1st Sunday Afternoon at Lone Pine

On exiting Madeline’s office Kim said to Jan, Jen and Jo, “This is our main entrance and reception area. Typically, this area is only staffed when visitors are expected or a vehicle is detected on our lane.”

The entrance door was framed by two large windows that went from waist high to the ceiling. Looking out the windows, they could see the lane curve away from the entrance to the south out of sight. There was a parking area for a few cars. The drive continued on past the parking and around the east side of the building. The walk between the parking area and the entrance was covered and appeared to have wind breaks along both sides.

Jan queried, “How long is the lane?”

“A little over two miles to the county road. Cross country I’ve been told it is less than a mile and half.”

“Just how big is this place?” exclaimed Jen. “It’s been noted that we were near Sheridan Wyoming. I am not sure just where that is.”

Smiling Kim responded, “As noted earlier, the ranch is known as Lone Pine. We are northeast of Sheridan which is in northern in Wyoming not too far from the border with Montana.

“As to the ranch, how about a brief description now. Later when we visit the Security center, we can show you a map of the canyon and the surrounding area. Our primary interest is this canyon and the surrounding hills which is a small portion of the ranch. The bulk of the ranch acreage is leased to surrounding ranchers.”

“Fine,” responded Jan.

“This building is located on a fairly large plateau near the center of canyon which covers some 420 acres. The canyon floor is covered primarily by a variety of grasses. There are several wooded areas around the canyon floor was well as shelters for animals and hay. The canyon floor is surrounded by some fairly high hills that are mostly covered by trees and minimal brush. The area covered by the canyon floor and surrounding hills is around 1,385 acres. We don’t have any nearby neighbors as our canyon lies within a ranch that covers some 21,040 acres.”

“Wow,” responded Jan, Jen and Jo looking a little anxious.

Jan added, “So that is why it is two miles to the county road.”

“That is due to it not being a straight path. Straight line it is a little less than a mile and half. There are places on the county road where you can see this location. As noted earlier, our security concerns focus on this canyon and its surrounding hills.”

Jan said, “So from a security stand point, the focus is to identify anything within the canyon and near the buildings and determine its purpose.”

“From my perspective, pretty much. As you will see the approaches to this plateau are open. We are quite remote and have minimal interaction with the surrounding residents. Also the acreage with in the canyon surrounding this plateau is leased to a neighboring ranch. So there is some activity due to them caring for their cattle. The leases are handled by our parent organization.

“With respect to our facilities, there is a barn on the north side of this building which houses several horses. Adjacent to the barn is a pasture for the horses. One of the outside activities available to the residents is horseback riding. Excursions typically take place within the canyon area. We will visit the barn on our tour. While in the barn, I will point out the other out buildings. Due to the snow, I don’t see any need to visit them.”

“Interesting,” responded Jan. “So what is along this hall?”

In response to the question, Kim led them toward the building’s core, as she said, “We are currently in Hall A. Besides the administrator’s office, her suite, and reception area, it includes offices for staffing, accounting and purchasing.”

Nearing the Common area, she noted, “This door is to one of our conference rooms. It can also be entered from Hall B.”

Exiting the hall Kim continued with, “This area is referred to as the 1st floor Common area. Off this Common area, as we noted last night, we have seven corridors and access to the gym. The first corridor to our right is known as Hall B which has additional offices, most of which are used by the residents. Continuing around right to left are Halls C and D. Along each of those halls are four two room suites, where the staff reside. On entering Hall B the first door on the left and right is to a conference/general purpose room. The first door on the left along Hall C is a room is set up for the women to release their milk. The room can also be entered from Hall D through the first door on the right. Next is the dining room where we had breakfast, with the kitchen area at the far end. Next is Hall F, which includes the laundry, security center, clothing & etc store, locker room, supplies, and receiving. The next segment is the entrance to the gym and indoor pool area. The gym can also be reached through the Hall F locker room. Hall G is the medical facility where you were earlier.

“I know I described the layout earlier, but considering how tired we were, I thought, I should do it again.” After a moment Kim queried, “Questions?”

“Thanks for the refresher,” responded Jo.

Jen said, “I am surprised that the wing for the clinic isn’t noted as Hall H based on the number of faces the common area has.”

Kim then added, “Don’t know the why the halls are labeled as they are. There is a map of the site and this building in your room. A virtual tour can be accessed on the desktop computer in your room.”

