Chapter 16

By and by, Flower grew the babies within her belly until the time of their delivery arrived.
A sharp pain woke her from her slumber next to Rock.
“AAUUUGGGHHH!” she cried out and rolled onto her back clutching her belly.
Rock awoke instantly and moved next to her. “What is it honey?”
“I think my time to deliver is here.” she said, breathing through the sudden pain.
Rock didn’t ask questions and threw the door to their room open and was about to run to find one of their guards, but stopped. He went to his communications device and dialed the number for the midwife they had worked with over the span of Flower’s grossesse.
She took the phone call immediately and told Rock that she would be right over.
Flower walked the halls while waiting for the midwife to arrive. She was told all about having babies and what to expect. Walking the halls would help but to be ready for her water to break which would wet her clothes and make a small puddle on the floor. Rock was walking the halls with her, a towel thrown over his shoulder, as they waited.
The midwife arrived and ushered the couple into a spare room where a firm bed was set up with towels, a pot of water and several pans. The last thing waiting for them were baby blankets.
Flower’s sleeping clothes were removed from her body and she was laid on the firm bed and her legs opened wide. “Flower, I’m going to examine you to see how far along you are.” The midwife, Mildred, put blue rubber gloves on after washing her hands. She slipped two fingers into Flower and felt for the baby and what progress Flower was making.
“My goodness, you have moved along quite a lot. I dare say that you are ready to deliver right now.” Mildred said. “Rock, come here and take her leg while I take the other, I think your babies are ready to see the world.”
Flower was just breathing, taking in deep cleansing breaths as waves of contractions swept through her. It wasn’t too bad and she was able to breathe through them. Rock took one of her legs and pulled it up toward her shoulder while Milly took the other one. With Flower exposed and completely open and ready for delivery, Milly led her through breathing and pushing.
“WAAAAAAA” the first little baby cried once it emerged from Flower. It was followed quickly by the second little baby also crying as it emerged from Flower. Both had the goldest hair color which caught Rock and Milly off guard.
“Oh my.” She said, gazing at the babies before she had them secured, and their cords cut, she made sure the after birth was completely removed and accounted for. Nothing could be left behind inside of Flower and Milly made sure of it.
Both babies, one boy and one girl, were wrapped in blankets and placed on Flower’s chest. She laughed and cried and laughed some more as their little faces were seen for the first time. Rock was beside himself, so proud of his wife and proud to be the father of a boy and a girl. Not yet coming to grips or understanding their hair color.
Flower kissed and smelled both little babies as Milly finished her job and made sure Flower was fine. It was a picture perfect delivery and Flower did a great job.
The conversations were quiet as each was lost in their own thoughts. Milly helped both babies to latch onto Flower’s breast for their first meal. Both suckled quickly and easily as milk flowed from Flower’s breasts.
Once both babies were done, Milly was right there to help put them to bed in a bassinet near the bed so they could sleep off their first meal.
Flower also fell asleep holding Rock’s hand.
“Rock, do you have any questions?” Mildred asked the new dad.
“I don’t know what to ask. How is my wife? Why is their hair gold?”
“Rock, your wife is just fine and I have no idea why their hair color is gold.”
“Will I need to do anything special for her or for them?
