Unknown Planet- Mountain Cavern

The princess clutched her heart with one hand and her temple with the other, falling to her knees.

“Princess!” Admiral Canzar lunged forward.

“I ... I can feel him again,” she whispered. “He’s not awake ... but his consciousness is there.”

The elder man chuckled softly.

“Dying...?” he repeated. “No. Now, a future with a Verynor involved? It does not darken so easily.”

He stepped toward her, eyes alight with something close to excitement.

“Come, child. Sit. Look into him again. And tell us.”

“But ... I don’t know how,” she admitted, even as her body moved on instinct, taking place before them.

“That, we will teach you,” the elder woman said, her gaze slicing sharply toward the queen.

The queen clenched her jaw and turned away, then quietly took her place beside her daughter. The king and admiral joined, creating a tight circle of protection around her.

“Now,” the elder woman said gently, “reach for him. The part of your mind where his presence lingers.”

The princess nodded, closed her eyes, and sank into her mind.

She found it immediately, a warm corner of her consciousness, soft and familiar, like a blanket.

But when she reached out ... There was nothing beyond it. Just warmth. Just an echo.

She opened her eyes, breathing a little harder.

“No,” she said. “His presence is there. His feelings, too. But I can’t trace it back to him. Maybe he’s still unconscious?”

“I see,” the elder woman murmured. She extended her hand. “Here. Let me guide you.”

The princess hesitated, staring at the offered hand ... worry flickering in her eyes.

The elder chuckled softly.
“Don’t worry, dear. I won’t go past where you allow me to go. Your secrets remain yours. I will only guide.”

The princess checked her parents’ faces; they nodded, and she finally placed her hand in the elder’s.

The woman closed her eyes, then gasped, eyes flying open in shock.

“What happened?” the elder man asked immediately.

“What? What’s wrong?” the queen snapped, alarm rising.

The elder woman exhaled.
“It’s ... her shield. I can’t get past it.” Her voice carried disbelief. “I shouldn’t be blocked. Not at my level.”

“What?” The man leaned forward quickly. “You can’t...? Let me try.”

He took the princess’s other hand, closed his eyes, and opened them seconds later, wearing the same stunned expression.

He turned toward the king and queen, eyebrows raised sharply.

Did you know?

The queen frowned. “What? I only taught her the basics of shielding, considering all of this...”
Then her expression shifted, confidence replaced by dread.
“Don’t tell me. I’ll check.”

She reached for her daughter’s mind.

Her breath caught. She jerked back, hand flying to her mouth.

“It ... it wasn’t like this yesterday,” she exhaled. “This isn’t my shield. No one taught her this.”

“Mother?” the princess asked, frightened. “What’s wrong? Why are you all looking at me like that?”

“No, no, nothing’s wrong,” the queen said quickly. “It’s just ... your mind is different now. A part of it. Even I can’t enter.”

“Different?” the princess asked, voice small. “Is it ... bad? I don’t feel any different.”

The elders exchanged a grave look, but immediately softened their faces.

“It’s fine,” the elder man said. “Just lower the shield. Let us in. Don’t resist, it’ll hurt our old minds.”

He tried to joke, but the strain showed.

The princess nodded, closed her eyes, and lowered the barrier.

“Good,” both elders said.

A shift rippled through the air, and suddenly the three of them stood within her mindscape.

The elders stiffened instantly. They exchanged a look ... and began scanning the space.

Not finding what they felt, they turned to the princess.

“Lead us.”

She nodded and guided them deeper.

“Here,” she said softly. “This is where I feel him. Strongest.”

The elders stopped.

The space before them pulsed, warm, vast, expansive. The elder woman brought a trembling hand to her mouth.

“Oh my ... Do you feel this?”

The elder man fixed his gaze on, eyes narrowed in awe. “Yes.”
He shook his head, marvelling.

“Alright. Let’s continue.”

He exchanged a silent nod with the elder woman.

“Listen carefully,” the elder woman said. “Reach into the core of this place. The exact point where his presence is strongest. Find it ... and latch onto it with your presence.”

The princess nodded and tried.

She pushed hard, feeling strands of herself stretching outward. But it hurt. Her breathing turned tight and shallow.

“Don’t force it,” a calm voice instructed. “Let it flow naturally. Like when you gave him your energy.”

She inhaled, relaxed, and the strain vanished immediately. Her presence flowed outward gently, like water finding its path, and connected.

“I think ... I’ve latched on,” she said faintly.

“Good,” the elder man said. “Now, call him. Use a memory of his. Something recent. Something happy. It will be easier.”

She nodded, reached inside herself, and grabbed a memory.

But it slipped away instantly.

“It’s running from me,” she muttered in frustration. “I can’t hold it.”

“No.” The elder woman stepped forward. “You can. Don’t tear at it. Remember, this is your mind. Even his presence here is under your domain.”

The woman smiled gently.

“Don’t reach for the memory. Call it.”

The princess frowned. “Call it?”

“Yes,” the elder said. “Think of it. Want it. Let your presence wrap around it. It will answer.”

The princess nodded, took a breath, and called the memory to mind.

It responded instantly, drifting toward her like a summoned star.

She breathed in awe, “It’s happening. It’s responding.”

The elder woman smiled.

“Good. Now ... don’t pull it into yourself. Don’t internalise it.”

The princess blinked. “Then what?”

“Call it,” the elder said softly, “and project it, let us all see him.”

Not fully understanding what the elder woman meant, the princess tried anyway.

She called the memory and let it flow outward. The air before them shimmered.
An image began forming like a hollow screen of light, blurry at first ... then sharpening.

A river. A forest glowing with moonlight. Mist drifting across sweeping water.

Slowly, the memory began to play.

Now, it’s my turn.

A clear, confident voice echoed, and an image rose from the river.

At first, only a head broke the surface ... then broad shoulders ... a vast, bare chest...
And finally, his entire body rose and floated effortlessly above the river.

The elder woman whispered, “Oh my Lights...”

The princess gasped and observed the view.

In the mountain cave, the king, queen, and admiral watched the princess’s frozen body.
They could hear the voices inside her mind as though they were in the room.
