With the video of the whole scene and Carrie’s rant gone viral, what was left was the interpretation of it and the evaluation of the aftermath.
The entertainment tabloids and scandal sheets had a field day with the ‘attempted rape’ by Shane Destin. The headlines probably helped sell the various issues, all with a lurid photo of some kind:

In another tabloid, A fake medical report from a local hospital was published detailing the damage to Shane’s cock and scrotum. It also stated that she knocked several teeth out. As far as any of us knew, he never had a need for medical treatment and didn’t lose any teeth. The report was pure fabrication.
The accounts of the incident varied from somewhat close to correct to an out-and-out lie and made-up story. Totally false.
Other pictures appeared from different viewpoints showing Carrie’s forceful slap of Shane’s face and of her kick to his groin. They were photoshopped using other pictures of both Carrie and Shane, on bodies of other people in ninja outfits doing martial arts. Totally false.
Our apartment got staked out by the paparazzi in hopes of a picture or interview. Around the clock there were about twenty or thirty reporters there hoping for some kind of break. Carrie teased them all one afternoon and went onto our fourth-floor outdoor balcony and waved at all of them. Even inside I could hear all the camera shutters clicking. They were also yelling up questions by the dozens, most rather stupid.
Several things happened to move things forward in a more respectful and professional manner.
First, Misty crafted a press release to be ‘officially’ issued by Caroline Westerly commenting on the incident and the media coverage of the event.
Second, Marjorie became willingly involved with Misty and Carrie to orchestrate an interview that would appear on television on her evening show called Page Three – special interest stories that were usually not quite top news items, but deserving of some media attention.
Marjorie had watched the video that went viral and read most of the tabloid articles. She drew up a list of the items that had to be discussed in the interview and ran it by Carrie and me.
1. What actually happened while the love scene was being filmed? 2. Shane indicated that they’d had ‘fucked last Saturday’; what happened and why? 3. Was Shane that bad a lover, as her derogatory remarks indicated? 4. How did she feel about Shane’s dismissal from the movie? 5. Had she considered quitting the movie due to the event?
Paul, Misty, Marjorie, Emma – representing the royal family, Carrie, Jerry, and I had a two-hour Zoom call on Saturday morning. The questions were the right ones to cover in order to calm the waters, but most of the responses, if answered honestly, would be highly controversial.
Carrie felt she could talk in veiled terms about what happened on the set, discussing that they’d been nude for the final part of the scene, that Shane had assumed they could go ‘all the way’, which was not on her mind at all; and that, yes, they had engaged in a previous encounter, which was her controversial way of getting used to working with an ‘A’-list movie star knowing that scene was coming up for filming soon. Carrie planned to comment that our marriage was already based on consensual non-monogamy, and that I was aware of her plan for that Saturday at a party we’d been attending where Shane was going to be present.
Marjorie and Carrie would remind the viewing audience that they were in a serious threesome with me, and that we remained committed and happy with our bonds and boundaries.
Carrie would slightly soften her response about Shane’s skills as a lover, but leave some doubt about whether he needed to learn more about pleasing a woman. She had never thought of quitting the movie. Professionals often have to do some distasteful things in their jobs, and she wanted to become a professional actress, as well as continue her role in investigative reporting that she’d started with WDC-TV.
Marjorie flew out to L.A. the following week to do the interview. In hindsight, I wonder how she managed to keep the paparazzi at bay so long. No other scandals appeared, so they kept milking this one.
Carrie got permission to do the interview on one of the sets for Earth Abides, promising that during the interview she’d give off several plugs about the movie and mention how people will love it, especially with her new co-star, Ethan Vinson – also a well-known actor.
Just for fun, as we’d all agreed, she wore the upside-down pineapple during the videoing of the interview. It was subtle, and almost impossible to really verify what it was, but we knew. We also figured that more than a few people would figure it out past the sparkling diamonds, and possibly write a piece of fan mail or hate mail. We were more than curious about what the fallout would be.
Marjorie stayed over, of course, and we had a joyful reunion with the third person in our triad. She begged to go to a Hollywood party, after hearing an even more detailed description of what had gone on about two weeks earlier.
Marjorie made sure the video of the interview got back to her team at WDC-TV for editing. She stayed through the weekend and took the Sunday night red eye back to D.C.
The party our group attended was at Sherry Dix’s home in Bel Air on Saturday night.
