Chapter 11

Rock left the meeting and didn’t even stop when Flower reached out for him. He left.
Flower looked at her mom, and Rock’s mom, for something. Neither of them knew what to do so she simply ran after him.
She heard him walking toward the main gate of the castle and ran after him. The horses were out back, so he wasn’t going there, she reasoned. Where was he going? She just ran after him and finally caught up with him. He walked out the main gate and entered the city. She didn’t take his hand, but walked next to him. She noticed that several members of their security team were keeping pace with them, but hadn’t interfered with his movements.
He walked past shops, restaurants and even a kennel with puppies for adoption. He didn’t slow down and kept moving. He didn’t slow down until he arrived at the city fountain where people were gathered. He went to the fountain and looked down into the water. The bottom of the fountain was littered with coins. From the smallest copper coin to several gold coins and everything in between. He stood at the fountain then reached into his pocket pulled out a gold coin and tossed it into the water.
Flower finally broke her silence and took his hand in hers and moved in front of him. “Honey?”
Rock smiled, a pained smile, as a tear slid down his cheek.
“Whatever you are thinking, please tell me. We are a team in this.” she said, quietly for him to hear her and not announce to everyone around them.
He heaved a great sigh, then asked her. “What do I do now?”
She didn’t answer him, but let him talk at his own pace.
“I have no idea what I’m supposed to do now. Was sending people the right thing to do? How are we going to stop whatever is out there? If we can even find it? Will we find it in time to stop it? I just don’t know what to do and I hate that. I’ve been so right, I’ve known exactly what to do for like, forever. Now? I have no idea what to do. Worse yet? I don’t want anything to happen to you. Flo, I can’t lose you. I can’t even imagine my life without you in it. You’ve been with me since our childhood. How am I going to live for the rest of my days if you aren’t there with me? My best friend. My lover. My wife.” he said, then sat down hard on the edge of the fountain and let his hands hold his head as tears fell from his eyes and splashed on his shoes and on the stones around the fountain.
Flower moved to stand in front of him and held his head against her body. She held him tight as his fear and emotions moved through his body.
“Hey mister, are you ok?”
A little voice asked him as he held onto his wife as if his whole life depended on it.
He looked over to the little boy who was standing next to him holding a frozen milk treat, or at least what was left of it. Much of it was running down his little fingers and arm.
“I’m fine. Just afraid of stuff I guess.” Rock said to the little boy.
“Ya, I get it. I’ve been afraid many times before. My mom and dad used to check my closet for the boogie man. Now I’m not afraid and they don’t have to do that any more.”
“Cool. How did they make it go away?” Flower asked the little kid.
