Dealing with her troublesome nature was a small price to pay, I thought, but maybe that would change.
The girls started whispering things into each other’s ears as I continued giving Ruby a scolding look. They were giggling quietly. Their faces are grinning. They were plotting something. I did not doubt that for a second. I needed to use the bathroom, so I left as they kept laughing and giggling with each other.
On the way, I stopped to check in on my soon-to-be ex-wife and my teenage daughter. Lily had a headset on. I know she noticed me, but the girl didn’t make a move to take them off.
“Enjoying the flight?” I asked Kate.
“You know I hate flying, Andrew. Why would I be enjoying it?” she said with a roll of the eyes.
Geez! I guess it did cross my mind that Kate always got grumpy on planes. I smiled and left, heading to the bathroom while shaking my head. Kate and Lily weren’t all that different from each other. She was her mother’s daughter for sure.
