He awoke in his laboratory, feeling no different than any other day.
He knew there were alterations, for he did not perceive the world as he had before. There was also knowledge in his mind that he had not had before.
Understanding as to why Thaum’rath wanted this Realm so much. So many of the others knew it too. He was under orders.
Ashcombe let out a laugh.
How simple a thing. This world was not simply food. A single dimension could act as bait for...
The name eluded him.
A High King?
The Second Theogony was the realization. It was true. There was another god, a Grecian one. He was ... He was doing something.
He was trying to battle the Higher Beings...
Not just one ... But the Nameless One.
That was what this was all about. There was a war incoming.
The Greatest One was allowing it to occur. A battle between nigh infinite forces would be brought to bear on both sides. This tiny speck of a world was just one in the balance.
However, the nobility of a true hero was in the bloodline of the Olympic King. For this reason, he would defend the concept of infinity? Or maybe ... Ashcombe could not know. There was too much being shoved into his heads.
There was knowledge he was not understanding, yet like a hive of bees sharing a thought, he could see and hear a magnitude of memories that he could not communicate how he would have preferred.
He was wandering in the desert of awakened truth with layers of clothes and without a drop of water.
No matter. He could bring this all to Silas, and they might learn together.
The realization came without fanfare because it could not arrive any other way, given the circumstances.
Silas opened a door to Ashcombe’s private laboratory. No longer was it the humble private room that hosted three men, and after what Silas saw, he doubted that it ever would be again.
The Gate was still there as they would allow no one else to see the monument to their madness unless they were beyond trusted.
On this day though, the room felt different. It did not carry the smell of disinfectant or alcohol. While he came for Theophilus, he wondered what else he might find.
When he looked about the room, he realized that there was a body unlike anything he had ever seen before.
The body was too tall to be called human, too deliberate to be called a beast. Pale flesh stretched over a frame that seemed both skeletal and overgrown. It was as though bone and corruption had formed a fused mating that could never be divorced from one another. This merging seemed to have agreed to share the same outline forever.
