Chapter 43: The Path Back
Science Fantasy Sex Story: Chapter 43: The Path Back - Three young people represent Earth in a battle with our powerful ancestors who seeded us and terraformed Earth. It is a battle against people who believe Earth has lost its way, and they intend to destroy Earth if it does not comply. They are so far ahead of us that they are Godlike but are biased and irrational and prepared to inflict pain without compunction.

“Grandma, Tame, and the Supreme Queen went to one of the Drunduh planets this morning,” said Atra.
“What is happening?” Brendan asked. His voice was deeper and more mellow than previously.
“XaX intelligence made some important finds,” said Imra. “We won’t find out until they return, but Grandma was not looking happy, and neither was Tame.”
“Grandpa will speak to the Admiral to find out if she will allow us to stay here for six months while you recover. The XaX will permit us to do the same engineering work here. We will learn a new type of power and its accompanying electronics,” said Atra.
“That way, we can keep safe from the assassins,” said Imra. “What will you guys do?”
“We are weak; we can only walk around for a few hours before we are exhausted. Our relentless rehabilitation stretches ahead for months. Last night was the first time we slept outside the tube. Progress is frustratingly slow.”
“We know; we were there,” said Imra, giggling. “You weren’t that weak, but you collapsed like a box in a vacuum by the end.”
“What will you do over the next six months?” Atra asked.
Brendan smiled. “I will continue with my development work, which I am doing with my new beetle and the brainiac. The Brainiacs have different but complementary concepts. I can also speak directly to our Brainiac through the one here, as they are connected, and I can use their link. David and Ashlyn are learning XaX medical practice. How are the XaX getting on with their projects?”
“The Hospitality Queen is progressing well, constructing and decorating a hotel close to the hospital. They also set up an underground communications infrastructure so visitors can communicate outside easily. They work fast and are efficient and effective,” said Atra. “Our people enjoy working with them. You can now easily talk to our ship with your cube. You could continue to liaise with Prof. Shohsukit.”
“How big will the hotel be?” Brendan asked.
“It’s small by our standards but a good start. It will have four thousand bedrooms. Most of our hotels start at ten thousand rooms. Our resort hotels have up to a hundred thousand rooms.”
“Amazing, that is the size of a town!”
Atra smiled. “Brendan, I believe the demand for tourism will be huge. We have cruise ships that carry a hundred thousand people at a time. Imagine a mob like that rampaging through the city below?”
“There is a lot to be done before they can look at tourists,” said Brendan. “Hotels and tourism are not something I’ve thought about.”
“I was brought up hearing about it. Eventually, some of it sank in,” said Atra.
“We build the ships and the hotels,” said Imra, smiling.
“It sounds like a daunting task,” said Brendan. “The XaX have a lot to learn.”
“That is what we thought, but it’s not true. The Queens constantly travel between planets. The bugs run efficient accommodation for visitors and arrange tours. The XaX understand logistics; they manage an enormous flow of goods between planets. It’s not commercial trade as we know it, but they manage it remarkably well.”
“How will the XaX cope?” Brendan asked.
“The XaX spend time learning about trade by setting up trading companies between planets to gain experience. As they build them, they add financial systems,” said Imra. “We set up simulations so they can familiarize themselves with different-sized businesses.”
“How do they like the simulations?”
“They love them. They don’t mess around as we did. These guys are serious with a capital S. They have a sense of humor and love joking, but never when it is work time.”
“How can they build financial software? Do they know enough to do so?” Brendan asked.
“They showed us what they do,” said Imra. “They gave the financial, trading, logistics, accounting, and finance courses to their supermassive AIs. They also linked their AIs to both Brainiacs. The courses use the Paradigm software, which the XaX gave to the AIs who built XaX versions overnight. Our Brainiac found it had advanced systems in its offline archives, which were more advanced than ours. The AIs built the second generation of software based on the Paradigm models and the Brainiac systems. As they use the software in their trading companies, the XaX provides live feedback to the AIs,” said Atra. “They do in days what took us years. They are on the third iteration of the software.”
“The Queens raced through our business education courses and then started looking at their production and shipping costs while learning about our financial system,” said Atra. “These guys have tons of slack time and lots of resources. The same activity is going on throughout the XaX nest.”
“How did they operate previously?” Brendan asked. “Surely they needed something?”
“We discovered they have a rudimentary system of looking at what they do and how much time and effort it takes to produce a result. It is based on units of labor. The XaX didn’t have an accounting system as we know it,” said Imra. “I find the financial discussions pretty dull, but the Queens love it and are prepared to talk finance endlessly now they have all these different models to debate and learn. They don’t get bored as we do. They can tolerate repetitive tasks much better than we can.”
“Why do they have so many slack resources?” Brendan asked.
“The life of the XaX was so much simpler than ours. They didn’t care how the products looked and had little variety. They don’t have many industries that are integral to our lives.”
“Like what?”
“There are tons of examples. I will give you a tiny sample. There is no clothing industry, restaurants, cooking, food, leisure travel, luxury goods, beauty, fashion, or art. They miss out on a lot. This society has nothing frivolous, but almost everything looks dull and uninteresting. I was amused yesterday when I saw the first workers using saddlebags on a building site. This society will change after they visit the Paradigm,” said Atra.
