Chapter 9: The Pilgrimage
Fiction Sex Story: Chapter 9: The Pilgrimage - Siblings Emma and Mike Baker, high school students, live in a tiny city apartment with their two parents. Surprise! After three years of exile there, they're returning to their suburban house, and reconnecting with their next-door neighbors and friends, Dora and Paul Lincoln. All four are similar ages, but puberty has changed them. A lot. Their four parents are reconnecting too. The Lincolns have added a pool, and some pineapple-themed decor. Hmm.

A couple of days after Emma arrived, she asked if we could go out on Dot’s front porch for a private meeting.
She began, “I was really upset and emotional when I first got up here and talked with you. I’m worried that I let my emotions run away with me, and overstated things. Mike, Dad is not an ogre. Yes, he’s had more and more trouble with his self control this year. I don’t know why. But it was only in those couple of days when you walked away from us that I thought he was close to a true explosion.”
“He frightened you.”
“That’s exactly right. Honestly, I’d never seen him like that before.”
“Emma, I had the same feeling when he brought my clothes. He could barely look at my face.”
“What I’m trying to say is, since then, Dad has been better—he’s been in control of his temper and his moods. I still think about those couple of days frequently, but I can’t say he’s felt like a threat to me or to Mom.”
“Thank you for telling me.”
Emma and Paul had been with us for a full week when Dot decided she was ready to go to my home on Ash Street and discuss the future with my parents. That is, my future. I have to say, the four of us were getting along well while living with Dot.
On the other hand, Paul was away from his family, and I know Em was missing Mom. Our feelings about Dad were, I guess, complicated. And yet, he was still our father. Only in recent months had his personality and behavior degraded, and those issues were inconsistent. “Old Dad” was still in there, I felt.
I didn’t want to give up on him. My improved chemistry made me open to hopeful possibilities, I thought.
At dinner, Dot announced she would be leaving after breakfast.
I asked, “Auntie, please take me with you.”
“Are you sure? When you first arrived here, you acted like you wanted a clean break from your past. You know, Emma said recently she didn’t want to cause you to slip backward. I know you’ve made a lot of progress living up here with me. Are you sure going back to your house tomorrow is the right step?”
“I think if I go down there, and then come back here with you, I can stay in control of myself. I know Mom and I are missing each other. I think Dad does, too. I have to believe he’s had a chance to, I guess, reflect. I hope so.”
Emma said, “I know Mom thinks about you every day. I agree, you should go with Dot tomorrow. And Mike?”
“Yeah?”
“Please go next door and talk to Dora. She’s been asking about you.”
“Paul, does your sister own any weapons, a taser, or bear spray?”
“Not that I know of. Mike, I guarantee, the worst she would do is put her knee in your balls.”
“Oh, shit!” Reflexively, I covered my crotch with my hands.
He continued, “After that, she would kiss them better, I promise.”
Dot laughed. “I want to meet Dora. She sounds like my kind of girl.”
I relaxed and took away my hands. Leave it Paul to help break my tension.
Dot turned to Emma and Paul with a scornful look.
“Listen, you two. After we drive off in the morning, I want you to clean up my guest room and wash the sheets. It smells like a Louisiana whorehouse in there.”
“Oh, my God!” squeaked Emma, putting her face in her hands, while Paul flushed scarlet.
Even allowing for Dot’s dawdling down the highway, after less than an hour she was pulling her Oldsmobile to the curb in front of our house. Mom rushed out to greet us, and I popped open the door and she wrapped me up, sniffling.
By far, this was the longest stretch of time we’d ever been apart.
“I’m so sorry, Mom. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“I know, honey. It’s all right. It’s so good to see you. You’re here for today?”
“That’s right.” She released me and turned to Dot.
“It’s great to see you.” They hugged, then Mom added, “Thank you for sheltering my stray lamb.”
“Lamb? More like an ox. My grocery bill has tripled, and that was before your daughter showed up with her giant omnivorous boyfriend.”
“Sorry, Dot. I feel your pain. Let’s go inside, before we give the neighbors even more of a show.”
We walked into the foyer. The house I’d grown up in still seemed different to me—smaller, perhaps. Dad was waiting for us in the living room, rising to his feet from his big reclining chair.
“Aunt Dorothy, Michael, it’s good to see you. Thank you for bringing him down with you.” Dad stood up, then stopped halfway, like he wasn’t sure whether he should hug me. We just looked at each other for a second too long. My throat went dry. I started talking simply because the silence felt like it might swallow me.
“I’m so sorry, Father. I shouldn’t have left without saying where I was...”
He held up his hand.
“Wait, please. I want to speak first. I had problems at work, and ... Let’s go sit in the kitchen; Ellie made coffee.”
I sat in my usual spot, as did Dad, while Dot went to the counter with Mom to help. Instead of cups and saucers, Mom used the regular mugs, and she put down mine with cream and sugar, so I smiled up at her for remembering.
