Chapter 30

Coming of Age Sex Story: Chapter 30 - This is the second book in the Wrinkle in Time Trilogy. It is a stand-alone book with an all-new cast that embraces getting a second chance, a do-over. Fortunately, this time, Xander had a cheat: life experience. I’d become the old man who no longer gave a fuck about others’ opinions. The problem was that by the time I learned this, I died … or so I thought. I found myself thrown back in time to do it all over again. Could I get it right this time?

By Sunday morning, Xander was over the Angelica situation. When he came down for breakfast, he found Izzy looking worried.

“What’s up?” Xander asked.

“Mom didn’t come home last night.”

“That dirty girl,” Xander quipped.

His sister glared at him, so he threw his hands up and said, “Or not.”

Izzy gave him a harrumph, turned her head away, and crossed her arms.

“I thought you liked Jack,” Xander said.

“I do ... It’s just...” Izzy said hesitantly.

“Are you afraid Jack won’t like us?” Xander asked.

“He likes you because you play football. Me...” she started, and trailed off, looking lost.

Xander sat down next to his sister, took her hand in his, and waited until she looked at him.

“Let me guess: you have voices in your head that say you’re not enough, that you’ll never measure up. Does that about sum it up?”

Izzy stared hard into his eyes to make sure he wasn’t making fun of her. He didn’t know what she saw, but tears began to form in her eyes, and Izzy looked away.

“I’m going to tell you a secret: I have the same feelings and thoughts,” Xander said quietly.

She turned back to him.

“You’ve got to be shitting me. Everything comes so easily for you.”

Xander let a small laugh escape his lips as he shook his head.

“Remember how I changed when we moved here from Dallas?”

She nodded slowly, skeptical of where this was going.

“I made a conscious decision to no longer allow my inner dialogue to rule my life. Can you imagine what I would be like if I hadn’t?” Xander asked.

Izzy fought it, but a tiny smile touched her eyes.

“You’d be a loser geek like me.”

“Exactly; I would’ve been a background cast member in my own life, a skinny bean pole with no real friends. But when I wanted to change, you were there to help me. Do you remember that?” Xander asked.

“All I did was tell you not to dress like a dork.”

“That, you did, but it was a bit more. I’m going to get serious for a moment. Is that okay?” Xander asked.

“If you must.”

“I’m worried about you.”

“Why?” Izzy asked.

“To me, it looks like you have the same problems I had. But it’s time you changed, too.”

“I’m not going to like this, am I?” Izzy asked.

“Are you going to hear me out or not?” Xander asked.

“Just tell me.”

“Okay, here goes,” Xander said, then took a deep breath and slowly exhaled before continuing. “I’m going to draw on how I felt at the time. If you told me I was strong, my mind said I was weak; if you told me you were there for me, my mind heard I wasn’t enough. And if you said you loved me, I didn’t feel a thing.

“It didn’t matter who told me those things because it wasn’t them; it was me who was full of self-doubt. I worried that everyone saw through me, and I was sure I didn’t measure up,” Xander said.

“But you’re popular now and...” Izzy began, but trailed off once again.

Xander let her puzzle it out.

“You did change,” she finally admitted.

“You know how I did it?” Xander asked.

She shook her head.

“I think I have an old soul inside me that tells me, ‘Fuck it!’ whenever I start to worry about what others think. Next time you’re worrying about something, tell yourself you don’t care what anyone else thinks. You’re a smart girl. I want you to decide what you want and then go for it.

“I know that sounds easy ... it’s not. That inner voice is convincing, and you’ve listened to it for years. I know mine is always nagging at me. It constantly reminds me that I could sleep in instead of riding my bike to school to lift, and that I’d have more fun playing video games than studying. I’m sure you can relate,” Xander said.

“Okay, so let’s say you’re right. How do I change?” Izzy asked.

Xander chuckled.

