Chapter 84: Impending Disaster

What am I going to do? Could I maneuver the tubes better? Can I make myself smaller and dart through the cables to reach the critical one?
David left his body and imagined himself small.
It didn’t work.
What now?
He imagined himself shrinking.
Great, it worked!
David transported himself into the right sinus in his forehead. It was dark.
No, it is not the right sinus. I must hurry; time is running out! It is the forehead. That was where I felt the pain. It must be the left. If not, I will try my cheeks.
David transported himself into his left sinus and jumped to the lighted area. The box was much smaller than he expected. The strings were barely visible. He must shrink himself further.
David shrank himself to a tenth of his previous size, then lifted one of the curved tubes off the floor. David found the mantra he needed to enter the dimension Ruyunut.
David tried but couldn’t find a way to move the curved tub between the web of micro-cables to reach the critical cable without disturbing them.
David lay on the ground and tried again. He found a clear path but needed a straight tube. David darted to pick up the device he wanted and jumped.
Time was running out fast. David slipped and drew the device along the ground. He smelled burning, then sheer agony.
There was no alternative. David pushed, but the tube went under the rope. He withdrew it and then elevated the cutter and prodded the strand. He finally burned through the string. This was hard!
Now I must get the others. David walked around the cube to find where the first cable was cut. Now I must cut the bottom ones first and keep moving anti-clockwise.
David found the first cable and could easily access it, but the tube didn’t work.
The tubes only work in Ruyunut.
David jumped out, reverted to full size, and pulled out his sword. He looked at his watch before shrinking himself and his sword and jumping back into his sinus. Once he reached the box, he shrank himself further.
Some cables extended into the black distance.
David jumped close to the first cable he must cut and invoked his powers. The sword glowed and cut through the first cable like butter. He jumped past a line blocking him from a rope tight to the ground. As he sliced it, he cut too deeply and burned his sinus. A tiny blood vessel spurted. Oh my God—what pain!
I don’t have the time to sear it.
He cut the third one carefully.
Now, I must cut the middle ones.
The top cables were over his head, so cutting the middle ones was easy. I have thirty seconds.
Now, let me get to the top ones.
David doubled his size, then raced around, cutting the last cables.
I did it with thirteen seconds left on the clock.
Whew! The blood vessel continued to send up a plume of spray.
David walked over and inserted his heated sword into the cut. The spray reduced and finally stopped. Then the pain hit him. It hurt like the fires of hell, much worse than before. David felt faint. He must make himself safe.
David transported himself out of his sinus, carrying the box. He placed it on the table inside a container. Then he returned to his standard size, put away his sword, released his body from the clamps, and re-entered his body.
The pain in his sinus was excruciating!
‘Ow, that hurts like hell! It’s odd; I felt the pain in my ghost state.’
David rubbed his throbbing sinus and walked toward the door he thought was open. He opened it and found himself in another section of the hospital. It was filled with machinery but had a colossal viewport. Earth was in the center of the picture. David saw the Pacific Ocean, Australia, New Zealand, the tip of California, and most of South America. He pulled out his communicator and spoke urgently before an image formed.
“Ash, we’re orbiting Earth along the lines of longitude. I can see Earth clearly and unequivocally. We are between Australasia and South America; now I can see California. I’m fine; how are you?” David asked as a hologram formed.
