Chapter 44: The Council Attacks
Science Fantasy Sex Story: Chapter 44: The Council Attacks - Three young people represent Earth in a battle with our powerful ancestors who seeded us and terraformed Earth. It is a battle against people who believe Earth has lost its way, and they intend to destroy Earth if it does not comply. They are so far ahead of us that they are Godlike but are biased and irrational and prepared to inflict pain without compunction.

“I thought I would brief you on what happened in the Council after I updated them,” said Adaobi.
“What did you present to them, Grandma?” Atra asked.
“I told them I visited the XaX to support my granddaughter. Then, I told them about the security briefing given to me by the XaX. I showed them a holovid of what Tame and I saw and discovered. I showed them which mining colonies of ours the Drunduh hit and the bodies of our people and those of seeded colonies. I told them about the enemy waiting to pounce from another galaxy.”
“What was the response?” David asked.
“Several factions that compete with our businesses accused me of fabricating the story as our families will profit from the Paradigm going onto a war footing. They accused Brendan, Ashlyn, and David of sedition. They allege you are feeding the enemy vital information on our defenses,” said Adaobi.
“That’s completely illogical; what are they hoping to achieve by going that way?” Imra inquired. “What is their true aim?”
“They know our families have the inside track to benefit from our developing relationship with the XaX. They want Adaobi to bring them into any possible deals with the XaX. The Councilors will demand to see the evidence and speak to the XaX. They will not permit Adaobi and Tame to be the sole intermediaries,” said Brendan.
“Isn’t that going to be a nightmare?” Imra asked.
“No, Ada knows what she is doing. That is why she gave the Council this opening. After seeing the evidence, they will insist on interrogating us to make Adaobi feel vulnerable and more inclined to cut them a deal.”
“Don’t we want to get as much trade as possible?”Imra asked.
Brendan shook his head. “Ada knows we can’t hog all the trade ourselves, so after the Council plays their games, she will give something away, reluctantly, then a bit more when pushed. They will feel they have achieved a great victory and will push a peace agreement and trade forward. They know they must acquire new technology to fight the enemy. If Ada offered them trade opportunities and the opportunity to see the evidence themselves, they might have balked and resisted. They would have been suspicious. Ada sells the deal by denying them an opportunity.”
Ada laughed and hooted to applaud. “Well done, Brendan; you have the potential to become a Councilor.”
Brendan glared at her.
Ada looked at his face and laughed again. “The crowd who funded the military was at the forefront of those who were critical and were the most insistent about having time to talk with the three of you. They also demanded a peace agreement. Many come from families who manufacture weapons, and some build ships. Those responsible for trade demanded we give them access to the XaX to discuss trade.”
“The Supreme Queen knew what you were going to do?” David asked.
“Of course, she wants to get things happening,” said Ada.
“I assume Tame will accompany the groups when they look at the evidence?” Ashlyn asked with a grin. “He is the likable, easy-going guy to whom they relate.”
“Yes, you are correct. He gets on with everyone and reluctantly agrees to talk to me about the proposals the groups will make. They will react against me if I go along.”
“Ada, don’t you find the games tiresome?” David asked.
“Yes, I do, but I pushed too hard in my early years, and now everyone and even my family are suspicious of my motives. Nevertheless, many recognize my methods have a place,” said Ada. “The Council is always tricky to negotiate. Tame has superb skills but also plays a complex game.”
“How much threat do the interrogations present?” Atra asked.
“They will be unpleasant. There is always a risk when you deal with the Council,” said Ada.
“I am more concerned that one of the Councilors will inadvertently bring along assassins,” said Ashlyn.
“I will ensure we provide security when you meet the Councilors. I will also speak to the Supreme Queen,” said Ada. “Now I am off to report to the XaX.”
Ada abruptly stood and strode towards the portal.
“I loathe this intrigue,” said Imra. “We can’t relax and get on with our tasks.”
“Tell us what the Admiral said,” Brendan asked.
