Introduction

They say people become psychologists either to solve their own psychological problems or to learn how to manipulate others.

After graduating from high school, I decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology out of curiosity. I wanted to understand the inner workings of the human mind and uncover its secrets.

Perhaps I should have chosen a STEM field for better prospects in life. My dad divorced my mom and disappeared, leaving her to raise three kids on her own. And even though she got a big house in the divorce settlement, it was still hard for her to raise and care for us.

But I was idealistic, so I followed my passion. I imagined I would uncover special secrets that would let me see through every person, including myself.

Unfortunately, reality begged to differ. Our professors taught us boring theory, and just by looking at them, you could tell that they did not know any special secrets about themselves or others.

However, after graduation, I stumbled upon a world of opportunities to read and control people almost by accident.

It was an opportunity I couldn’t have dreamed of before. And yet, this phase of my life didn’t begin in an exciting way. On the contrary, it was the hardest period I had ever faced.