“That’s the hard part. First, you have to figure out what you want. Not just for today or this week, but long term. And the ‘want’ has to be big enough that it’s worth the effort.”

“So, it’s not like I want you to give me rides home from school instead of having to ride the bus; more like I want my own car,” Izzy said.

“That’s a good start. And if you don’t plan on driving my van when I go to college, what do you need to do to get the car you really want?” Xander asked.

Izzy bit her bottom lip.

“Cars are expensive,” Izzy said, then looked him in the eye. “Is that why you work so much?”

Xander touched the tip of his nose.

“I have plans for goals much bigger than just buying a car. Once I realized I didn’t want to wait until I was Mom and Dad’s age to do what I wanted, working for Grandpa Davidson won out over surfing the net.”

“So, what do you plan to do?” Izzy asked.

“No, that’s my goal, my plan. You need to find your own ‘want.’”

“I guess I understand.”

Xander sensed the self-doubt retaking her.

“Let me tell you something,” he said. “If you decide you don’t want to be this way anymore, I’ll help you. But I won’t do it for you, if that makes sense.”

“Because I wouldn’t follow through if you did,” Izzy said, getting it.

He nodded.

“Another thing I’ll tell you—and it will be hard for you to truly believe—is that I love you. You’re one of the strongest people I know. I will always be there if you fall, and I’ll be there to help you celebrate all of your victories,” Xander said.

“I think I believe that,” Izzy said.

Xander shook his head and said, “There’s no ‘think’ about it; simply believe it.”

“So, does that mean you’ll give me rides home from school?”

“I’ll do you one better: I’ll give your friends rides home, too.”

Izzy considered that for a moment and smiled.

“You’re an evil genius. Jennie and Susan will think I’m the GOAT if you give us rides. I can foresee them fighting over who gets to ride up front with you.”

“They’re never too young for me to start grooming them for my devious plans,” Xander said with a smirk.

Izzy pulled her hand out of his and headed up the stairs to give her friends the good news.

“Your being a perv won’t dampen my good mood,” she said and bounded up the stairs.

Xander had started making breakfast when he heard the garage door open. He poured his mom a cup of coffee and had it waiting for her when she came through the back door. Xander remembered the good old days and the walk of shame, so he was careful not to smirk at his mother.

She spotted the coffee and grabbed it before heading for the stairs.

“Breakfast will be ready in ten,” Xander called to her back. “Grab Izzy when you come back down, and you can tell us all about the fun you had last night.”

His mom froze and slowly turned her head to give him her death glower. Xander raised an eyebrow in response. She might have actually growled at him before turning to stomp the rest of the way up the stairs. He wondered whether Izzy had learned that move or if it was genetic.

When Xander arrived to lift on Monday morning, he saw Coach Hammer in his office, talking to someone in a University of Missouri jacket. Waiting outside the office was a man wearing a University of Kentucky blazer.

Since Xander had been named to the All-State team, this had become a regular thing: recruiters stopping by to get game film and talk to his head coach. NIL opportunities had also been rolling in, though to Xander, it felt wrong to be paid for not much work. In general, he would be asked to do some charity event or show up at a car dealership for a few hours. He was now making more than his mom and dad combined for that ‘work.’

Jeremy, his NIL agent, tried to be low-key about it because he knew he was overcharging Xander; Xander was making him more than some of his college athletes. Jeremy wanted Xander to talk to the agent’s financial guy to help him grow the money he was making. Xander had no doubt Jeremy would receive a referral fee for the introduction.

When Xander entered the weight room, the usual suspects were there. Brad spotted him and promptly got up and left.

“What’s his malfunction?” Xander asked Tommy.

“He is all delulu about snagging Angelica out from under you. I told him that fam doesn’t do that to one another,” Tommy said.

“Welp, I guess he did. Angelica and I are no more.”

“Dude, sorry about that.”

“No worries; we had reached our ‘use by’ date, and it was time,” Xander said to show he had no hard feelings. “Should I go find the dumbass?”