“Great!” responded Jan.

Kim then led them over toward Hall F. When they visited the laundry room, Kim noted that the laundry was actually done in a room in the basement underneath them. From the laundry room they briefly visited the sundries/clothing store.

At the Security center entrance, Kim placed her hand on a pad next to the door, when the lock clicked she pushed open the door. As with their suite, Kim had Jan, Jen, and Jo place their hands of the door pad to give them access.

Sitting in front of the center console was a pregnant woman with a good size baby bump who said, “Good, you are here.”

“What’s up, Deanna?” responded Kim.

Turning her head, “My water broke. Oh, I thought you were Beth as she is coming to relieve me.”

“Did you contact the clinic?”

“Yes. Lauren is coming with a wheel chair.”

“So it hasn’t been very long.”

“Well it depends on your perspective. From mine, it has been a long time but probably only a few minutes.”

Just then the door lock clicked. Beth entered with Lauren following pushing a wheel chair.

Beth said, “When I saw you at lunch, it looked like you were close to birthing.”

“Well each time it has caught me unprepared, although I think I did better this time. I am sitting on wet towels with a plastic bag under them. So the seat should be fine this time.” Both Beth and Lauren chuckled.

Lauren assisted Deanna in moving over to the wheel chair. The towels were then placed in the bag that had been under them then placed on Deanna’s lap. Kim then opened to door for Lauren and Deanna so they could leave for the clinic.

Beth wiped the seat off with a paper towel before sitting down at the console. After a few moments, Kim said, “Beth, with me are Jan, Jen, and Jo.”

Smiling Beth said, “Good afternoon, and welcome to Lone Pine.”

“Good afternoon,” responded Jan, Jen, and Jo.

Kim said, “Would you give these ladies summary of what your are monitoring as well as your normal routine.”

“Sure.” She then began rotating the views on the very large monitors. As they changed, she noted the direction of the view from the main building and points of interest.

Kim then said, “Would you show the area map?”

“Sure.”

“This is map covers just the canyon and surrounding hills. Most of our active monitoring focuses on the southeast segment of field surrounding this building, which would be the mouth of the canyon. We do monitor the rest of the field around us up to this side of the surrounding hills. It is my understanding that our focus on the entrance to the canyon is based on a security threat assessment made sometime in the past.”

“Would there be a copy of the assessment available?” queried Jo.

“There should be,” responded Kim.

Beth added, “I think I saw something like that in the cabinet. When I have a break, I’ll look.”

“Great,” responded Jo. “No hurry.”

Kim said, “The rancher leasing the canyon floor typically has cattle here nearly year round. His ranch, the Bar H, is the land on the other side of the county road at our entrance. Besides the canyon floor, his lease area runs along both sides of the lane to the county road. I presume his lease includes more acreage.

“To me our focus on the mouth of the canyon makes some sense, due to the canyon being surrounded by fairly tall hills. On this side, the hills are either a steep rocky slope or it is a cliff. The slope is steep enough that the rancher opted not to fence the edge of the canyon floor. Live stock seldom attempt to climb the hillside, and it can be difficult to get horses to make the climb. The hill sides are covered with a lot of trees and minimal brush, however the brush along the boundary between the hillside and canyon floor is thick.

“This building sits on a small plateau and faces southeast. The canyon floor is a slightly rolling and generally slopes toward a creek on the right or northeast side. The creek begins at a water fall toward the north end.”

Beth noted, “Recently some of us think we’re seeing indications of activity at a couple of places on the hill side. It is frequent and occurs at nearly the same time of day when it is warm outside. Some have speculated that we are being monitored. Our uncertainty on the type of activity is due to image resolution and sensitivity of our cameras. We know that there are caves and some are noted on the map. So it could be animals, but...”

“Do check all quadrants?” inquired Jo.

“Yes, but the front quadrant is primary. Let me put the map back up, then rotate through the views again. As the views shift, the viewing area will be highlighted on the map.”

After being shown the sequence of views, Jo said, “I presume you use IR cameras at night.”

“Yes.”

“Is there any other type intrusion detection?”

“Not that I am aware of,” responded Kim.

“Are any areas inside the building monitored?”

“Yes, but not actively.”

“Okay. Thanks.”

“It looks like fairly good coverage,” noted Jan.

“But there are weaknesses,” said Kim with a bit of concern.

