Penza- Chamber of Guardians

When they lowered their hands, the three beasts were gone.

In their place stood three humanoid figures, one male and two females, clad in warrior armour etched with flowing symbols. Their skin retained the dark luminescence of their beast forms, their cores glowing fiercely at their chests.

“Shit.”

“Damn.”

“Lights. Gods.”

The group whispered together, stunned.

The man was nearly Zyrian’s height, broad, and imposing. The women were radiant, ethereal, their long black hair flowing like liquid shadow, their eyes glowing silver-white.

“You ... you two look the same,” Nira said, breathless, staring at the females.

“Yes,” one said. “We are twins.”

“You are beautiful,” Cael blurted.

Both twins chuckled.

“Why, thank you,” the second said, glancing pointedly at the male. “Not something we hear often.”

The male grunted,

“No time for flatteries. You may call me Draven.”

“I’m Thyria,” the first sister said.

“And I’m Thyjia,” the second added. “You can use either of our names if you get confused.”

The squad nodded automatically. Ryra inhaled to introduce herself,

“No need,” Draven interrupted. “We already know your names, your lives, and” pausing “some of your futures.”

The squad froze.

“Come,” Draven said, turning toward the glowing orb chamber. “A bit of history first. Then ... everything else.”

The twins smiled softly at the group and followed.

The squad exchanged a look, equal parts anticipation and dread, and walked behind them.

As they neared the glowing chamber, Zyrian suddenly stopped, breath caught. A familiar presence brushed his mind.

“Zyrian? You, okay?” Nira whispered.

He forced a smile. “Ah ... yes.”

He walked on. Ahead of them, the guardians exchanged a single silent thought.

Did you both feel that? Draven asked.

Yes. The twins replied,

Unknown Planet-Mountain Cavern

The moment Zyrian neared the chamber and felt that faint presence, the princess, far across worlds, stepped down from the ship’s hangar toward the mountain’s inner entrance.

Her breath hitched. Her foot slipped.

“Princess, are you okay?” Admiral Canzar caught her instantly.

“Hmm ... yes. Thanks.”

The queen’s eyes narrowed. “What happened?”

“Uh ... I think I felt him. Just now.” Her cheeks burned red.

The queen exhaled sharply and said nothing.

They entered the cavern. The elders were no longer meditating; they were standing before the beast carvings, staring as though the stone had whispered to them.

“You came,” the elder man said, turning.

“Of course we came,” the queen muttered. “We need answers. Something is in this place.”

“Something?” the elder woman asked.

“She felt the boy again when we landed,” the queen explained.

“Is it so?” The elder woman tilted her head. “Did you talk to him now?” she asked the princess.

“No ... I don’t know how. Before it just ... happened.”

The elders exchanged a tight look with the queen, who avoided their eyes.

“Come, sit,” the elder man said.

But before anyone sat, the woman lifted her hand. “First, let us go to the place we felt yesterday. See how strong his presence is now.”

The princess nodded. The elders took her hand. The queen placed hers over theirs.
Then the king did too.

The elders stared at them.

“It’s our daughter’s mind,” the king said gently. “We have every right to know what’s happening.”

They looked at Admiral Canzar. He lifted both palms.

“I’m fine right here, thank you.”

A heartbeat later, their astral forms materialised in her mindscape, vast, pale, faintly shimmering.

They moved toward Zyrian’s space, glowing brighter than yesterday.

“It is brighter,” the elder woman whispered.

But before she finished, the whole space flickered. A sharp mental snap echoed.

The princess vanished. Gone, like a door slammed shut.

“Princess?!” They called, panicked.

Then they felt it, two enormous presences behind them. They turned and froze.

Two colossal beasts stood there, eyes glowing like white fire.

“Guardians...” the elders breathed, kneeling instantly.

The king and queen stared, stunned.

The beasts observed them, then light erupted, and two humanoid figures stood there: Thyria and Thyjia. Cold. Beautiful. Not smiling.

“Stand,” they said in unison.

The elders obeyed.

Thyria’s voice held none of the warmth she used with Zyrian’s squad.

“What are you all doing here? In her mind again?”

Thyjia added, tone sharp, “We thought you learned your lesson yesterday, when our mate ripped you out.”

The group flinched at the memory.

