Tillyn stepped into the kitchen following the enticing smell of breakfast that Marc was preparing. Contentedly, she snaked her arms around his torso and kissed him in the neck.
“Hey,” she purred, “that smells really good. You need to teach me that so I can do it for you when you’re tired.”
She loved the vibrations that came from his chest when he laughed. “Sure, I loved to but I think in the coming months you’ll be preoccupied carrying our daughter.”
“Months?”
“Ah yes,” he said while dividing the steaming food into two bowls. “So, a cycle is called a day.”
“Yes, and a large cycle is called a year.”
“To make it more complex we have given the days a name which repeats every seven days. And each repetition is called a week.”
“Okay, but what is a month?”
“Roughly thirty days, and a common pregnancy takes about nine months or forty-two weeks or two-hundred-ninety-four days,” he said.
“Oh, this does taste good,” she said after she taken a first bite but then she contemplated what Marc had said, “So, I’m almost half way.”
“You are,” he said, “We should visit my friend who is a gynecologist. She can make a real good 3D echo of the baby.”
“Can she help me with the delivery?” she asked.
“Of course,” he replied a little taken aback, “but don’t you want to see the baby?”
Tillyn giggled. “Yes, but we don’t have to visit your friend for that. Aris can show us a real hologram.”
Within a second, a holographic projection appeared right in front of Marc and Tillyn.
“No way,” he whispered in awe when the little girl lazily moved her tiny arm. “Is this a real-life projection of our baby?”
“Yes, and I think she looks a lot like you.”
Marc walked around the hologram and replied, “Hmm, I don’t know, there are definitely features I recognize as yours.”
Tillyn pulled him into a hug and purred, “It’s just a perfect mix from both of us. I really hope she gets your amazing blue eyes.”
“I’m not really fussy, as long as she is healthy.”
“Millia said she is,” she replied.
“Tillyn, the Supremacy asked for permission to transport down.” her Aris spoke up.
“Wait! What?” she exclaimed, shocked.
“The Supremacy and his physician are waiting for your approval, Marc,” said the small construct.
“Hold on, Aris,” Tillyn said, utterly surprised, “Millia is joining him?”
“Yes. Katlynn will bring down the suspension chair.”
“Okay Aris,” said Marc, a little flustered, “please let them know that they are welcome.”
“Oh my Dunia,” whispered Tillyn, “They traveled in Dunia’s flagship!”
The Supremacy hated inter spacial transports but he knew there was no other alternative. He hated waiting and asked the pilot, “Luckua, did you get any response?”
“I just have received approval, Supremacy,” the pilot answered with deference, “You are good to go.”
He looked at Millia who already had her arms stretched out to pull him out of the chair. He admired her precise amount of firmness in her fingers to gently pull him to a stand.
Her smile was genuine when she said, “Let’s pay your daughter a visit.”
He huffed while he slowly moved to the designated spot. “I hope there’s enough space for us all.”
He saw the twinkle in Millia’s eyes when she said, “From what I have heard from Tillyn, you should not worry about that.”
“Alright,” he said, addressing the pilot, “engage the transport.”
He closed his eyes because he knew from experience the after-effect would be significantly less. Even after the high number of transports he had undergone, it was always an unsettling experience.
“Supremacy,” Millia’s voice sounded distorted. “Take my arm. We need to move away from the transport spot.”
His heart skipped a beat when he recognized Tillyn’s pleasant voice, “I’m on the other side of you, father.”
“Tillyn,” he said hoarsely. He slowly opened his eyes and was surprised by the brightness of the room he was in.
“You came to visit me?” his daughter asked with a small voice.
Slowly his mind stopped over-processing the stimulants and by the time Katlynn gently guided him to sit in his favorite chair he could think straight again. He smiled at his assistant and then turned to the couple who stood patiently waiting for him to adjust.
“Supremacy,” said the man, who stood next to Tillyn, “welcome to my humble dwelling.”
He liked the rich and dark voice and noticed the powerful physique of the man. He remembered the name and replied, “And I’m honored to receive such a warm welcome, Marc. Let me introduce you to my physician Millia and my assistant Katlynn.”
Marc nodded briefly and replied, “I’m honored to welcome you all.”
“Perhaps you can perform an extra check on Tillyn’s health?” The Supremacy asked the physician.
“Why don’t you just ask us to leave you two alone, father,” Tillyn said with a naughty smirk on her face and as she pulled Millia into a corridor she said, “I think Katlynn is dying to know about babies as well.”
Somewhat surprised, he looked at his assistant’s pleading face and as he raised his arms in the air he murmured, “Off you go, Katlynn.”
He had to chuckle when the three women happily disappeared from view.
“So, Supremacy,” Marc said while he walked to a large cabinet, “I think you and I need to have a drink.”
“Please, call me Talex,” he replied, “and I would like to try one of your beverages.”
He was intrigued to see the golden liquid sparkle in the sunlight when Marc offered him the small glass. “Tillyn told me it was close to a Dunian drink called tu-nuk.”
“Thu nuck,” Talex corrected him and carefully sniffed at the glass.
“We call it whiskey, which comes in many different variants,” Marc said, “This one, for example, changes significantly in taste by adding just a few drops of water.”
He nipped at the glass and let the strong concoction sit in the mouth for a moment. The amazing explosion of taste blew him away.
“Very nice,” Talex conceded.
“Thank you.”
Talex warmed the glass as he looked around and saw his daughter’s ship, hidden from view. He sighed deeply and said, “Let’s skip the pleasantries for now and let’s talk about my daughter.”
“Tillyn will be in good hands,” Marc replied instantly. “One of my friends is one of the best gynecologists of New York.”
The Supremacy had trouble understanding what Marc had just said. “So, this gynecologist is a physician as well?”
“Ah, yes. She has a degree and after that she specialized in women’s physiology when they are carrying a child.”
It still was a mystery for Talex how Tillyn’s body was able to produce a child. “Right,” he said “And this woman can assist with this, erm, birthing?”
“Absolutely.” Marc said firmly.
