Carrie’s interview by Marjorie addressing the questions and rumors about Shane Destin’s behavior on the Earth Abides movie set aired on Wednesday evening on WDC-TV. Marjorie’s evening show was nationally syndicated, so the show appeared in prime time on 223 affiliates.
The living room in our rental apartment in Culver City had ten of us watching the news show. Misty estimated that somewhat in the vicinity of 20 million people were likely watching the interview. Those present were Carrie, Ellen, Beth, Bonnie, Jerry, Paul, Misty, Curtis, Diana, and me.
Marjorie and the other editors had done an excellent job editing two hours of interviewing down to twenty-four minutes. The show seemed crisp and precise in both the asking and responding to questions.
By the time the interview segment ended, what with all the dancing and waffling the Carrie had to do to keep the network censors happy, everyone knew that Shane had tried to get his cock inside Carrie during the filming of a nude love scene, had tried really hard, but failed due to the ‘resistance efforts’ that she mounted. Carrie said that she felt sorry that the filming ‘situation’ presented a major problem for the studio, to the extent that they decided to keep her in the movie and ‘invite’ Shane to move on to other films.
Sony had openly let it be known that he’d been ‘disinvited to continue with movie regarding the situation that arose with the Princess’, atop a growing list of other complaints about his behavior and statements about women’. Ellen had described him as a male chauvinist pig, and I guess Carrie discovered that as well as the right people at the studio.
Carrie stated that she remained committed to the movie Earth Abides, and was glad that she’d get to finish the film, which was going to be a film that everyone should see. She got a plug in for the film and the great crew helping her be a success as a first-time movie actress.
Carrie also got to briefly state some of her concerns about the environment, climate change, preparations for pandemics, and a few other items on her list of public concerns. On that note, the interview ended. We all sat back and applauded Carrie, who blushed and waved off the attention.
I sent Marjorie a text, knowing that she was likely at the station watching the pre-filmed show broadcast, and checking on what social media was saying about it. I praised what she’d done with the interview and its editing, and also sent my love to her. I got a quick [heart] with the text ’More later’. I expected she was very busy right that instant.
The group of us had a quick chat about the broadcast and speculated about any fallout that might occur.
During the watch of the Page Three news show, a number of pairings had been made around the apartment’s living room: Carrie and Misty had snuggled into Curtis; Jerry had Beth in his lap; Paul was with Ellen; and I was with Diana and Bonnie. The warning from Emma was that the King and Queen were ‘royally’ pissed, but Emma had no idea what they planned to do, if anything.
The conversational revelations of Princess Caroline’s ‘Open Marriage’ and that she’d had intercourse outside of her ‘Windsor-approved’ threesome – with Shane Destin and apparently with others – did not sit well with the Palace. On the other hand, the royals in London were glad that she was alright and that nothing truly awful had happened to her by ‘that other actor’.
Emma reported later in a long text message that she had an opportunity to discuss with their parents the peer pressure and widespread ‘openness’ of relationships in Hollywood, that her sister had done nothing other than blend in with the ‘crowd’, and that the Triad she’d formed with Marjorie and me was strong and in place.
By lunch time, Misty had a gauge on how the country had received the short interview. The opinions seemed to run about three-quarters giving full backing to the ‘American Princess’, and one-quarter negatively shocked over the whole situation. The measurements didn’t compare the same things, Misty noted. She felt the numbers were skewed slightly in the negative because people didn’t want to admit they were as liberal and lenient as a positive result would imply.
The evangelicals were again against anything they hadn’t thought of first. People that were fans of Shane Destin thought that she threw him under the bus. The few swingers she’d contacted at that point applauded every word from Carrie’s mouth.
Misty and Paul also got feedback from Sony including a couple of the major producers, and they were pleased with the interview and the plugs for the forthcoming movie. There were no negative comments they had to offer other than concern about the production schedule for the movie.
Paul and Misty led us to another Hollywood party on Saturday evening that was more tempered and put more emphasis on creating new friendships, versus zipless fucks.