“That was you?” the queen snapped. “You have no right! This is my daughter! Where is she? What have you done?”

Both guardians looked at her, slowly, deadly.

“Queen...” the elders whispered urgently.

The king gripped her arm. The guardians took a step toward them.

Thyjia’s voice hardened. “This place is no longer your playground. Whatever freedom you had before ends now.”

Thyria followed, “These mind spaces are becoming more than you can comprehend. Stop entering.”

Thyjia stepped back. “She will connect with him when the time comes. Naturally, don’t push. And let her strength grow,” she stared hard.

They exchanged a knowing glance.

Thyria continued. “Trespass again and face the consequences. We are done here”

Thyjia grinned and flicked her hair.

“Now if you don’t mind ... we have some charming young men who’re waiting to stare at us.”

Light flared, and they vanished.

Leaving the royals and elders trembling in the silent Mindspace.

The Mindspace came normal again, with the princess standing there,

“Come on, let’s go”, she said, looking at them as if nothing. To her, of course, nothing happened

“No child, he isn’t here. We will teach you; you can try again without us. Now let’s go,” the elder lady said, voice shaking

“What?” the princess looked at her parents, they just nodded, their shaking bodies and minds trying to come to normal

The princess sighed and nodded; everyone returned to their mind and bodies. Four bodies and minds are shaking violently.

The moment they opened their eyes, the admiral started, “Are you okay? You...

The king cut him off with a raised hand. The admiral fell silent.

“Care to explain?” The queen asked softly, her usual snapping and sarcastic tone gone

“You...” The elder man started and looked at the princess, “Child, you take a look around, tell me if you find anything interesting, but don’t touch anything”, he said.

The princess looked at them, her parents, nodded and went to the walls.

“We told you enough times to let her grow, but you didn’t listen. Now look what that achieved,” the lady said, voice still shaking.

The queen, for once, was silent “Who are these guardians?”

“We don’t know much; we only know from passed-down knowledge that there were hundreds or so of these creatures, and they only wake when they feel a purpose. We didn’t know when they would wake or at least arrive in this part of the universe, but now they seem to sense a purpose, I think, and are here”.

“It was like the beast turned to those women”, the king said in wonder.

“Yes, we read that, they can be humanoids as well as beasts, they can change their form, whenever they wish”, the elder man said. Hearing this, the admiral’s eyes widened.

“What exactly do they do?” Queen Asked.

The elders shrugged, an expression, not a mannerism for them, “We don’t know”.

“What is their connection with my daughter? Why is this all happening now?” the queen fired her questions.

“We don’t know”, the elders said calmly

“You don’t?” Queen inquired.

“No, we have been trying to learn of that for over fifteen years now, since the strange phenomenon happened and you conceived of her, but we couldn’t find anything”

“Do you think those beasts know that?”

They shook their heads, “We don’t think even they knew of it, at least not fully, but they know more than us.”

“Then who exactly knows all of this?”

The elders sighed and shook their heads, “Only Time and the light”

They all fell silent, the high-tech hologram machines’ sound only filled the cavern

“Uh ... Mother, Father,” the voice broke the silence

They all turned toward the princess “Yes, darling?” The king said.

“Ah...” The princess hesitated briefly but then stood up straight and said, “You all weren’t surprised when you saw him and his friends. It looked like you knew them, or at least knew of their people. You even commented on their appearance, saying they are large and that their hair and eye colours are unusual for them.”

The queen looked stunned, the king with an unreadable expression, as if looking at his daughter for the first time. The admiral’s face broke into a proud smile. The elders smiled faintly.

“How did you...” The queen began in a stunned voice

The princess asked, “Do you know him? His people? About them? Where do they live? Planet? Galaxy?”

The adult exchanged a look; the queen opened her mouth, considered lying, but closed it as the guardians’ words still echoed in her mind.

She sighed and nodded, “Yes, sweetheart, we know”.

The princess exclaimed in delight, “Really? You knew?” Her face lit up with a radiant smile.

The adults couldn’t help but smile at her cheerful reply: “Yes, they are only in this galaxy, in another solar system, their planet is called Zena,” the queen said, smiling for the first time tonight.

“Wow ... Zena,” she murmured to herself.

Suddenly, she looked up and asked, “Can I ... I mean, can we go there?” blushing.
