‘The Drunduh will take half an hour to drill down to Vorgaruhm. While that happens, look at what is happening on Uyskeczbek.’
The Admiral switched the images. Two hundred drop-ships dropped outside the periphery of the fake city.
‘The Drunduh started with three thousand two hundred and sixty-two drop-ships. Enemy gunships came in low over the horizon and attacked the ground batteries. The Drunduh lost thousands of gunships, but they have temporary air superiority.’
‘You haven’t deployed your fighters or gunships,’ said Brendan. ‘I suspect you have more hidden batteries, and your people are waiting to see what happens. You guys are very clever. You run no significant risk, and you are creating a killing zone in which you face little risk to your people or troops.’
Dorel grinned. ‘We fought these bastards for a long time. We had plenty of time to plot and plan. This is not the first time they invaded one of our planets. They tried many times. The Drunduh from Galaxy Glerfos are more effective but haven’t changed their tried and tested techniques. The Drunduh specializes in ground assaults and hunting down their prey. We use their skills against them.’
“What do you mean?” Ashlyn asked.
“The fake underground city is deeper than it first appears. The Drunduh will dig downward as long as they detect life signs. The life signs go deeper as the enemy gets close to them. The Drunduh will continue to pursue the life signs despite all the traps and explosives we use. They will see some of our soldiers in the fake city, but they will escape through portals as the enemy approaches. We will trap millions of them before we blow up the cavern,’ said Dridget. ‘I worked on the deeper extensions of the fake city for a year. We produced many realistic illusions to excite the interest of the Drunduh. They don’t like to leave until they find every single living being. Yes, the Drunduh do hit and run, but they first seek out their prey and chase it down.’
