After arriving at Grandpa’s house along the narrow path, Grandma was already anxiously waiting at the door. It was already past eight o’clock after their stroll. Auntie came in somewhat listlessly and said, “I’m going to take a shower.” Daniel thought to himself that she was probably still thinking about the things she had her eye on!

“Haha, My little Dan is here! Hurry up and have a couple of drinks with me.” Daniel’s maternal grandfather, Robert Cooper, was sitting in a chair and had started drinking. The old man was over 60 years old but still as strong as an ox.

Daniel didn’t usually have much to talk about with his young aunt, who was a bit older than him, and his maternal grandmother always kept grandpa from drinking too much. This made the grandfather, who was a bit of a drinker, feel a little uncomfortable. Now that his grandson was here, he had an excuse to have a few drinks.

“Hehe, Grandpa, don’t drink that wine, it’s not good! I bought some top-grade RedMonkey, let’s have a good drink together.”

[RedMonkey = A Fictional Top-Grade Liquor]

Daniel bought a case of good wine for his grandfather, each bottle costing over a $456. Sure enough, upon entering the door, he saw that his grandfather was still drinking loose liquor that cost $3 - $5 a bottle, and he handed the wine over with a smile.

“Honestly, knowing your grandfather likes to drink, why spend money to buy him alcohol? You might as well use that money to buy some study materials yourself.”

Grandma rummaged through the oil, rice, and other things Daniel had brought, muttering to herself, but her tone remained peaceful. Grandpa and Grandma had lived a very harmonious life, rarely arguing or getting angry. As a child, Daniel always thought this was true love.

“Why are you buying all this stuff? It’s such a waste of money!”

Grandma looked at the bottle of honey and nutritional supplements with a bit of heartache and said.

Grandpa smiled and handed Daniel a bowl, spoon, and a cup. After pouring a cup, he chuckled and scolded, “Alright, old woman, you should be content that your grandson is filial. Besides, our daniel has almost become a small business owner these past few days. You should be grateful that he still cares about us two old folks who are about to enter our coffins!”

“Daniel, coming next time! Don’t buy these things.”

Grandma continued grumbling, but Daniel found it quite comforting to listen to.

On the table sat a pot of stewed meat and stir-fried bamboo shoots, a local favorite. Daniel had already picked up his spoon and started eating. Robert took a small sip after smelling the wine carefully and exclaimed, “This wine is really good! It’s fragrant and mellow. This bottle must cost more than ten dollor!”

“Grandpa, one bottle costs over a hundred, okay?!”

Daniel was still eating when he spoke in a somewhat indistinct manner.

“What a waste! son, you could have bought something else with that money, why buy such expensive wine for the old man? This bottle is enough to cut twenty pounds of pork!”

[here, son= Grandson]

Upon hearing that the wine cost over a hundred, Grandma immediately cried out in distress. However, Robert completely ignored her and savored it happily. Besides the delicious wine, he felt pleased that it was a gift from his grandson.

As he spoke, Daniel took out five hundred from his pocket and handed it over: “Grandpa, you two can take this money and spend it. Play mahjong when you want to, and stop thinking about those few plots of land all the time.”

Robert’s eyes immediately lit up. His family relied on two acres of land to make a living, and his wife always kept a tight rein on their money. Five Dollor a month wasn’t enough for cigarettes and alcohol, and he also loved playing mahjong. Occasionally, he would go to his son-in-law’s house to mooch some money, usually five or a Ten dollor. Now, with that money, he could live comfortably for more than a month.

Unfortunately, before he could even reach out, his grandmother, quick as a flash and unlike any elderly person, snatched the money away: “Daniel, I’ll keep this money safe. If the old man leaves it, it’ll just be wasted! You have a drink with your grandfather, but don’t let him drink too much. I’m sleepy, I’m going to bed!”

After saying that, she ignored Robert’s tearful face and went into the inner room with her things.

Robert turned around and looked at Daniel with a resentful expression, basically saying, “You know how stingy your grandma is, why did you bring this out at this time?” Daniel was amused by his grandfather’s childlike behavior, and quietly took out hundred Dollor from his pocket and handed it to him under the table, whispering, “Grandpa, that was a smokescreen. I prepared your share for you a long time ago!”
