“What question?” I asked
“It’s just that earlier, you said that Lucille was your girlfriend or wife and something else I didn’t understand.” Astrid slowly said with a pensive look on her face.
“So I was wondering what kind of relationship you have with her. Is she simply a friend you just met ... Or something else like you mentioned?” She really strained her last sentence.
“Let me ask you a question, Astrid.” I said with a strange look on my face, in reply to her question.
“Do you think I can make Lucille; the princess of an entire race, a future queen who will rule over all of humanity, into my girlfriend in 15 minutes? ... Do you really think I have such a heaven-defying charm?”
“No. Definitely not.” Astrid absent-mindedly replied.
“Especially when you possess none of that heaven-defying charm you speak off, and look only a little better than average, compared to other humans.”
“And there you have your answer to the question you asked.” I said and then continued in a sarcastic voice, with a low-spirited smile on my face
“ ... I would never have a chance at getting together with a girl like her, when I only look average at best, just like you said.”
I said the exact opposite of what I was saying earlier when I was boasting about my charm; which attracts women left and right, and was acting like I was really dejected by reality.
Hearing the self-mockery in my voice, Astrid realised what she told, and quickly said, in a panic fearing that I’d misunderstand her intentions
“No! No! I didn’t mean it like that! I was just rating how you look based on your human race’s standards. I don’t personally think you look average and ... and actually think you look quite handsome.”
“It’s fine, Astrid. You don’t need to say those words just for my sake. Your pity is more hurtful than the words you said.”
I dramatically said in a low voice, as if I was deeply affected by what she said and wouldn’t recover from the blow for a while.
“No! I’m definitely not saying that you look good, out of pity, like you think I am. I genuinely think you look way better than any human I’ve seen, be it in this school or anywhere else!”
She exclaimed as if she wouldn’t back down on her words, with panic in her eyes.
She then, all of a sudden, took both my hands and held them together in the palms of both her hands, like we were both praying to God, and exclaimed
“You have to trust me on this! I’m serious!”
She looked like she really didn’t want me to misunderstand her for some reason, even though we just met. And it didn’t seem like she was going to let go of my hands until I understood what she was trying to say.
Seeing her look so flustered, it made me want to tease her more, so I agilely pulled my hands away from her soft and delicate-looking hands, leaving her to hold nothing in place.
Astrid seemed to have thought, that I was so dissatisfied with what she said, that I didn’t even want my hands to be held by her.
The poor girl looked so wronged, that her eyebrows fluttered like she was about to cry.
But before she could say another word, she cried out in surprise, when I suddenly grabbed her hands out of nowhere, like she did to me, with a cheeky smile on my face.
But this time, it wasn’t her two hands cupping mine. But I was holding her two hands in between mine.
