Chapter 12: The Trial

Science Fantasy Sex Story: Chapter 12: The Trial - Three young people represent Earth in a battle with our powerful ancestors who seeded us and terraformed Earth. It is a battle against people who believe Earth has lost its way, and they intend to destroy Earth if it does not comply. They are so far ahead of us that they are Godlike but are biased and irrational and prepared to inflict pain without compunction.

Brendan noticed Fryson Drayib tune out. A few minutes later, when the professor once again paid attention, his face was suffused, his eyes bloodshot, and he was breathing deeply.

Brenden knew something was seriously wrong.

Kreia explained the daily routine and the subjects David and Ashlyn would take in the first two hundred and fifty days.

Fryson Drayib hissed, made humphing noises, and sighed. He glared at Brendan and David.

“Fryson, you look like you are going to burst. Do you have something on your mind that can’t wait?” Kreia asked.

“Did you know two of these young people were on the cusp of becoming religious leaders? If they are on the ship, they will poison the minds of the others from the plane,” Prof. Dr. Fryson Drayib shrieked, his face red with ugly white splotches and his lips pursed. “Shikase, you and your brother were consorting with the religious fanatics, and now you bring two of their members to sew insurrection on this ship. I knew you were not to be trusted, and now I am persuaded you are up to no good. You want to make more fanatics like yourselves. You plot and plan where we can’t see you and insert your minions to further your agenda. I will not tolerate it.”

Cardinal Michael, known on the ship as Bropter Shikase, looked calmly at Fryson Drayib. “So, we find the ever honorable ‘Representative of the Council’ stoops to Barase?”

“In my position, I am also Protector of the Paradigm; it is permitted.”

Kreia looked at Fryson wide-eyed but frowning. “Even by your dubious standards, that is low, Fryson. You use the key of the Council without any evidence of wrongdoing. It is only meant to be done after the person is charged with a heinous crime.”

“The Council gave my brother and me a brief. The Councilors wanted us to infiltrate two religions and change their behavior. The Council initiated the project. You deliberately insult my brother, Drayib, and me and falsely accuse us of seeding sedition.”

Fryson shrugged his shoulders and canted his head from side to side. “I am unimpressed with your weak excuse and your protestations. I demand reassurance that two of the three you put forward as prospects are above reproach. They must prove Neruk,” said Fryson. “In my position, I can be magnanimous; I permit the young woman to go through untested.”

“Are you mad, Fryson? We haven’t used Neruk for tens of thousands of years; why do you want to subject these young people to that dreadful trial? They don’t have a chance; they have no time to prepare before we go,” Kreia protested.

“Brendan was part of a church whose priests practiced abominations. He demonstrates his inclinations. Who will he abuse on this ship?” Fryson Drayib asked. “They do not deserve unlimited time. I will delay the ship three days, that much I concede.”

“If my brother and David must do this Neruk thingie, I must also do it!” Ashlyn declared vehemently.

Kreia looked at her aghast. “You volunteer to prove Neruk without knowing what you must do. You have far more courage than good sense, girl. You must retract!”

“No, she has come forward; she must prove Neruk; I do not accept retraction,” said Fryson triumphantly. “Against my better judgment, I will save her the fight.”

“No, if my brother and David fight, then so must I,” said Ashlyn. “I want no concessions from you, Professor Doctor Fryson Drayib. On the contrary, if I am to respect you, then I expect reciprocation.”

Fryson stared at Ashlyn. “My dear young lady, you have no idea how foolish you sound. Half of those who try to prove Neruk die and a quarter lose their minds.”