Smiling Jan said, “There always are. To determine whether they are significant, it would take an in depth evaluation. A matrix of intrusion sensors augmenting the cameras would be a fairly easy option to implement. Considering the surroundings, they could be susceptible to false alarms due to animals.”

Jo asked, “Since some consider this location as being in a canyon, what is the surrounding terrain like?”

Kim responded, “The other side of the surrounding hills are not nearly as steep as this side. Beyond that it is rolling terrain. A lot of it is pasture along with some crop land. Shall we continue our tour?”

“Beth, it was nice to meet you,” said Jan as they headed toward the door.

“Same here,” she responded. “See you around.”

Leaving the Security center, they turned left toward the locker room. From there they went into the gym and pool area. After walking around the gym and pool area, they exited into the common area. From there, they took the elevator up to the second floor. On the second floor, they visited several suites to see the different arrangements. In doing so, they met and briefly chatted with several residents.

Next Kim took them to the play room. Kim smiled on seeing the expressions of the three when they saw all the devices. Kim said, “Besides satisfying our lust with some one in our suite, we can also do that in here. Most of the mechanical dildos can be set up to eject a warm fluid which is to mimic the real thing. The sensations are pretty realistic. These devices can only be used when there is at least one person observing.”

Jan, Jen, and Jo walked around the room taking a closer look at each of the set ups. They noticed that each one had a panic button.

As they started to leave, Kim added, “In your suite’s dresser, there are a variety of sex toys, primarily dildos, and other toys.”

“I noticed some women had something glittering at their crotch,” said Jen.

“Some wear jewelry in and around their crotch. Due to lactating, nipple piercing is not acceptable. For similar reasons, navel and labia piercings are not acceptable. These are all due to the potential for infections and complications.”

“That makes sense,” said Jen. “Although, I never thought about wearing crotch jewelry.”

Jo laughed then added, “Well until now, you were never casually naked. Combined with a necklace, it looks pretty nice.”

“I agree. If I had some I might try it before we leave.”

Kim said, “Some of the residents wear micro-dermal jewelry. Nancy isn’t very keen on it, again due to the potential for infections. You might want to check out the store on the first level, as they have a selection of jewelry. Although we didn’t do more than glance at them, you may want to visit the store as it has a selection of all kinds of apparel as well as access to other sources. There is a section for intimate and personal needs.”

Next they visited the exercise room. Along two walls were two elliptical, two climber and two bikes. About half the floor was covered with mats. Jen said, “This seems like an odd combination.”

“It is,” replied Kim. “The mat area is primarily used for Tai Chi or other similar exercises done individually or in pairs. While martial art exercises are permitted in here, sparing is not recommended due to the limited floor area and the surrounding equipment. There is a community Tai Chi session first thing in the morning in the gym.”

Next they visited a room set up for the women to release their milk. On entering Kim said, “We have three rooms set aside for residents to let down their milk. There are two on this floor and one on the first floor. They can also do it in their suite. As you can see by using the frames, they can either stand or kneel. In both cases, they lean forward to place their breasts in the cups with their shoulders and head resting on the padded support. While the bent over positioning has a negative perception, most find it more comfortable than trying to do it while sitting. Although everyone finds sitting with a baby latched on to your nipple much more satisfying. In either case, it is quite an arousing experience.”

From the 2nd floor they rode the elevator down to the basement for a quick look around then on down to the sub basement via the stairs. Here they were shown the tunnel entrances used to reach the various buildings. Kim said, “You may remember some of this from last night as we used a tunnel to reach this location from the garage. One tunnel goes to the barn and the others to two caves. The tunnels to the caves have a cross connections so that it is not necessary to come all the way back to this location to reach the other cave.

“In the barn, we have horses and riding gear. There is a storage area next to it for horse and cattle feed. On the side of the barn is a shelter for our small herd of cattle. The herd is large enough to provide us with all of our beef.

“Further away on the westside of the canyon are two fairly large underground caves. One cave is set up to function as an emergency shelter. It has a hidden escape tunnel. The second cave contains the site’s power generation equipment and I believe there is an emergency exit. Even though we are connected to the power grid, we can be self sufficient if necessary. A portion of the emergency shelter contains a mirror of our network with limited back up power. Do you want to see all of them?”

Jen looked at Jan and Jo, then said, “At least the caves and the primary server room.”

