On today’s news, Adm. Yodera Oluchi informed us that the XaX Supreme Queen met with her today and flagged her preparedness to sign a peace agreement. We also learned that our trio of intrepid medal winners was allegedly seriously injured fighting with the XaX against their ancient foe, the Drunduh. The XaX will treat their injuries, allegedly because they sustained injuries in the first engagement of the conflict.
The announcer looked meaningfully at the holo-cams.
Our experts believe that the XaX is overextended and wants to avoid war with us at all costs. Our citizens should not be fighting the enemy of a civilization with which we are close to war. Many questions have been asked, and some experts suggest they are traitors. Our experts further believe the XaX incarcerated them because they were caught spying for us. Following this news broadcast, a group of well-known academics and specialists in the area will debate the issues.
Today’s news: Admiral Oluchi presented a detailed report to the Council. She informed the Council that the XaX are five hundred thousand years ahead of us and have a population five times the size of the Paradigm. The XaX offered to demonstrate advanced treatment to a team of our doctors and invited the girlfriends of Brendan Murphy, hero of the Paradigm, to visit him in the hospital. The Drunduh injured him, his friend, and his sister. The Drunduh sprayed them with acid that penetrated shields and burned the skin and flesh from their bones. The Admiral credited the trio with teaching the XaX our language and acquiring a usable language learning system to teach us how to speak the XaX language. Our famous trio believed that they would easily overcome us if the XaX did not defeat the Drunduh. The Drunduh suck out the souls from the XaX. They are a predatory insect species that will attack us if they overcome the XaX. That is why they fought side by side. We have obtained the complete holovid provided to us by the XaX. Admiral Oluchi informed the Council the XaX dreadnoughts are five times the size of ours, and their flagships could carry a hundred of our battleships in their hangers. The XaX talked about peace and mentioned possible trade. They have a different legal and political framework and want to learn how we do things to make contracts that make sense to both sides.”
“Today, we learned the XaX live deep underground in the dark. They produce infrared light and use a complementary sonar system to see in the dark. They can see in the dark without using lights. The XaX sit and sleep in boat-like couches. The XaX eat raw vegetables, though they tell us our intrepid trio introduced them to cooked food.
Tourism operators are interested in offering tours to the XaX worlds and will discuss travel with the XaX. We will bring you further exclusive information as this story breaks. Following the news, we will show you what life is like in an underground city on a XaX world and what happened in that mysterious battle with the formidable and voracious Drunduh. “Atra, what do you and Imra intend to do? Dad suggests that if you go to the XaX, you first fetch David’s parents and Brendan’s. It will make them more comfortable. Can you get the time off?” Ijendu asked.
“Our boss is supportive; the poisoned engineers are back full-time,” said Atra.
“How are the trio going?”
“Brendan, David, and Ashlyn are slowly progressing and are out of critical care. Thanks for offering the yacht; however, Imra’s parents sent their yacht, but it will first fetch the parents.”
“Will you need to clear things with the admiral?”
“No, it’s done. The admiral has been in contact regularly and has done more than expected to help us,” said Atra.
“What about on the XaX side?” Ijendu asked.
“We spoke to the Supreme queen directly on the cube she gave us. She asked us to help them prepare a hotel suitable for us and then connected us with one of her hospitality people. The woman was painstakingly thorough. We went through our daily routines in laborious detail. Then I had an idea. I called our hotel people. I suggested we bring our decorator and logistics specialist along. Do you remember Biren Penthia?” Atra asked.
“Yes, dear, I employed him. He fits out our hotels. The hotel people called me directly after you spoke with them. Take a shipload of samples, enough to fit out a model hotel suitable for a hundred people. We want to keep the business in the family, if possible,” said Ijendu.
“The XaX will only deal with Imra and me. At first, the XaX will trade intellectual property in exchange for consulting and initial products. I want us to be the first to license their medical equipment,” said Atra.
“Biren is an entrepreneur and a fine choice,” said Ijendu.
“Biren can see the opportunity and is happy to come along to establish goodwill and hopes to access a colossal potential market. I connected him with the hospitality woman, and they were at it for hours,” said Atra.
“I am pleased you worked it all out. What got you interested in the business side of things, Atra?”
“I love biomedical engineering, and Brendan had some paradigm-changing ideas. He asked me if I would take care of the business side. I’ve had business training, but I couldn’t see myself running a business in the past. However, I loved Brendan’s ideas. Then David and Ashlyn started pushing out innovations. They wanted to do as Brendan was doing with me. Brendan suggested we form a company together. Now, this new opportunity comes along, and it fascinates me. I’m older and wiser, as is Imra. We can also see how we can help advance our mutual family businesses.”
“Yes, dear, we’ve spoken of those matters, but now you speak to us about hotels. Can we do more to help you?”
“Yes, I’ve wanted to talk to you guys, but all this stuff only happened in the last couple of days, and it’s going so fast. I have my military service to complete, and I have limited time to pull the deals together. I will need someone upcoming with good potential in the medical area and one in hotels to act as CEO and get it going. We can partner with you in the hotel area, but I want to be involved.”
“We can do that easily, dear. When will you need them?”
“Is the day after tomorrow too soon, mum?”
“No, dear, I have someone in mind in medical; you know her and like her, but I want it to be a surprise. She is highly adaptable but grossly underutilized. Your father will find someone for you from corporate. I am sure he has many suitable hotel prospects. Do you want to interview the hotel people?”
“No, send them along to where we will meet up with the XaX; I will send details of where it is and when and tell them I will select one of them depending on how they relate to the XaX and perform on the job. Send a medical team with flexible people; I need people with good brains.”
“Attie, won’t Imra’s family feel we are taking over?”
“No, we’re working with them in the areas they specialize in. You guys work with Imra’s family all the time. Imra and I work well together. Her family is pleased with what we are doing. They are sending mining and hotel construction people, as well as some from the group that makes medical treatment machines. We modeled what we are doing on how both sets of parents work. The XaX were delighted we could get so much done so quickly.”
“That’s my daughter; well done. Dad is delighted you are taking an interest in the business. Your father trusts Biren and has always said he has outstanding potential. You could bring him in as a shareholder in your fledgling company and let him grow the logistics side for you. He’s a younger man, barely fifty years older than you. He fits better with you youngsters than with our generation.”
“Excellent idea, mum. Do you have any more ideas?”
“We’ll send everyone we think you might need and pack products, samples, and machines in the big yacht. They can follow you. We can accommodate a thousand people as needed and take them down to the planet easily by shuttle or portal as convenient. Show the XaX Supreme Queen and her team around the yacht. It will give them a better idea of how we fit out our luxury hotels. I will also send a hotel ship for you to show them. If they choose to develop a tourist industry, they can buy, barter, or lease it.”
