Chapter 14: Steering Neruk
Science Fantasy Sex Story: Chapter 14: Steering Neruk - Three young people represent Earth in a battle with our powerful ancestors who seeded us and terraformed Earth. It is a battle against people who believe Earth has lost its way, and they intend to destroy Earth if it does not comply. They are so far ahead of us that they are Godlike but are biased and irrational and prepared to inflict pain without compunction.

Kreia joined them five minutes after they returned from lunch. “Michael told me he explained as much as he could about the Neruk, but you had further questions.”
“Kreia, do you know how the worm navigates?” Ashlyn asked.
“The Neruk can do much more than you would expect, considering its brain size. It uses a sonar. It rarely makes a mistake.”
“What do the filaments do?” Ashlyn continued.
“Originally, we thought they were used to feed. We later discovered that Neruk uses them to produce neurotransmitters and hormones that influence us.”
“In what way does it influence us?” David asked.
“It ensures people urinate in the river. The filaments also triggered our ability to use telepathy; in your case, they are alleged to ensure you speak the truth. They don’t damage us unless we try to remove the Neruk. In the early years, we tried to remove the Neruk surgically. As soon as we started surgery, the Neruk dropped the person’s blood pressure. If we touched the Neruk, it killed the person. When we learned how to remove the Neruk using telepathy and telekinesis, it managed to kill many people and make others permanently psychotic. That is why we put so much time into teaching you what we know works,” said Kreia.
“When we maneuver it into the back of the nose, how does it get its feelers into the brain?” Brendan asked.
“The nerves we use to smell descend from the brain through a bony grid in the roof of the nose. The Neruk senses the brain and sends its filaments to the brain next to the olfactory nerves.”
“Do we know how it makes some people psychotic?”
“It releases powerful combinations of neurotransmitters and hormones that produce devastating results.”
“Can you successfully remove the Neruk with current technology?” Ashlyn asked.
“If we place the person in a medical treatment bed, the Neruk knows and damages or kills the person.”
“How does it know?” David asked.
“We don’t know,” said Kreia.
“What do you suggest we do with our time until we begin our task tomorrow?” Ashlyn asked.
“I suggest you meditate, then practice telepathy and telekinesis. We’ll have dinner, and you’ll continue practicing. We’ll ensure you are up by four a.m. Do you have any other questions?”
“Do you think the Neruk has become sentient?” Ashlyn asked.
“We don’t think so as the Neruk brain is so small, but we don’t know as we can’t communicate properly with the Neruk. We don’t understand how it does as much as it does with such a minimal brain.”
They woke up at four and had breakfast.
At 5:15, Brendan established telepathic contact with his Neruk. Its mind was alien, but unexpectedly, it felt vast, much bigger than Kreia’s, Ashlyn’s, David’s, or Michael’s mind. He sensed when the worm broke out of the pupa. He didn’t understand why, but he felt it welcomed him in its mind. He sent the worm positive thoughts but couldn’t explain to himself why he did as he did. He explored its brain until he found how it moved and how it turned.
Brendan found the Neruk fascinating. It seemed amused when he tried to turn it. It sent him a picture of where it must go. That was a shock. It was a detailed picture of the area’s anatomy showing the worm’s location. He thanked the worm and told it how impressed he was. It sent him happy thoughts. He felt through its senses as it narrowed and squeezed through the gallbladder wall, found the hepatic vein, and entered it. Brendan enjoyed the sensations as they flowed up the inferior vena cava to the right side of the heart. He felt the worm’s excitement as the heart pumped it into the pulmonary artery. Like Brendan, the worm felt a rush when he caught a wave. They moved faster as the arteries became smaller and then got stuck. The worm squeezed through the arteriole’s wall into the lung’s substance.
The worm sent him a picture of the nearest suitable-sized bronchus. They soon reached it, and the worm started squeezing itself up the bronchus, helped by a tiny gush of blood. Brendan felt the irritation and coughed explosively several times. Then, he felt the triumph of the Neruk and its relief.
“Brendan,” said Kreia, observing the worm’s progress with her scope. “You’re getting to the critical time.”
“I am inside the worm and fully participating in what’s happening. It’s been an exciting ride. How long has it been?”
“It’s been nine hours. You were fully engrossed, so we didn’t distract you. You can eat once it extends its tendrils up the olfactory nerves.”
