Monday morning, Jed arrived at Nexlify’s headquarters, his mind still reeling but his focus sharpening. His corner office awaited, the city skyline a stark reminder of the stakes he now played for. He dove into the financials, analyzing cash flow projections and preparing for a strategy session with Marcus, but the undercurrent of the previous week pulsed beneath his professional facade. Every email from Elise carried a suggestive undertone, every glance from Sasha in the hallway felt like a dare, and the anticipation of meeting The Duck lingered.

A few minutes before noon, Elise knocked on his door, her black dress hugging her curves, her auburn hair loose and inviting.

“Marcus wants you in the executive suite at noon,” she said, her voice professional but her eyes gleaming with mischief. “Strategy meeting. And a private debrief.”

“Sounds good. Hey, real quick, what can you tell me about The Duck?”

“All I can say is that his name is Theo and he is our lead data scientist and that some things you just have to see and experience for yourself,” she replied.

“Okay. So why is he called The Duck?”

Elise snickered. “Like I said, you’ll have to see for yourself. Might be sooner than you think. Come on, Marcus will be waiting.”

Jed followed her, his pulse quickening as they headed down the hallway. Just as they approached the door, Jed heard his name from behind him.

“Hey Lambert. Wait up!”

Jed turned to see who was calling, hearing Elise whisper, “That’s Theo. I’ll meet you inside.”

Jed did a quick double take. That is the guy they call The Duck? Seriously?

Theo was in his late thirties, standing at 5’4” with a lean, wiry frame that made him look like he could have been a jockey in another life. His pale skin clashed with his jet-black hair, cropped short but slightly tousled, giving him an air of calculated disarray. His face was angular, with high cheekbones and a sharp jawline. His eyes were his dominant feature, piercing gray like storm clouds, with an intensity that seemed to see through people, pinning them in place. A faint scar ran along his left eyebrow, adding a touch of rugged mystery to his otherwise polished appearance.

“You must be Theo,” Jed stated as he stuck out his hand.

“Yeah, that’s me,” Theo replied, giving no indication that he was interested in a handshake. “You’re good with numbers, Lambert, but numbers don’t run this place. Loyalty does.” His gray eyes bore into Jed’s, hinting at a hidden agenda. “Fuck up, and you’re out. No matter how well you play.”

Before Jed could respond, Theo moved past him through the open doorway into the suite, Jed following quickly behind. It was a sleek, private room adjacent to Marcus’s office, with a long conference table, a bar, and a discreet door that Jed suspected led to another playroom. Marcus was already there, joined by Sasha and Elise.

“Jed, let’s talk growth,” Marcus began, sliding a tablet across the table with projections for Nexlify’s AI expansion.

The discussion was sharp, focused on market penetration, R&D budgets, and competitive analysis. Jed offered insights, his expertise anchoring the conversation, but Theo’s silence was unnerving, his eyes locked on Jed as if testing him. Sasha’s contributions were incisive, her strategic mind as sharp as her body, while Elise took notes, her pen gliding with a sensuality that distracted Jed.

As the meeting wrapped, Marcus leaned back, his smile returning. “Good work, Jed. You’re already proving your worth. Now, for the debrief.” He nodded to Theo, who stood, his movements deliberate, his gaze commanding the room.

“Stand,” Theo ordered, his voice low but absolute.

Jed rose, as did Sasha and Elise, the air shifting from corporate to carnal in an instant. Theo stepped closer, his presence overwhelming, his eyes boring into Jed’s.

“Marcus says you did well last week,” he said, his tone both praise and challenge. “But the inner circle demands more. Show me you can keep up.”

Before Jed could respond, Theo grabbed Elise by the waist, lifting her onto the conference table with ease.

“Bring it,” she whispered, her voice low but firm, inviting his intensity.
