Chapter 71: The Sugigoth Resurrection?

Brendan opened his eyes within a minute. The others returned almost as soon as he did. ‘There is something funny going on!’
‘All I saw was trouble on the ship. Makuto, can you be sure you removed the Overseer?’ David asked.
‘I was asking myself the same question. I thought I did. Could I have removed the Queen or part of the Overseer?” Makuto closed her eyes, and when she opened them, she opened them wide. “It’s been nagging at me. The damn Overseer has probably fooled me. It pretended it was the Queen. The Queen was successfully fighting against it,” said Makuto. “I can feel the Queen’s memories.’
One of the Dulmeliv colonels opened the door. ‘The Overseer took over the medical area. It killed almost all on the bridge. It took control of many Dulmeliv en route and is now on the bridge. The Dulmeliv guard the bridge while the Overseer starts up the engines.’
‘Thank you for alerting us. How many Sutromia troops do we have onboard?’ David asked.
‘We only have a thousand.’
‘Make sure the Dulmeliv stay out of range and move up the Sutromia. Send some to guard engineering and the armory. Do you know if you have other reptile troops?’ David asked. ‘If you deploy them behind the Sutromia, make sure the engineers shut down the engines when the Overseer fires them up.’
‘Do you know what has happened to Gen. Vendelin Mogmir?’ Brendan asked.
‘They captured him on the bridge. I believe he is alive,’ said the colonel.
“Colonel, return to your troops,” said David.
After the colonel left, David suggested they move to their rooms, lock the doors, and leave their bodies behind. The group met up as XaX outside Brendan’s room.
‘I made sure the colonel was not under the Overseer’s control,’ said David. ‘Now, we must regain control. I will tackle the Overseer; I’ve had the most experience. Let’s work inward from the periphery. Use the method pioneered by Makuto, but I suggest you weaken them as much as possible first. Dorel, take Messa and Dridget and make sure we don’t have Dulmeliv under the control of the Overseer. Prepare the XaXlets for action.”
‘I will start in front of the bridge. Brendan can take the starboard, and you, David, and Makuto deal with the port side. Most of the guards will be clustered near the doors on the port side,’ said Ashlyn.
They jumped. Brendan found that the Overseer’s influence was more pervasive than expected. Makuto’s instructions were valuable, enabling him to make steady progress. Brendan sent the Dulmeliv he freed to the other end of the ship. He completed the job and joined David and Makuto, who decontaminated sixty Dulmeliv.
When they were almost finished, two Dulmeliv left the bridge to look for the enemy.
‘The Overseer is aware of us!’ Brendan exclaimed, jumping behind one of the emerging Dulmeliv. ‘Let’s not waste time; disable them.’
Ashlyn jumped on the second one, removed its energy, and decontaminated it. She took the weapon and placed it in her transdim space. ‘This is an odd ghost body. I can pick up objects.’
Brendan did the same as his sister, sending both guards out of range. ‘The Overseer is panicking. It is trying to locate us and knows it has lost control of many of its guards.’
‘There are twenty guards inside. I’ve taken control of five so far and removed their energy. The Overseer is trying to find me. I can dodge it and hide my mind. The Overseer took back control of several drained guards. It does not realize I disabled them and removed their weapons. I suggest Brendan and David attack the Overseer while Ashlyn and I weaken the rest of the guards and take control. Then, when the guards are under our influence, David tackles the Overseer while we protect him,’ said Makuto. ‘I suggest one of you weakens the Overseer while the other hits its mind. Weaken it first. Keep the XaXlets in reserve in case we run into trouble. I don’t want them to kill Dulmeliv unnecessarily. We must instruct them in Makuto’s method.”
‘David, you go for its mind, but if you need help, let me know,’ said Brendan. ‘I’ll signal when I have removed much of its power.’
Brendan waved a minute later.
