Yun felt the change immediately. Her powerlessness receded and the eternal tugging of the demon sphere was softened. Something had happened to the pearl in De-Yong. He had drunk blood!

She herself had not yet drunk again and did not want to weaken the recruits any further, because she needed them.

Time was running out. Na-Ri would return soon, and under no circumstances could she do so in the midst of the enemy, shielded by a spell circle.

Although she didn’t understand what had just happened, she gladly accepted the gift. It made her plans easier.

Yes, the samurai were superior, had weapons that could be dangerous to her and were apparently well protected. But Yun had lived in this world for almost 800 years. The knowledge she possessed was far superior to any human mind. Without realizing it, the enemy had put itself in a hopeless situation.

Now she would strike.

She quickly passed on the final instructions to the recruits. It would be their first battle. And with luck, they would survive it.

With luck and Yun.

De-Yong finally felt good and strong again for days. All fatigue was gone and he was ready to take on all the samurai out there.

However, it was not in his nature to sacrifice his life senselessly. He wanted to take as many enemies as possible with him to their deaths. His life would end here and now, one way or another.

His bitter grin made a terrifying sight on his bloodied face. But there was no one left alive in the hut who could have seen it.

The interpreter lay dead on the ground, as did the poor Korean farmer.

De-Yong’s attack on the Japanese man happened so quickly that he didn’t even scream for help before De-Yong broke his neck.

And none of the guards outside seemed to have noticed anything.

Nevertheless, De-Yong reassured himself and peered outside through cracks in the planks. All around the hut, the samurai crouched, all about 4-5 paces away from the hut. An impenetrable ring of guards.

He carefully withdrew and thought about what he could do.

The miko would return at some point.

Overpowering her shouldn’t be a problem as long as she was alone. However, she would grasp the situation at a glance if she came in now.

So De-Yong took the interpreter’s body and leaned it against the wall, as if he had fallen asleep.

Then he gathered some blankets and stuffed his blanket so that, at least at first glance, it looked as if he was still lying there.

He left the body of the unfortunate farmer unchanged.

He was finally satisfied with his work.

But how was he able to escape from the hut unnoticed?

His gaze fell on the low roof.

Breaking through there shouldn’t be difficult. However, achieving this silently should be.

And once on the roof, all the guards outside would see him immediately. He would only be able to do that at night.

Where was this miko? Would she return with the officer?

In the cramped hut, the officer’s katana was not an excessive threat to De-Yong. It was not possible to reach far here. But any loud fighting would attract more samurai.

So he could only hope that the miko would return alone and that he could overpower her silently. However, she now had the strength of a kumiho, which would make that difficult.

Suddenly, De-Yong paused.

What powers did she have?

Na-Ris or Yuns?

Here, in this sphere, Na-Ri was one demon among many. With many facets.

But one feeling was overpowering here: hatred! Hatred threatened to overwhelm Na-Ri, to erase her personality. If she didn’t return to the mortal world soon, she would become a completely different person.

It had taken centuries for her to develop something like human compassion. And as easy as a life without guilt seemed, she didn’t want to go back there. Also because then it could become difficult for her to live by the goddess’s standards and keep her tails.

She searched inside herself for something that could withstand the hatred.

To her surprise, she found De-Yong there.

She loved him?

Na-Ri came to a decision. Before she returned, she wanted to get in touch with De-Yong again. To tell him how sorry she was about everything and that she was infinitely grateful to him.

So she let her mind wander and searched for the connection to her pearl in him. Now that she was no longer trapped in the big eater, she was able to do this quite easily.

But something was wrong.

Stunned, she realized what it was.

Her pearl was no longer in De-Yong!

How could this happen?

She contacted Yun to find out what had happened. She quickly found out what had happened.

Once she had mentally detached herself from her sister again, Na-Ri had to think the whole thing over.

She would not kill De-Yong when she returned, which made her very happy.

But she would return surrounded by enemies.

Without orientation and completely helpless.

To find out more, she felt for her pearl in the enemy’s body. Unnoticed, she watched and listened to what the enemies were doing and discussing with each other. Her Japanese had never been as good as her sister’s, but through the intensive spiritual contact with Yun recently, they had exchanged their knowledge.

Both sisters had the same knowledge.

The danger of such a total connection of thoughts was that you lost your individuality.

At the moment, without a body in the human world to stabilize her, Na-Ri could hardly tell whether she was still Na-Ri or Yun. She was both and neither at the same time.

She found it difficult to concentrate on her own being. A sign that they must not hesitate to return through the gate now. If she missed this moment, it could be too late.

She needed to know where she would appear, and in whom.

She felt her way into the enemy’s mind.

Taka was furious: “Woman, why are you defying my command? Why don’t you give me the power?”

Teiko lowered her head, bowed to the ground and desperately begged for forgiveness.

“I have tried it. That’s exactly how I received the power. I have no idea why it didn’t go to you.”

Taka remained silent.

This strength, this power. Within reach. And now it was supposed to fail because of this incompetent miko?

Had he been deceived?

No, he didn’t believe that. The miko had obeyed him so far and resisting him would be her death sentence.

“We’ll try again,” Taka finally decided.

“But let’s eat something first.”

Teiko nodded in agreement, but inwardly doubted that she could succeed this time. Something was different than when she had been united with the prisoner.

But first she got dressed to make her master something to eat.

As she stepped out of the tent, she felt the eyes of the men around her on her. It was partly envy and jealousy of Taka, but also greed and lust in the looks of these men, which made her shudder.

However, as a miko, she was untouchable for these men.

As long as Taka, who commanded these men, was alive, she was safe.

Caught off guard, Teiko paused.

Why was she thinking about it? Why was she thinking about the death of her daimyo?

The warming power of the pearl inside her, the tangible strength, that felt good and right. Without Taka, she could keep it.
