“Oh, my Dunia, Tillyn!” Millia said when they stepped into the narrow corridor leading to the Medical building.
Tillyn laughed when she recalled Observer Sebo’s shocked face when she basically put him on the spot. She knew it would probably backfire on her later, but she actually didn’t care.
“I know I shouldn’t have done it,” she sighed. “But it was totally worth it.”
“Really, Tillyn, those cycles on Earth have changed you.”
“Don’t forget, I’m a woman from Earth now and I can tell you, that has a bigger effect on me than you think.”
“That is hard to believe,” Millia said while she moved her eye in front of the retina-scanner to open the door to the genetic department. “Your appearance is only a cosmetic alteration.”
“Really?”
“Well yes,” Millia said as she turned to look at Tillyn. “That’s why you could only drink the condensed water when you were stuck on that horrible planet.”
She shuddered when she remembered the horrible hunger pangs. Her Aris couldn’t find anything to eat and the replicator on her crashed ship was irreparable. It was the most traumatic experience she had gone through, especially because she was too weak to revert to her own body. It had taken many cycles before she was strong enough to undergo the revert procedure.
She nodded and said, “That is truly a big downside. I’m glad it wasn’t a big issue this time.”
Millia chuckled while she opened the door for Tillyn to enter. “As you’ve said before, you were lucky this time.”
Still, there was something that bothered Tillyn; how was it possible to have those amazing feelings when her body had only undergone a cosmetic change? Even now, she had a strange feeling in her underbelly and her breasts were quite tender. Her smile was demure when she said, “I guess so.”
The large room was divided into two parts; a large console, and on the other side, there was a pod which was covered with a glass dome. Millia touched the console, and all the little screens lit up. She tapped on a few icons and with a soft whir the dome slid away.
“Right Tillyn,” the physician said softly. “You know the drill. Get undressed and climb in.”
Tillyn took a deep breath to get rid of the doubts she still had. It was her last moment to change her life and fight for a new future with Marc. She knew, after her recent rebellious encounter with Observer Sebo, her chances of going back to Earth had been reduced to zero.
She unclasped the clip that kept her breasts contained and the jumpsuit’s front closure spontaneously slid down completely. It didn’t take her long to free herself from the stretchy material and then she fiddled a little to unclasp her brassiere. With mixed feelings she laid the delicate piece of clothing on top of the bland jumpsuit. With pain in her heart, she slipped down her mutanni, remembering the time Marc slowly pulled it from her hips.
“Wow,” Millia said softly. “Even their underwear looks quite, erm, extravagant.”
“You don’t want to know, Millia,” Tillyn confided when she climbed on the soft padding of the pod. “They have mutannis that barely covers the crotch, and the backside is just a string that sits between the cheeks of your bottom.”
Millia gasped. “Oh, that’s so inappropriate!”
“It seems that women on Earth prefer to wear those flimsy clothes.”
Millia briefly shook her head and said, “Let’s get you sorted. Are you ready for it?”
Tillyn closed her eyes and allowed herself a moment to concentrate on her body. The cool air in the room had a slight stiffening effect on her nipples, which felt nice. The strange feeling in her lower stomach was still there and she couldn’t put her finger on what it was. She took a deep breath and blew it out forcefully and dreaded that her body would be normal again. A dull, plain body without any pleasure.
“I am ready,” she said with a trembling voice.
“Don’t worry Tillyn,” the physician sounded through a small speaker while the dome closed off the pod. “The changes aren’t that extreme. It won’t take that long.”
A recorded female voice informed Tillyn, while an arch of deep purple light swept over her naked body, “Determining the anchor points.”
There was an eerie silence. Tillyn concentrated on her breathing to prevent herself from panicking.
“Determining the anchor points,” said the voice again, which was followed by the purple arch that moved over her body.
This time the long silence was deafening.
“Error,” the voice said without any emotion, “failure finding anchor points.”
“What’s going on Millia?” asked Tillyn, truly concerned.
“I don’t understand. Something is wrong with the detection subroutine,” her friend said annoyed, “Someone must have altered the configuration.”
“Great!” mumbled Tillyn. “Can’t you scan them manually?”
“I usually do a few spot checks after the scan,” Millia said slowly. “Perhaps I can use my list to recalibrate the routine.”
“Sounds good,” Tillyn. “I hope you can make it quick. I really don’t like small spaces like this.”
“I know, I know, I’m on it,” Millia said a little stressed, “I hate when others think that they just can change the settings.”
Tillyn was getting nervous when her friend didn’t say anything for a long time. She squeaked softly when the glass dome slid away. Her heart was in her mouth when she saw Millia walking towards the pod, her face ashen.
“What’s the matter, Millia?” she asked softly.
“I, I, I have bad news,” she said with a hoarse voice, “Your DNA doesn’t have any anchor points.”
“What? How’s that possible and what does that mean?”
“I need to investigate the ship’s logs to see what happened but I’m afraid I can’t revert you at the moment.”
“At the moment? When can you do it?”
“I need to know what happened to you first before I can give you an answer,” said Millia with a small voice. “I’m sorry but the chances are slim we can’t revert you without resetting your DNA completely.”
“Resetting my DNA?”
“It means you’ll undergo a complete DNA reset, including your memories.”
Tillyn huffed, “You know that is not going to happen.”
“I know.”
Tillyn looked at her distraught friend and asked meekly, “So, I’m basically stuck with this body.”
