Chapter 8

Science Fiction Sex Story: Chapter 8 - A young officer in an alien planet’s military space force is sent with two other space explorers back to the supposed origin of mankind a millennium or so after it was thought to be decimated. Alpha, they called it. Due to extenuating circumstances, when she arrived on Alpha, or Earth as we know it, she was alone. Not knowing, and even fearing what she would encounter upon landing, it turned out pretty well. Pretty well for her and for what was left of Earth’s severely diminished population.

Landing the craft on the space station above Omega was a simple process. Traffic was held for us to enter the area, then resumed once we arrived in the Messenger’s permanently assigned bay. Once the bay doors were closed and the ship was shut down, the area was pressurized, and we were able to leave the ship. What normally takes hours for the larger ships only takes several minutes for a small bay, the size needed for our small ship.

The largest of our spacecraft used docking tubes instead and just connected to the station that way, then any external maintenance was performed in the open space environment. There were several bays large enough for all but the battleships and dreadnoughts to be placed in for major repairs, but that wasn’t a common occurrence.

Charlie grabbed his bag, and Ronen, I gathered my belongings, and we left The Messenger behind for the time being. Entering the small, dedicated shuttle bay built inside the huge spaceship bay, we found Papa’s shuttle waiting for us. Lieutenant Symon, Papa’s Command Pilot, greeted me with a clandestine hug. He’d been with my grandfather for a year or so now and we’d gotten to know each other quite well. I’d even babysat his kids once when his wife had an emergency, and he was out traipsing around the system with Papa. I introduced him to Charlie, they shook hands, and off we went to Nana’s estate. It was left to them by my great-grandparents when they passed just recently.

“I would have been greeted by an entourage from my unit, but since the Ronen thing hit the news, everyone thought this would be better, I’ll bet. I was actually expecting my request for a shuttle to be filled by them. This is so much easier. This shuttle actually stays at the estate and Perry, Lieutenant Symon, lives just a few miles away in town.”

“Interesting setup.”

“It works. The only problem is they have no compunction about calling Papa in at all hours for whatever reason. I have a room there, and stay there a lot, but I also have an apartment closer to the base where I’m stationed on the other side of the city. We’ll be there at the estate for a couple of days, then, depending on my career decisions, we’ll spend time showing you around our world. How does that sound, my dear?”

“I can’t wait, Chalen. Seriously. This is going to be an amazing experience.” He was smiling as he said it. Genuine, to the core.

Once at the estate, I introduced Charlie to Nana and Papa formally, and was surprised to find that the Supreme Leader wanted to meet with us at the estate the next day. It was very odd for him to meet with anyone outside his offices.

Papa gave several reasons why he never did, the most important being his own safety and security. The “upper hand” argument was often used, too, meaning he was always on his home field, therefore he was perceived to have the advantage in any discussions or dealings, even if it was only his perception that was affected.

The most important reason why the Leader chose to forego his own preferences in this case was for Charlie’s safety and his presence on Omega not being openly known. Our government was trying to keep it quiet until the explanation of how the people of Alpha, or Sol One Earth, were so close to eradication that only point zero zero five percent of them survived the onslaught. Only five thousandths of a percent of the inhabitants of Earth made it and that was just by some fluke of luck. Knowledge that there was a threat that severe among the stars needed to be known, yes, but carefully disseminated so that a panic didn’t erupt. It didn’t matter that it happened two thousand years ago or so, it only mattered that it was possible.

It was to be kept quiet for a while, anyway, and that meant the Supreme Leader was coming to the estate for lunch tomorrow. He was bringing with him the Secretary of Omega One Spatial Affairs and my grandfather’s only other superior, his uncle, my great uncle, the Secretary of Omega One Department of the Military.

The dinner table that evening was a lively place to be, if one had the desire to listen to war stories and discussions of ugly aliens. Charlie had never seen any, in person, stating that I was the only alien he’d ever been exposed to, and didn’t think I was all that ugly. Nana was unprepared for Charlie’s sense of humor, blew cherry wine out her nose trying not to laugh with a mouthful of the sweet substance, and had to excuse herself.

When Papa stopped laughing, he showed my boyfriend pictures and videos of several hideous creatures, some of which I was familiar with, and some not. They chatted about the Scalar, what they looked like from what little records Earth still had, how they moved, communicated, and that sort of thing, then Charlie volunteered me to gather all the information Papa thought would be valuable for humanity to share. The Scalar, as Charlie described them, were not known to the people of Omega, and therefore not to Omicron, or the others.

When Nana returned, the conversation turned to us. “Charlie, I’m going to dispose of military protocol while we are here at the estate. As a newly promoted Flag, or General Officer, that probably doesn’t bother you very much. I don’t know how many stars are in your military, but it makes a difference.”

