Chapter 35
Coming of Age Sex Story: Chapter 35 - This is the second book in the Wrinkle in Time Trilogy. It is a stand-alone book with an all-new cast that embraces getting a second chance, a do-over. Fortunately, this time, Xander had a cheat: life experience. I’d become the old man who no longer gave a fuck about others’ opinions. The problem was that by the time I learned this, I died … or so I thought. I found myself thrown back in time to do it all over again. Could I get it right this time?

The spring semester had gone well for Xander. In track, he’d almost made it to state. In his best event, the 100 meters, he’d been the favorite in the preliminaries, but he’d had a brain fart and false-started twice, getting disqualified. He’d tried to anticipate the gun and guessed wrong.
Bloody Xander’s prediction about Peggy seemed to come true as soon as summer vacation started. She was gone most of the week, traveling with her softball team.
Since he had time on his hands, and one of his goals was to get Mike to go out for football in the fall, Xander decided to work on that. Mike chose not to go out in Xander’s last go-around because Bobby would start as quarterback. The following year, Mike had come back and started, but the year without football had hurt him. He’d lost a year of development, and the entire team suffered because the quarterback was crucial in the triple option.
Xander rode his bike down the mountain to visit him and spotted Mike push-mowing his yard. Mike lived down the road from Barb, who Peggy said had a big crush on him, so Xander rode past Mike’s house to stop in at Barb’s.
Xander knocked on the front door, and a younger version of Barb answered.
“Hello, Hadley,” Xander said, giving her his best smile.
“Hi, Xander. My mom says you’re shifty and shouldn’t be trusted. I don’t think she would like you showing up like this.”
Barb and Hadley’s mother was Judge Kathy Lee, who was a regular at his grandfather’s home poker games.
“Your mom’s a sore loser who’s terrible at cards, and she’s butt-hurt because she gives me all her money. I bet she’d be fine if I asked one of her daughters out and spent some of her money on them,” Xander said.
“You came to ask me out?” Hadley asked with a twinkle in her eye.
Xander gave her a closer look and asked, “Remind me, how old are you?”
“I’ll be a freshman this year.”
“No, I should probably do the right thing and ask your sister out. Is she home?” Xander asked.
“Yeah, she’s still in bed. Barb needs to get out and touch some grass, or she won’t get a tan this summer,” Hadley said.
“Why don’t I drag her outside?” Xander asked.
“Sure, why not? Go on up. It’s the second room on the right,” Hadley said, stepping back to let him in.
She walked into the kitchen, where Xander saw she had a bowl of cereal. He quietly crept up the stairs and cracked Barb’s bedroom door open. She had kicked her covers off and lay there with her arms and legs bent at weird angles, and a little drool hanging on the side of her wide-open mouth. Xander sat down on the edge of the bed and touched Barb’s nose.
She jerked awake and screamed, then she saw it was him.
“What the hell, Xander? How did you get in here?” she asked.
“Your sister let me in.”
“She’s dead,” Barb seethed. “Now, why are you bothering me?”
“Mike is mowing his lawn right now,” Xander said.
“So?”
“He’s all sweaty and has his shirt off.”
Barb’s eyes narrowed for a moment, and then she put it together.
“Peggy!”
Xander grinned.
“I may have to kill her, too. So, what do you get out of this?” Barb asked.
“Two things. First, my goal is for you and Mike to punch your V-cards this summer—”
“Now you’re about to die,” Barb warned.
“Second, I want to prevent Mike from making a big mistake, and you’re going to help me.”
“Uh, okay, I’m listening.”
“Mike doesn’t believe he can beat out Bobby Shelby, and I’m worried that he’ll bail on football this fall.”
“I doubt he can,” Barb agreed.
“Probably not, but Bobby could get hurt. Plus, if Mike works with the team this year, he’ll set himself up to start next year. Besides, he’s a good enough athlete to get playing time at another position,” Xander said.
“Like running back?” Barb asked with a smirk.
“Let’s not get crazy, but they do take me out occasionally,” Xander said.
“I know he’s talked about punting in college,” Barb said.
Xander hadn’t heard that, but it was probably the only way Mike would get playing time at the next level. He was a good high school athlete, but he didn’t have the size or speed to play at the next level. Punters didn’t have to be big guys or especially fast.
“I’m going to some football camps this summer; maybe he could go with me and learn to punt. You could help me convince him,” Xander said.
“Okay, I’m in. Go harass my sister while I get ready,” Barb said.
Xander jumped up and ran downstairs.
Barb came downstairs to find Xander with his shirt pulled up and Hadley running her hands over his abs. If Barb hadn’t been crushing on Mike, Xander would be at the top of her list of guys to date. She wanted to chuckle at her sister’s brazen act, but put on her stern sister look and shouted, “Hadley!”
The poor girl stumbled back and fell on her butt. Barb gave Xander a side-eye before she walked to the front door; Xander dutifully followed. Once they got outside, she asked, “Do I need to worry about something between you and Hadley?”
“In a couple of years, you might. She has your looks,” Xander said.
Xander saying stuff like that made girls’ knees go weak. She tried to ignore how he affected her and continued walking to Mike’s house. As they arrived, Mike came from the backyard to put the mower into the garage. She wondered why he didn’t just use one of the tractors to mow the lawn since Mike lived on a farm just outside of town.
Xander was right: Mike was in shorts and sans t-shirt, showing his slim, wiry build. He looked at the two of them and seemed puzzled.
“What are you two doing together?” Mike asked.
Xander shrugged.
“Peggy seems not to be around this summer, so I figured...”
Barb saw that Mike didn’t like the sound of that, which pleased her.
“ ... but I thought before I did anything, we should stop by and see if you were interested in asking Barb out,” Xander said.
Barb saw Mike freeze with a full-on body blush.
Xander waited patiently, but when Mike couldn’t seem to use his words, Xander said, “Okay, you can’t say I didn’t give you a shot...”
“Barb! Will you go out with me?!” Mike shouted.
She wanted to kick herself for not having her phone ready to record that moment. She momentarily debated making Mike work for it, but could see Xander had traumatized him enough.
“I’d love to,” Barb said.
Mike relaxed, looking happy. She wanted to wipe the self-satisfied look off Xander’s face, but he’d made this happen, and now she owed him big-time. At that moment, Barb might even offer up her little sister as payment—it would serve the brat right.
Now that Mike had asked her out, they just stared at each other.
“This is why Jesus wept,” Xander quipped. “Kiss each other already.”
Mike took a tentative step toward her. When she didn’t run, he closed the gap and leaned in for a kiss. It was probably the most awkward kiss in the history of kissing; their noses collided, and their mouths banged together. Barb worried she might’ve cut the inside of her mouth with her teeth.
“All right, try that again. This time, tilt your heads to the side and be gentle,” Xander coached.
Barb almost laughed when Mike looked determined and took a deep breath. The second effort was better. The third and fourth were much better.
“I think I’ll take off for now and leave you two to figure the rest out,” Xander said.
Mike grabbed Barb’s hand.
“My parents are at work.”
Xander talked Mike into going to Arkansas State’s Junior Day. They’d already offered Xander a scholarship, so he wanted to visit the school to check out the campus and football facilities. It was also a place where Mike could see himself playing.
Xander’s agent, Jeremy, had told him this was considered an unofficial visit, meaning the boys had to pay their way there. Schools only paid when the visit was official, and recruits only got a few of those. On an official visit, the school would put recruits up, pay for meals, etc., and better recruits could also be paid NIL just to visit. Jeremy said it could vary from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands.
