Chapter 12

The winds ruffled his fur as He lay on the cliff. The vast snowfields below stretched from the mountain out to the distant rivers and the woods beyond. The fresh scent of new snow lingered in the air.

He raised his head. The smell of budding flowers and spring showers was on the wind. Memories of an old oak tree surfaced as it towered over him. So vivid, yet there was no time He could recall where He had run beneath that tree or felt the fresh grass on his paws.

He rose, following that scent. Across the familiar fields He loped, always searching.

Cresting another hill, it came into view.

Just beyond the snowy woods, a towering oak, its branches wide and thick, spreading against the clear skies. Fields of green dotted with vibrant colors as flowers rose unrestrained. An island of color against the soft white of his territory.

Her scent was on the wind. Her elegant form padded lightly down the hill and crossed into the snow. Sleek, yet soft. Her tail wagged as She approached. She rubbed her snout under his neck, rubbing his scent on herself. She lay next to him, her tongue lapping at his snout now, cleaning him. He nipped the soft fur of her neck and cleaned her in return.

He opened his eyes. Her familiar weight warmed him. She lay on her side, one leg over his and her soft breasts pressed into his chest.

Her scent tickled his nose. She smelled sweet, like a ripe orange or peach.

He pulled her into his arms. Her leg wedged between his and He rested his cheek on her soft hair. She cuddled into him, sighing contently.

He breathed in deeply again. He followed his nose, bringing his head down to her long neck. He nibbled it. A little moan escaped her lips. It felt right. He nibbled more, applying just a little pressure on her soft skin.

She pulled in closer, her leg rubbing between his. She stretched her neck out, giving a little moan as He continued playing his teeth over her neck. His tongue darted out, licking her sweet skin. She shivered. She nuzzled his neck in return. She whimpered when He pulled back.

He lay face to face with her, her soft eyes watching his. He rubbed his nose to hers and placed a soft kiss on her lips. She curled into his chest, resting her head there, listening to his heart. Holding her close, they both drifted off to sleep again.

Another overcast day on campus, with the winter winds blowing harshly across the fields, but none of it touched Kal. As much as it blustered, it was no more than a pleasant breeze to him. While the hem of his jeans flapped in the wind, his legs felt no cold. The light jumper was all he needed as well, foregoing even a cap and letting his short brown hair move freely in the wind.

The snow had melted in places, leaving the stones of the stadium slick in spots. It had seen better days, falling into disrepair given the school’s abysmal football rankings. Even during Kal’s first year here, they hadn’t been any good. Still, people came to watch the games, turning the place into a raucous gathering every home game. Soon they’d be back, and this quiet place would be filled with screaming fans. Until then, it was a nice place to walk and clear his head.