Charlie raised a couple of fingers and interjected, “May I, sir?” Papa nodded. “I am the youngest and least rank,” Papa chuckled, Nana shook her head, grinning, “of the bunch. There are now ten of us. Our military is just as bottom heavy as our government. Things seem to run better that way. Allowing marine life to flourish and public service organizations to regroup and become streamlined, and actually effective, were probably the two best and maybe the only two good things to come from the incursion of the Scalar. It wasn’t worth the price, but one must see some sunshine in the clouds lest they become despondent.”

“Very accurate and very brave outlook, young man. I appreciate your foresight. While it won’t affect you too awfully much, as the envoy of your people, you will have Major Generals and Rear Admirals look at you like shit on their shoe. Those are not the people you need to worry yourself with. If they have those types of attitudes, they are of no consequence to you, however, I would like to know each and every time something like that happens. I keep score. My uncle and I are adamant about power being restrained until doled out in lethal force. In other words, they need to be human and on stable footing with their underlings until we are being shot at. Baby sweets, any time you are with him, and from what I understand that is going to be most of the time, I’d like your help with that. You know some of the men, and at least the one woman, I’m mostly referring to, I’m sure, but in any case, I need to know if he is treated as anything less than off world royalty. There is a reason for that. Charlie, you and your people are not to be seen in any way as inferior to, or subjects of, Omega One, or any other government on Omega or Omicron, and certainly not of the Federation.

“Next point. You probably have protocols or laws or codes pertaining to proper order and maintenance of discipline among the force. We do as well. On that note, no kissing in public. I’m only half kidding. It will soon be widely known that in addition to being an Envoy or Ambassador of your people, you have been drawn into a relationship with my granddaughter. Everyone in my command that knows of your existence, also knows of that fact. It’s a security issue for both of you. Do you have insurgents and ne’er-do-wells in your sphere of influence, Charlie?”

“I’m ashamed to say we do, sir. We came across some pretty nasty gents just before boarding Messenger for our jaunt back here. Your little girl and I were literally, yet unknowingly, on the run from them until my security forces intervened.”

“Hmmm. Interesting. We do as well. It was getting worse, but now with Andele Gasson out of the limelight, things may calm a little. It is my opinion that she was most of our country’s problems. That’s information I’d like to stay in this home only if you don’t mind.”

“I have two questions, sir.” Papa nodded to Charlie, letting him know it was fine to ask. “The first, and foremost, question is in line with your desire to keep things that are said here within ‘here’ so to speak. I would like your permission to court your granddaughter in the formal sense with the hopeful outcome of permanence.”

“Wow, a stickler for propriety. You have our permission, young man. Chalen sent us a little blurb in the torpedo about your and her feelings. We saw this coming and concur with her desires. The second question, Charlie?”

“Who is Andele Gasson?” he asked.

The three of us laughed out loud, then as quickly as I could, I apologized for our outburst. “I’m going to apologize for all three of us, honey. That name should not have been mentioned like that without you knowing she was Ronen’s mother, the Queen, if you will, or the Supreme Leader’s wife. The first lady of Omega One is another of her titles. She’s always been the most unpleasant woman to deal with no matter what the subject is.”

“I get it. You mentioned that back home, honey, but I never heard a name. You just referred to her as the captain’s mother or the Supreme Leader’s wife.”

“She is abrasive and causes so many problems for our Leader, Charlie. She’s horrible. Her son was obviously much too close to her. After hearing of the death, then seeing the evidence, we hear Ralls immediately stopped mourning his son’s demise and went on to another subject, like it never even happened. I think, in his eyes, his son, his own blood and only child, just ceased to exist. Andele, though, she took it terribly hard and went a little crazy. They have her in an asylum now. A friend of mine and I have tried to go look in on her a couple of times, but she doesn’t want to see anyone and just talks to Ronen all the time, asking him why he couldn’t have done his deed in private so it wouldn’t have embarrassed her so horribly. She’s fallen very deeply into a level of illogical thought and depression. A psychiatrist friend of ours is pretty sure she’s over the edge of insanity for the long run. He thinks she won’t ever come back from wherever she is.” Nana’s explanation held Charlie on the edge of his seat. Nana doesn’t talk often, but when she does, people listen.

After dinner, as late as it was getting, I took Nana aside and asked her if it was going to be all right with them if Charlie and I stayed together while we were at their house.

She was amused by my concern. “Of course, sweetheart. You are an adult, Chalen. You carry weapons that can kill men and monsters alike. You command weapons which can wipe out countries and even civilizations. We know how you feel about that charming young man. He has asked your grandfather for permission to court you. Don’t worry about our permission to pursue your love for him. I know, that was presumptuous. You may just want him to hold you as you fall asleep in his arms. Baby, we love you more than we can show, and want you happy. Oh, by the way, Sella has asked how you are doing these days. Have you two fallen out?”

“No, Nana, I’ve just been busy, and to be honest, I’ve neglected our friendship. I’ll work on that tomorrow. Thank you for everything, Nana. I love you.” I hugged her then went back into the dining room to collect my man, pulling him away from yet another story filled with Papa’s exuberant exploits in his younger days.

