Chapter 23: Dinner with the Enemy
Science Fantasy Sex Story: Chapter 23: Dinner with the Enemy - Three young people represent Earth in a battle with our powerful ancestors who seeded us and terraformed Earth. It is a battle against people who believe Earth has lost its way, and they intend to destroy Earth if it does not comply. “How about we eat here?” Stavek asked. “The food is from home. It’s a bit spicy.”
David nodded. “I’ve only eaten out twice and enjoyed the food both times. I haven’t been to this part of the ship, and I am happy to experiment. I like spicy.”
The restaurant looked like any number of restaurants David had seen in New York, London, or Sydney. It even had menus printed on plastic paper.
“I suggest you order; I have no idea what this food is,” said David. “When we came onto the ship, we went straight into the training program to deal with the Neruk. We had no familiarization program, and if you left me here, I would have no idea how to get back. I don’t know how some of the simplest things work. I don’t even know how to buy something.”
Stavek laughed. “Surely, you’re joking with me?”
“We’ve been in trouble one way or another ever since we arrived. We haven’t had time to find out the simple stuff. The medical program is heavy going and fills the day. We are also doing all kinds of experiments run by Prof. Shohsukit.”
“What do you want to buy?”
“I need to buy clothes; the few clothes I brought with me are worn out. The medical program is hard on clothes. We work together with the bioengineering students on our medical bed. Everything gets dirty, and some of it is torn.”
Stavek laughed so hard she had to hold her side.
“What’s so funny?”
“Do you have a big box near your bed?”
“Yes, we all have one of those.”
“I’ll come back to your room and show you how you can solve your clothing problem. I am going to dine out on this story. What else do you need to buy?”
“My bed is too short for me and not wide enough. I must get a bigger bed. I also have no idea how much money I have and what a new bed will cost.”
Stavek lost her battle to keep a straight face and once again laughed.
“When I return to your room, I’ll show you how to use the controls on your bed.”
“Thank you, but it’s also hard and lumpy. Do you know how to fix that?”
Stavek grinned. “I had better show you how to use everything in your room.”
“What else do you need to buy?”
“I need a toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, and a hairbrush. I also need to get a haircut.”
“I don’t know half that stuff, but I’ll teach you how to use your facilities when you show me what you do with it. What do you do when you go to the gym?”
“Our instructor washes with us, and she does whatever needs to be done. It’s all automated. I come out of the gym fresh and clean.”
“What do you do about your clothes?”
“We bring fresh clothes in bags to the gym and take the bags back to our rooms after breakfast. Then I wash my clothes and hang them up to dry.”
“This is amazing! Do all of you do the same?”
“Yes, as far as I know. I have been helping Ashlyn wash her clothes as she has been too weak to wash them herself. She also wants to buy some clothes but hasn’t complained about her bed.”
“Have you seen the others dress after the gym?”
“No, we go into our cubicles to dress, though they are much smaller than the ones we are accustomed to, and there is nowhere to sit.”
Stavek once again burst out laughing. “You guys have a lot to learn. I’ll make sure someone familiarizes you with the facilities on the ship.”
She peered down at the menu and showed David how she ordered by touching a red circle next to the item. The food arrived minutes later.
David sat back. “This food is delicious. I haven’t tasted flavors like these before. Stavek, please tell me where you come from and your family.”
Stavek smiled.
“We come from region 4 in this galaxy. My home planet has long, icy winters that last two-thirds of our year. It is a dense planet with a gravity twenty-five percent higher than on the ship. My parents were asteroid miners. They died in an explosion when I was sixteen. My sister was ten years older than me, but I hardly saw her. When I was fifteen, I went to school in Vorgaruhm, and when they died, I had not seen my parents for two years.”
“That must’ve been terrible,” said David.
“No, I was in a Paradigm school back home from five because of my parent’s work. I hardly ever saw them. They slept a lot when they were off shift and didn’t do much. As I grew older, I was happy to stay at school with my friends and indulge my interests. The school in Vorgaruhm was one of the elite academies and a feeder for the university. Many Councilors have been to that school. You make contacts for life and then build more great connections at the university. My grandparents on my mother’s side live in Vorgaruhm. They were better parents than my own. Both grandparents are well-respected Councilors.”
Stavek smiled at David. “They are caring people and generous with their time and attention.”
“What is a Paradigm school?”
“The Paradigm takes care of all children whose parents’ work interferes with parenting. Children are precious in the Paradigm. Our civilizations ensure they resource the schools well and provide an enriched environment. We get excellent teachers, a caring staff, and exposure to the arts, sports, and hobbies.”
“What did you study at University?”
“I studied politics, social anthropology, sociology, philosophy, ethics, development, and economics. It is the stream most who have an interest in politics take.”
“How did you land up in intelligence?”
“Grandpa was an admiral in military intelligence. I often met some of his old friends at home and got to know them. When I was in my last year of study, one of them approached me with an offer. Grandpa said it was an excellent path into politics and encouraged me to join. I’ve been slowly working my way up for ten years.”
“How do you like the work?”
“The work is mostly dull and tedious, but the politics are intense and wearying. This is the first exciting assignment I’ve had.”
“What is your usual dull work?”
“We analyze reports with the AIs and go to endless meetings.”
“Do you specialize in a particular area of intelligence?”
“They move us through different departments every two years, and then we circulate through specialty areas every five years.”
“What area are you in?”
“I am in political intelligence.”
“Are all of you from the same area?”
“Half of us here come from the political department, and the other half are from counterintelligence.”
“What does politics deal with?”
“We keep an eye on the big companies and their lobbyists and political factions at all levels of our society. The counterintelligence group deals with sedition and revolutionary groups.”
“How did your bosses decide to set up your group?”