“There doesn’t seem to be any labels,” noted Jo.

“Unless you are a resident, you won’t see any. However, your bracelets give you the same access as a resident. For now, it would be preferable to have a resident accompany you if you go to any of the satellite locations. Let’s visit the power cave first.”

After Kim walked a short way into the tunnel a dim light appeared on the floor a short distance in front of her. With each step more of the path light illuminated. By the time they reached the power equipment, Jan estimated that they had walked about about a kilometer. While there weren’t any sharp turns, she knew wasn’t a straight line as because when she looked back the entrance was no longer visible.

They took a quick look at the equipment, then Kim led them back the way they came. They were about a third of the way back when Kim led them into a side tunnel. After a short distance, they turned right into another tunnel. The emergency shelter was a short distance from the cross tunnel. There they looked at the accommodations then spent most of their time examining the network and communication equipment.

Kim said, “When you’re ready, we can return to the main building then visit the barn. After a brief stop there, we can head back. It is a little over a kilometer back to the building. The connection between the tunnels is about 400 meters long. The tunnel from the main building to the barn is about 400 meters long.”

As they were walking back Jan said, “Kim some of this looks like it was built a long time ago.”

“A good observation. Most of this was designed and built more than 110 years ago by an eccentric individual. They obviously had a lot of money. It was intended to be a vacation home as well as a refuge for the family. After it was completed, we understand that they only lived here occasionally for short periods of time. Some time after he passed away, the estate put it up for sale. Eventually the estate donated it to a fraternal organization. The fraternal organization intended to use the main building as a retreat for their members. They added to and updated this building. After that they used it several times before closing it up. Around twenty years ago, our sponsoring organization became aware of its availability. After an evaluation, it was deemed ideal for their purpose, primarily due to its remoteness and self sufficiency. A downside was that the winter weather here is harsher than was originally desired. So they bought it and paid the back taxes. I’ve heard that at least one county resident was unhappy as they were waiting for the county to seize it then sell it for back taxes.

“In remodeling the building, they included extensive updates as well as expanding it. This was done in a way that minimized locals knowing of the increased activity or the changes made to the building. Obviously, those leasing the adjacent pasture may have noted the increased activity, but I understand that they didn’t have a herd in the canyon at that time.

“Of course the locals who remember its presence, think of this as a white elephant, that was built by someone with more money than sense. The public records now indicate that this is a home for unwed mothers which is true as far as it goes. Even so we go to considerable effort to avoid drawing any attention. County is happy as the taxes are paid. We do some shopping in town, but most of our purchases are bought and then shipped here via private carrier. This avoids indicating how many live here.”

“Thanks for the history.”

“Here are the steps up to the barn. Lets go up.”

They walked around the barn. Jo petted a couple of the horses before they returned to the tunnel entrance.

Back in the subbasement of the main building Kim said, “It will be dinner time shortly, so why don’t I walk with you back to your room. You will have plenty of time to clean up before dinner and I will see there.”

“Kim, can we see the server room?” queried Jan.

“Oops sorry. It is back this way.” Kim led them a short distance down a corridor with storage shelves on one side then through an unmarked door in to a small room. Once they were all inside she closed the door then placed her hand on a pad causing a panel to slide back to reveal the serve room. “We are under Hall A and now facing toward the Common area. This area extends back under to building’s core. Let’s take a quick look around then you can explore this evening or tomorrow.”

“Fine,” replied Jo. “Will the panel open for us.”

“Yes. With respect to the servers you have unlimited viewing access. If you find an issue needing attention, let me know so we can resolve it. We can check your access on the way out.”

When they reached the main floor, Kim said, “Unless you have more questions, let’s freshen up for dinner.”

“Thank you for the tour,” said Jen with Jan and Jo nodding agreement. “Now all we need to do is avoid being lost in the maze.”

Everyone laughed then Kim said, “I think you all will do just fine. Feel free to call me, if you need anything. I am sure the other residents will be pleased to assist you. By them assisting you, it will give you a better sense of our environment.”

“I meant to ask this earlier, but who currently handles your server admin?” queried Jo.

“Routine stuff, I do. There are several residents who can assist me with hardware and software issues. We also have a contract with a service for more serious issues, which they prefer to handle remotely. When they do visit, it is usually lengthy and expensive due to them not being familiar with the site.”

“Thanks,” said Jo. “See you at dinner.”