“Chalen, Charlie brought up the pirates you confronted on the way home. He told me you handled yourself in a most superb manner. I saw an overview of the report in my daily intelligence briefing. Was there anything out of the ordinary about the confrontation?”

“No, Papa. Only that there was no attempt at a communications contact. They simply fired upon us, most probably thinking we were some type of trade ship or courier. Why our identification didn’t come up on the targeting console of a Tyreen warship, I don’t understand, but we were never really in danger once the outer shields generated after the detransition from Hyplex mode.”

“Most people would have been well aware of that, unless they were taking the chance that there was an inexperienced captain commanding the vessel or were under the impression the shields were damaged or something similar. Well, I’m going to look into it and contact a friend I have over in the Internal Security Affairs Bureau. It is my opinion, and mine only, but I fear they may not have been pirates, and knew full well who you were and what you were doing. Again, info for the estate only, but until proven otherwise, my sense of dread is tingling.”

“Papa, what are you getting at?”

“I think maybe the Tyreen ship was commandeered by one of our own, then used to bear arms against you. It would have been pretty easy for one of our crews to do something like that, what with the Tyreen being a people who are not necessarily hostile toward Omega. They are a Federation member, after all, so some type of ruse, whether a joint exercise, or maybe a call for assistance, could have been used to gain control of their vessel. It’s all speculation, dear, but I’m suspicious of the way the confrontation occurred. If I’m right, things are going to get worse around here before they get better, and if I’m wrong, well, I’ll be retiring in a few years anyway, so ... What the hell do I have to lose?”

“Papa, I have a friend in Naval Intelligence. I will be talking to her tomorrow. May I bring her out to talk to you? I would much rather you discuss this with her, instead of me doing it, so that she understands the gravity of the affair, and has your instincts to guide her, and vice versa. She’s supposedly the best at what she does.”

“Are you talking about Sella, honey?”

“Yes, Papa. She’s an analyst at NIC and deals with information about pirates all the time. That’s the branch she is assigned to.”

“Yes, my dear. I’d love that. I had no idea.”

“She doesn’t talk about work, Papa. She takes her job seriously. If she knows anything, though, you will, too, because she knows you have all the security clearances in the world that you might need, and probably more than her. Plus, she likes you. She doesn’t have a Grampa, if you remember her story. She told me once she was using you for her own nefarious needs, you know, grampawise.”

“I do remember all that, sweety. Can you get her here in the morning before the Leader arrives with the department secretaries?”

“I’ll try. It’s late, but maybe she won’t hate me for bothering her at this time of the evening. If she needs, in order to get her here, may I drop your name?”

“Certainly, hon, just be careful with the underlying reasons when you relay your request. You never know who might be listening, even though they shouldn’t be. Chalen, dear, I think we should ask her if she can talk to the director about putting Charlie through their little two-week training course, as well. I think having him armed, both of you, really, at all times, would be a better plan than not.”

Charlie asked Papa, “You’re thinking this is the beginning of something pretty serious, aren’t you, Admiral?”

“Not the beginning, Charlie, but certainly the closing of the first or second acts of a tragic play. And please, Charlie, here at home, I’m just Malen. I’m sure ‘Papa’ would be a bridge too far, as they say.”

“No problem, Malen. Thank you. I’d be honored to do whatever you think is necessary to protect your granddaughter, sir.”

“And yourself, Charlie. And yourself. It would be a catastrophe, in my eyes, if anything happened to you while you were in my care. I have been somewhat charged with your care, anyway. My elite guard will be your shadow, as opposed to a Spatial Affairs security team normally used for dignitaries. That was by my request. And anyway, Chalen would get mad at me if you got hurt, and we can’t have that. Okay, you two, go get some rest and we’ll talk in the morning. Baby, don’t forget to give Sella a call. I think we may need the help. I’m going into my office and call her boss. I’ve known Regan Down for decades, and I think we can trust him. I’m going to ask him for Sella’s help on the project and see how he reacts. With him, that might be better than just waylaying her and asking for forgiveness later.”

“I know you’re right and trust your judgment implicitly. Thank you, Papa. We’ll see you in the morning.” With that, I pulled Charlie back to the wing of the mansion containing my room, and proceeded to make sure he was comfortable while I reached out for my friend, Sella.

I had a large stuffed chair in my room that could swallow a man Charlie’s size if they weren’t careful. I put him in it, then crawled into his lap. Sella saw that the incoming comm on her device was from me and acknowledged it quickly.

“Sella, I am so sorry it’s been so long, and even more sorry now. Even though I was going to call you tomorrow and let you know I was back from Alpha anyway, just because I love you, my Papa wanted me to contact you tonight to ask you for some help.”

“Oh, Chalen, I’m so glad you’re back and in one piece. You say Papa wants MY help?”

“Yeah, it’s kind of work related, but I also want you to meet my new boyfriend. I brought him all the way back from Alpha with me.”
