Chapter 47: The Councilors
Science Fantasy Sex Story: Chapter 47: The Councilors - Three young people represent Earth in a battle with our powerful ancestors who seeded us and terraformed Earth. It is a battle against people who believe Earth has lost its way, and they intend to destroy Earth if it does not comply. They are so far ahead of us that they are Godlike but are biased and irrational and prepared to inflict pain without compunction.

‘The Council members left this morning after a formal meeting with us,’ said the liaison Queen. “They were not happy with the outcome of yesterday. The meeting was uncomfortable.’
‘You were a society frozen waiting for change. You embraced change and raced ahead when you saw the signals you sought,’ said Brendan. ‘They, like you, are frozen and beginning to decay, but they won’t recognize the facts before them. They saw the signs of impending change and are fighting against it. They run from the opportunities and attack those who are the heralds of change,’ said Brendan.
‘For one so young, you show signs of great wisdom, all of you do,’ said the Queen. ‘What will lead the Council to accept change?’
Brendan laughed. ‘The Council will learn bitter lessons only after they face disaster and great pain. Our situation forced us to examine everything we knew and believed. The Council will not change when faced with an important truth. Some crises will occur sooner or later. There will be an internal crisis, or the Drunduh will force them to push through the impasse. It is more likely to be an external problem in the short term.’
‘I am happy to resign as a herald for the Paradigm,’ said David.
‘It’s too late. You can’t un-herald yourself,’ Ashlyn laughed.
‘Where are Atra and Imra?’ David asked.
‘They should be back soon; they went back to brief their parents shortly before the assassination attempt. They will be back with Adaobi and Tame in a couple of hours,’ said Brendan.
‘I have a horrible feeling something bad will happen,’ said David.
Brendan and Ashlyn closed their eyes. A few minutes later, Ashlyn opened her eyes.
‘I also feel it,’ said Ashlyn, ‘I suspect it is the Drunduh making a move somewhere.’
‘Yes, I can also feel a severe and imminent threat. It is not here; the danger is somewhere else,’ said Brendan.
‘I will speak with the Supreme Queen immediately,’ said the senior Queen, striding toward the portal. The Queen paused and returned. ‘What if the Drunduh attack the Paradigm? Should we help them?’
‘That an awful choice but not for us to make. We cannot say which path to choose. If you help the Paradigm, you will save lives today, but more will die in the long term as they will blame you as they blame us for their problems and will not do what they must. If you don’t help them, they must make hard decisions. They must decide if they ask for help. They probably will not learn from the first disaster, but they will be better people when they resolve to move on. I suggest the Supreme Queen asks Adaobi and Tame as they know the Council well, and they can help her decide,’ said Brendan.
‘David, what do you and Ashlyn think?’ The Queen asked.
Ashlyn looked at David, who nodded. ‘We agree with Brendan. I hope this impending disaster is not too terrible. If it affects Earth and some more primitive planets, your intervention would be helpful, as they can’t defend themselves. I doubt you could reach Earth in time to help it. The Drunduh will invade and remove people quickly. If the Paradigm asks for your help, you should assist them.’
The Queen turned and scuttled to and through the portal.
“That was fast,” said Ashlyn, laughing and speaking again as the Queen was not present.
“Tame and Ada will suggest the XaX help the Paradigm,” said David.
“Yes, of course, they will. The Supreme Queen will take our advice but won’t tell Adaobi and Tame what we said. After the recent disastrous events here, Tame and Ada will understand why the XaX will not interfere without an explicit invitation. The Councilors were hostile after one of their own was uncovered as a Guild leader and a traitor,” said Brendan.
“Did you know where and when the attack was to occur?” Ashlyn asked.
“I could see images,” said David, “but I couldn’t recognize the place. It didn’t look like anything I recognized on Earth.”
“It looked ahead of Earth as I could see shuttles,” said Brendan.
“I saw that, but also New York,” said Ashlyn. “I saw the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower.”
David and Brendan once again closed their eyes and concentrated. After several minutes, both opened their eyes.
“Ash, regrettably, I agree with you,” said David.
