friend. “Jess...”

“I don’t want you to go,” Jessica said, voice breaking. “I thought I could do this. I thought I could be with him and lose you. But I can’t. I realized it today. Watching you together made me feel ... complete. Like we were all where we belonged.”

“This is crazy,” Kara whispered. But her hands were clutching Alex’s jacket. Not letting go.
