Shu turned towards the sunset. Not only did he want to get as far away from this treacherous demoness as possible, no, he would meet the samurai there. And they would certainly be interested in this lousy lieutenant.
They would behead the lieutenant and Ahri would have to flee.
With relish, he even imagined decapitating the lieutenant.
At night, he looked for a hidden place to camp and huddled together against the chill, too afraid to make a fire. What if the demoness was stalking him? She had drunk his blood. According to legend, she would find him again and again.
Finally, he fell into a restless sleep.
In the dream, he reunited with Ahri. She was so beautiful. Naked, she squatted on him. Her firm breasts invitingly in front of his face. But as he prepared to take her in his hands, caress and knead her, Ahri suddenly sprouted seven fox tails and her enchanting face turned into a fox head. She opened her maw and bared a predator’s teeth, with which she threatened to devour him.
Drenched in sweat and shivering with horror and cold, he woke up.
Further sleep was out of the question. So he waited for the first light of dawn and continued on his way.
Away, only away from this horrible demoness and her disgusting lover. This demon cave.
At midday on the third day, after another almost sleepless night, he met the samurai.
And they were very interested in what he had to tell them.
It was midday on the second day after the pact when Yun suddenly felt a familiar, painful tug. Na-Ri sought contact. Yun immediately separated herself from the others and looked for a secluded spot to reunite with her sister in her thoughts.
“Yun, at last,” Na-Ri said instead of a greeting. “I’ve already tried to contact you several times. But the Big Eater realized we were planning something and managed to disrupt the connection!”
“By the goddess, are you all right?” asked Yun anxiously.
“Yes, it’s all right, I’ll show you.”
Now the sisters switched to the mental level of spirit merging and both experienced everything that had happened in the meantime at the same time.
Na-Ri had managed to get many powerful fellow prisoners on her side. And together they had devised a strategy. What they still lacked, however, was the strength to implement their plan.
The Big Eater would assume that they simply wanted to break out, but that they wanted to attack his own essence had hopefully remained hidden from him. Now it had to be quick.
“I need the power, now, and as much as you can get!” Na-Ri pleaded urgently.
Yun detached himself from the connection and crouched there for a few moments, somewhat disoriented. The change of perception was always violent. Finally she had collected herself again and jumped up to hurry to De-Yong.
He was in the process of teaching the recruits how to use simple bamboo lances. Although they were simple weapons, they were very effective against mounted samurai. It was crucial that they were pointed forward at the right moment, at the right angle and very firmly.
They were also useful in close combat, but could easily be cut through by swords. Furthermore, the simple points could not penetrate armor. Sharp iron blades were needed for this.
But De-Yong’s main concern was the samurai’s arquebuses. There was no suitable protection against these weapons, as he had learned for himself. And many soldiers who heard the sound of these weapons for the first time and saw their comrades being hit by them immediately fled.
The simple bows he would have made next were no match for them, but they might be useful in the forest and from cover.
When he suddenly saw Yun running towards him, he was immediately alarmed.
“Samurai coming?” he asked anxiously.
“No, Na-Ri has contacted me. The time has come. Now, right now!”
Confused, he stared at her for a moment before he realized what she meant.
“Men,” he called the recruits together, “I have something to do with Yun now that will take some time. Mok will supervise your exercises. Yun and I will retire to the hut and must not be disturbed at all, no matter what! And no matter what you hear, no one gets in there!”
The recruits looked at each other uncertainly.
Yun tugged on De-Yong’s sleeve to make him lean towards her.
“It won’t be enough, I need more blood!” she whispered to him.
De-Yong tightened up again.
“One more thing: Yun and I have a mission to complete in the spirit world. It’s about Yun’s sister Na-Ri, the Kumiho of the Wind, who is still being held captive there at the moment. We need a lot of strength for this. Which of you will volunteer more blood so that we can successfully complete our mission?”
Yun stared at him bitterly. Did he have to blab everything? What if they refused now? But now it was too late.
But to their amazement, they all stepped forward.
“We are at your disposal, mighty Yun!” declared Mok proudly and full of confidence.
“Excellent!” De-Yong praised her. “Yun, would you please?” he invited her.
She gave De-Yong an evil glare, then turned to the recruits with a smile.
“Thank you, also on behalf of my sister. I assure you, this will be highly appreciated! Mok, step forward!”
Without hesitation, Mok stepped in front of Yun and leaned forward a little so that the smaller woman could reach his neck better.
“Don’t be frightened, I’ll take a lot more from you than I did a few days ago, but I won’t harm you. If you feel a little woozy for a while afterwards, that’s perfectly normal,” Yun explained to him, but loud enough for everyone else to hear.
Mok nodded to show that he had understood.
